Solid three star place. Owned and operated by locals and it feels like eating at someone’s home. They serve up delicious veggies and the prices are reasonable. Now with this being the south I must warn you who haven’t experienced life here below the mason Dixon line, service is slow and steady. It’s good eating. Enjoy.

A hidden gem! This is the closest I’ve had to my Grandmothers cooking since she left this earth! If you love grandmothers country cooking or soul food you will be hard pressed to find any better! Outstanding!

Minnie Lee’s is no longer on 2nd Ave in Decatur. Moved out to Hwy 67 in Priceville. But very good and worth a stop if you are out that way

Fresh vegetables not canned. Favorite is their corn. Friendly staff. Love their salmon patties that they have on Wednesdays.

This place is starting to feel like home, as it is hard to pass by here without wanting to stop in for a meal! We have eaten here four or five times in the last year or so, since they moved out here. This location is at the Priceville exit on I-65. The diner is just a couple blocks west of the interstate, on Alabama hwy 67. Serving is cafeteria-style. My wife and I like to get a meat and two vegetables, and an empty plate to split this. This way we are not overstuffed, and can still contemplate dessert. If you do split a meal, be sure the checkout lady understands this so she doesn’t accidentally charge it as two meals. The facility here is nothing special, but the food is very good. I give them a three and a half overall.

It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t impressive either. I expected a little more«slap yo momma» flavor from a soul food joint. FYI until Unilocal changes the address they’re not on 2nd in downtown Decatur anymore. They’ve moved near I-65 in Priceville between the BBQ restaurant and Dairy Queen on Point Mallard Pkwy. It’s not clear what to do when you come in. There appears to be a counter with the register that you order at but what you’re really supposed to do is go through the doorway on the far left end and there you’ll find a small hot bar where they will serve you cafeteria style. I got the vegetable plate with field peas, mashed potatoes, corn, cabbage, and cornbread. –The field peas didn’t offer the seasoning or tenderness that I would think real soul food peas would have. These were pretty bland and still firm. –The mashed potatoes were typical cafeteria style, which I like, but the gravy was really good. Since it came out of the tray with the hamburger steaks it had a little more flavor than your typical cafeteria style gravy. –The corn was ok with just a hint of butter flavor. –The cabbage was perfectly tender and I could tell it was cooked with some ham. Flavor still wasn’t outstanding though. –The cornbread was dense and dry. –Sweet tea was as good as any southern sweet tea should be. The strangest part is that the forks, napkins, and all the condiments are in that back room with the hot bar and that is where you’re supposed to stop before or after you get your food to get your silverware and/or add condiments to your dishes. The condiments I saw were some onions cut up in a bowl and a bunch of other jars and bottles of stuff on a shelf. My 4 veggies with sweet tea was a little over $ 8. It was enough food to satisfy me but not to feel stuffed. I could take it or leave it. Maybe if you’ve never had really good down-home cooking you’d end your meal with high praises but I’ve had much better ‘soul food’.

This is the best place for home cooking in the area. I had meatloaf, black-eyed peas, and corn and it was one of the best lunches I’ve ever had.

If you want real good home cooking, this is the place to go! Get the kind of food your grandmother makes. I plan to eat here every time I’m in Decatur.
