John’s Stereo

Took a while to get my radio installed but it looks flawless and sounds great since we also swapped out my front speakers. The price was reasonable and I was informed throughout the whole process. It’s a very urban location and there’s really no seating while you wait but I’m cool with my system.

Stumbled across this business via Google and so glad I did. I went to best buy to get my speakers replaced on a hummer I just bought and of course the price was outrageous. So I found this place & Jon (Jonboi) installed all new JVC speakers for a fraction of the cost. He was quick and did such a good job. He kept asking me if I would like to go inside where the a/​c was I told him no I like looking to see how this stuff is done. The speakers he suggested I get sounds great. I am completely satisfied with what he did. Also while I was there I got my windows tinted so I killed two birds with one stone #Happy. Don’t be fooled by the look of the place! The quality is awesome. I will be a returning customer.

I was hopeful that John’s Stereo could help me with what I thought was a routine installation. I found them on Unilocal,like I always do, and they were fairly close to my house and had three five-​star ratings, so I figured I would give a local business my business and instead they gave me the business.
My vehicle already had a great after-​market system in it and all I needed John’s Stereo to do was replace the head unit with a new Pioneer double-​din unit. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the «cage» that holds a double-​din unit and fits my car, but the installer said he thought he could make it work… wrong. I should have been suspicious just looking at the surroundings. There is garbage and old tires strewn about the rear of the shop. Nevertheless, I talked myself into letting them do the install by thinking «they’re just connecting the wires. How hard could that be?»
I was told to come back in an hour and agreed to an install price. Cash is preferred. Another red flag that I didn’t see waving at me.
I call back an hour and a half later and the installer tells me it’s not perfect, but he’s got it working. I return. SPOILER ALERT, it’s not perfect or even close to perfect and to use the term «working» is laughable.
When I return, I am dismayed to see the head unit is in the dash, but it is not secured in place. In fact, it’s just resting there. The installer then pulls the dash housing off to show me why things aren’t working. 1. He can’t get the back up camera to work like it did with the old stereo and suggests it isn’t compatible with the head unit. 2. Can’t mount it and suggests «just go to Toyota and let them figure it out. 3. The parking brake bypass doesn’t work, so I can’t view video while the vehicle is in motion, but wait, there’s more… I also can’t view video with the parking brake on either! He suggests it the relay and goes and gets another relay, plugs it in and it shows the video — nice! NOT, it stopped working after I turned the vehicle off after I got home.
I could keep going, but to make a long review shorter, I will digress. A little. Basically, these folks don’t have sufficient installation acumen necessary to do a professional job. To qualify that statement I offer the following: I did some research, the newer Pioneer units do not work with a relay switch on the parking brake lead, but there’s an $ 8 piece that does the same thing — fixed it myself. The back-​up camera was plugged into the AV input instead of the «back-​up camera» input — fixed it myself. The missing cage from my original stock radio is no longer available, but I was able to use some radio straps to secure it into place. Finally, there were wires, wire clippings, and the like strewn throughout my vehicle when I picked it up — which a clipping or two is one thing, but it was like the installer intentionally dropped everything in my car as opposed to the litter-​filled yard it was in.
If you’re looking for professional installation, John’s will probably disappoint you as they did me.
