Duck’s Kitchen

Took advantage of the ScoutMob deal and was highly disappointed. We waited over an hour to be served our appetizer and then another 30 minutes for the main course. And after asking for silverware twice the table next to us gave us an extra set they had. The workers acted like they were over busy with only about ten tables of seated people. It was a question if they had enough clean glasses to serve us water. My basil was ripped up and horribly bruised on the tiny over priced pizza. And the overall quality of the food was lacking. They up charged you for using ScoutMob with a service fee even though we paid online already. Would never go back here.

Formerly Duck’s Cosmic Kitchen — the name changed in 2013, according to Eater Atlanta. I haven’t been here in a long while, which is strange because I thought the place was pretty fabulous when it opened in 2005. But I do enjoy their donuts regularly at Dancing Goats.
Today I decided to break my long Duck drought and headed over for lunch. A great day to eat outside in their courtyard. At first, I had to figure out where the door was. Years ago, you ordered from the trailer-​like building where the bakery/​kitchen is and took your food either to an outside seat or inside a dining room located in the building to the back right. They now have a proper restaurant space and that dining room is some other business.
The James Calvin sandwich is as delicious as I remembered. Fall apart pot roast with great walnut bread. The potato salad is pretty good, too. And the lemonade is perfect for a fairly warm June day.
Service is as friendly and unpretentious as always. Duck’s reminds me of the places you find in Grass Valley, California, if you’ve ever been there. Nice people with more than a little ’60’s counter-​culture influence.

Duck’s Cosmic Kitchen is nothing short of amazing. Seriously. Make a Friday night reservation and you will not be sorry.
On Friday night the interior is turned into a romantic setting with candlelight ambiance and live music reminiscent of a charming Italian café in the film ______(insert romance movie here).
I ordered the special, which was a white wine braised chicken with carrots and potatoes. It was delicious. My husband ordered a pork dish, which he loved. We were thoroughly impressed with the attention to detail and the service.
We will most certainly return.

One of my favorite places. The sweet atmosphere, delicious food, friendly staff, ample parking… you get the idea. Best yogurt, fruit and granola bowl — ever! Also love their Duck’s salad and top it with a house-​made veggie burger.

Great place to have a brunch small but nice. I had the chicken and biscuits with a bloody orange juice it was amazing. Everything about this place is cute and cozy. Professional staff and great desserts.

I really enjoyed this place. It was nice to sit outside and enjoy the day. I had the cured salmon sandwich and it was delicious! They told me that they cure their own salmon. It’s the nice little touches to the food here that makes it special. Yum. I look forward to returning.

If you are gluten-​free the options here are amazing. I have ordered several of the sandwiches and pizzas gluten-​free, and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. It is such a treat to be able to eat those things when you go out and know that you will feel well afterward. Also, the staff has always been incredibly friendly and welcoming.

Stopped here on Saturday for brunch. Stellar staff, and delicious food. Being greeted with bright smiles really made me feel at home.

Ever since my first visit I’ve been hooked! Every time I’m in downtown decatur I have to stop by. The staff is super sweet & the food is phenomenal! They are very health conscious and the food still tastes delicious. If you don’t get anything else off the menu, you have to treat yourself to a baked donut. It will change your life! I said so!!!

Ate here the other day. Courtyard is very pleasant on a nice day and the food was really quite good. Wild Shrimp Cakes were excellent. In fact, we should have probably just ordered a few appetizers after seeing how fresh and delicious the shrimp cakes were, but the sandwiches were solid. Potato salad is also just as described by other reviewers-​yum!

I really like their specials. They are unique and the food fits really well together. Everything on theirs menu taste fresh and besides the food being good, the service is always great. Its such a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that you actually take the time to sit down and eat.

This place is so cute! Stumbled upon it for a work lunch, asked the nice folks outside how it was and they had nothing but awesome things to say, so we went for it.
Place is super small maybe 8 tables at most, was a bit crowded but that’s a good thing. If that many others are enjoying its bound to be good. We sat at the bar.
They have daily specials, unfortunately they were all sold out of the Dover sole that day.
So I went for the house cured salmon sandwich with golden split pea soup as my side.
Soup was awesome. Definitely had some pork flavor. But heartier than normal pea soup.
The salmon: the bread was amazing! And the salmon literally tasted like sushi. The capers added that saltine

Fantastic lunch spot– cute little courtyard for quiet outdoor seating, charming inside seating as well. We ordered the chicken salad (dates and golden raisins gave it a slightly sweet flavor profile) and the avocado/​bacon/​tomato/​pesto sandwich on a toasted crossaint. It was as amazing as it sounds.
Got 2 coconut/​oatmeal/​choc chip cookies to go.
Overall a great little find!

Duck’s is SO DELICIOUS it puts my diet in jeopardy!

FRESH, DELICIOUS FOOD and the service is ⁵⁄₅; some of the waitresses have better communication skills than high-​paid project managers in the corporate world.
You can bring your dog and sit outside and they will give you a bowl of water for your pup!
I’m getting hungry just writing this review… time for some lunch :)

A very hidden and serene place for a nice quiet breakfast with your loved ones.
The outdoor area welcomes dogs. Next time will try to bring big Simba along.
We sat and ordered our coffee with our friendly and fun-​loving server. She made our breakfast more enjoyable.
I had the Table Sandwich while my husband had the Munch Brunch. Both were good. As usual, only lately, half of my order had to go home with me in a box.
We shall definitely come back again. This place was very comfortable and inviting. Good place to relax.

One of my favorite gourmet restaurants. The special attention they put to flavors is refreshing and original.
I have a weakness for delicious sweets and I blame this joint for the extra pounds I’ve put on. ;0)

This is one of those tough reviews to write, y’all. Do I gush about Duck’s and tell the truth about how I feel, risking that a line will snake out the door on Saturday morn, uh, noons? Or do I undersell them so that I can keep them to myself but risk making Duck sad? Man I can’t do that, what if it makes my food sad too? Not worth it.
Duck’s is downstairs from my work, or else I would have never known about them. One morning I was all, «Hmm the coffee at my job sucks balls, I wonder if there is a place that has actual good-​tasting coffee instead», and lo and behold, Duck’s was downstairs serving up some Batdorf & Bronson brew! They make the BEST MOCHA EVER because they actually melt dark chocolate into the damn thing. The bad news is that means it can’t be made iced, but the good news is that their iced vanilla lattes are super delicious too!
All their delectable breads are baked on site, and not a one of them is undelicious. The kalamata loaf is probably my fave, but walnut leek is good, and the home-​made bagels are to die for. Seriously, I’m probably dead right now because this morning I ate a bacon, egg, and herbed goat cheese (also mixed up in-​house) bagel sandwich. It was too good, you guys. Too. Damn. Good.
Saturday Specials are why I want to live to see another day, though. One weekend it was a croissant with tomato, basil, proscuitto, and egg, and it was ZOMGSOGOOD. When they do anything with gravy, you need to show up. It’s so peppery and delicious, I just pour it all over my potatoes and try not to propose to the closest employee.
Wait also they bake desserts too! I had a slice of pumpkin cheesecake last week that was the best I’ve ever had! And the cinnamon donuts are cute and tasty and since they’re baked (not fried!) they’re basically health food. True story.
My only complaint is that Duck’s is kinda pricey for a breakfast joint. I ain’t even mad at them though, because quality costs money and I’m not about to make my own bagel sandwich before work. Also I think everything costs too much, as evidenced by every review I write, so I have to maintain some consistency.

Consistently delicious and fresh! Our office is nearby and every day at least one office mate is getting lunch there. My favorite is the pork and the butternut squash soup (a special). The office mates go nuts over the tomato soup and grilled cheese combo. Husband loves the James Calvin, kid loves the pizza.
The owners are ex band mates and you get that family feel of warm sarcastic cracks and general silliness. Love the staff– Art and Leah– you are my favorites.

The world’s tiniest restaurant. The kitchen isn’t even in the same building, and that makes me wonder what the staff has to go through on rainy days. :/​Everything else is great, though, so I’m just not going to think about it.
I was having a massive craving for a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup… when I got in, and the waitress told me that the soup of the day was a tomato bisque, I knew immediately that I would be getting the grilled cheese. With bacon. Duh. And soup.
What I was greeted with about 15 minutes later (how long does it take to make grilled cheese and fry up some bacon on a slow day at 3pm?), was the world’s smallest grilled cheese sandwich. I was very underwhelmed at the sight of it, and couldn’t believe I was paying 7.50 for that. Once I got past my initial shock, and took my first bite, I about rolled on the floor with happiness. It was SO GOOD. Crisp and buttery and cheesy and golden and delicious. When dipped in the yummy tomato bisque, I was basically the happiest camper in the world and forgot how much would be coming out of my sparkly panda wallet.
They serve Reed’s ginger beer here, which makes me super happy! Nothing I like better than Jamaican-​style ginger beer in a glass bottle… nice and spicy.
I happened to notice a dessert case while I was finishing my lunch. Everyone raves about the doughnut, but I can’t do super heavy sweets these days, so I opted for the key lime pie. MOTHER. It was so incredibly scrumptious. The perfect end to a really great, simple, light lunch.
Yes, it’s a little pricey. Yes, it’s a little hard to find (it’s behind some other businesses, and you have to make sure to go to the restaurant side and not the kitchen side). My waitress started off a little nonchalant, but she seemed to warm up a little after a bit. But damned if that wasn’t the best grilled cheese sandwich I’ve had since Noon closed. (I still miss you, Noon…)
For the sheer and utter deliciousness, I say eff the downsides and just give it a shot.
