The staff here is so awesome and very bright and great at fixing bikes. They are also generous and community-​minded. David helped me fix a serious problem today that I did not think could be solved and I am forever grateful! Fair prices and great stuff in the store. HIGHLY recommended.

Mark is wonderful and super helpful with whatever your bike needs are.
He also has a really impressive memory and recalls your name and details you have told him in the past. He even remembers our little dogs name (who we have brought into the store several times).
My husband and I are new to Atlanta and are SO glad we found Decatur Bikes. Since moving here 3 months ago we have purchased 2 bikes (one hybrid, one Public) along with many accessories for both bicycles.
So glad to have a small, neighborhood bike shop and Im looking forward to attending one of their weekend rides to Stone Mountain soon.

These guys were friendly and knowledgeable which saved me TIME and a a little dough as well. Thanks guys. I’m riding nice now.

I needed a maintenance tune-​up on my bike and rode down there one day to see if I could drop it off for a few days to bring it back up to a reasonable condition. Not only did they help me there on the spot, they also gave me a good deal on the tune-​up that they did while I waited for a few minutes. They were friendly and thorough and made me feel pleased that I walked through their doors. I will definitely return here for my biking needs.

This is a great shop. I rode from our place in Candler through Decatur for a Friday evening ride and decided to stop in to look for a few things. Needed a new pair of riding gloves and was looking for a mount for my phone.
John was a really helpful guy. He showed me around and even told me they could order a specific mount I was looking for. That’s always a plus on the service side.
I picked out a good pair of gloves and, while paying, asked if I could fill up my water bottle. They were totally cool and said «Hell yeah, man. Come on back.» That’s awesome. I felt right at home with these guys. We cut it up and chatted about riding for a bit and such. Really cool guys own this place and work here. Definitely a plus when you can feel like a friend and not just a customer.
Really pleased with Decatur Bikes and I’m glad that I made it in. They just made a frequent customer out of me.

Nice to see a bike shop in downtown Decatur [I haven’t been in Houndstooth Road yet]. Anyway the people at Decatur Bikes were very friendly and definitely no attitudes like in some shops (not mentioning any names). Overall, a positive experience and I now know there’s Customer parking in the back lot (instead of the meters on the street).

Love Decatur bikes. Very responsive staff. Bought a commercial bike stand a few months ago, too heavy for home delivery, got great advice. Today I had a persistent flat problem on rear wheel — fix it and it slowly flats again. Brought it in to buy new tubes and owner Dave found the little shard of glass in the tire that caused the problem.

For someone new to the cycling world, this was a great first experience. The staff was so helpful walking me through different safety tips and helpful hints about the bike itself. I just really appreciate quality customer service. I will be a return customer!

These guys are fantastic! I called them up first to ask for help in figuring out what I needed to do to convert my old tri shoes, so that I could start wearing them to indoor Spin classes.
You can tell a lot about a business by their phone manner, and I was pleasantly surprised at how helpful and patient they were with my seemingly «noob» question. After letting me know what I needed — a certain type of cleat — they even promised to set the product aside for me.
… When I came in, they were incredibly friendly, helped me put the new cleats on my shoes, and told me if they needed any adjusting, to bring them back in.
*I did use the Check In offer for a free water bottle. They were out of their regular bottles, so hooked me up with a little fancier one instead. Very cool, guys!

My girlfriend has a Raleigh M60 mountain bike but now mostly rides on the street. So we needed to get her some more appropriate tires than the super knobby 2 inchers that it came with. We looked on-​line to get an idea of what was out there and the prices and looked at cheapo department store offerings (e.g.
) also. Bottom line was that I felt better about being able to ask a couple of questions of someone that knew what they were doing before jumping into this task. I went to their shop on a busy Saturday afternoon recently. (Note: that parking is tricky near downtown Decatur where they are.) After waiting for a few minutes for one of the two guys to help other people in the shop I was able to look at a couple of different tire options and ask questions so I felt more confidence in being able to do it right. I ended up needing to buy tubes also (went from 2.10″ to 1.25″ tires) which I wouldn’t have known without talking with someone. All in price was about $ 75 and the bike is way faster. They seemed to have a great selection and very helpful. I would definitely recommend them for your bicycling needs.

I recently bought a used bike off of Craig’s list and had a couple issues on my first ride. I took it into Decatur Bikes to have it repaired and tuned up. The initial guy that helped me was very helpful and friendly but apparently I had an interesting problem so he called in the expert from the back room. After a few seconds he identified that had apparently had been built with an array of components that didn’t work well with the frame and said it might be hopeless. Luckily, between the two of them, they came up with a creative solution and my bike is now running perfectly and they salvaged my ignorant online purchase. Much thanks to them and you’ve earned a lifetime customer!

I’m the guy in the previous review who had the four flat tires. Contrary to how that review might read, I don’t look at this as some failing of Decatur Bikes, but instead just one of those things. I wound up with my first flat simply out riding and picked up something in my tire that gave me a puncture flat. The next week I had the same thing happen, but in a different area on the same tire. Just bad luck. The third flat was my own fault. While changing to my spare tube I didn’t inflate it enough before putting it on so it wasn’t set properly on the rim and I got a pinch flat. The fourth was an unrelated pinch flat I got later that week.
I know the guys at Decatur Bikes well enough I stopped in to gripe about my bad luck and joke about it with them. I’ve ridden long enough I was due for a small string of flats, especially riding on Atlanta city streets, and have a good relationship with the guys at my friendly neighborhood bike shop so I could drop by and laugh a bit with them about it.
I’ve taken my current bike to Decatur Bikes since last August and have been very happy with the shop. Dave, the owner, fit my new bike for me. I picked up a new pair of shoes from him since I’m now riding Shimano SPD clipless pedals and needed a pair of shoes that accept the correct cleat. He was also kind enough to spend a bit of time servicing an old off-​brand but perfectly usable trainer.
Since then I’ve had my bike tuned (which took about five days), bought jerseys, tubes, and tires, and gotten to know the staff at Decatur Bikes. I run a 1998 Campy Veloce gruppo, which does have some quirks compared to current Shimano and SRAM groups, and Mark and Joey have been very helpful with this gruppo. Tim, Diego, and Chatham have also provided excellent service over the past year.
I like having a quality bike shop an easy ride from the house. Give them a try.

I’m picky about bike shops. With more than 20 years as a serious rider, a yard shed just for housing all my bikes, and a few years as a shop employee during college, I have standards that most mammals would find abnormal. The main reason is that even if you’re pretty handy with a wrench, you still need a shop to work with if you ride with any kind of frequency.
Test 1 — Poor haters. When I’m feeling out a shop, I hang out, look at all the small shiny things for a long time, and then only buy inner tubes. This test to see if they can tolerate poor bastards like myself gives insight as to whether they’re in business to make money or to make bikes. Why shops think they can make money on an industry mostly funded by poor schmucks who can’t afford cars, I don’t know, but I digress. Anyway, passed with flying colors.
Test 2 — If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. If I get a good vibe on the poor kid test. I go back when it’s busy with a part/​bike problem that’s minor or non existent — ex: brake adjustment or dirty used chain ring with lots of life left in it. Guy working the sales floor looked at my old part and said he was pretty sure it was trash, but that a mechanic should have a look anyway. Mechanic — young tall kid — asked me a few questions about how I would be using it, even though they were really busy, then said it was dirty but had life left in it. Big time pass again.
Test 3 — Big fix. Haven’t done this one yet, but will soon. Will update.

I was so excited when they FINALLY opened a bike store in downtown Decatur. I usually go to Bicycle South (which is a little out of my way), so I was eager to try Decatur Bikes out.
But…just like MK… I had a Groupon for the 37.00 tune-​up. My hybrid has been in the garage for 2 months so it had spider webs, rust, and pollen. I pumped the tires and set off for Decatur Bikes.
It was one youngish guy with blonde hair that «helped» me get in the system for the tune-​up. While I stood there, he spun the wheels and checked the gears on my bike… and then he told me it would be 1-​week.
‘Lo and behold, 1-​week later, I go to pick up my bike. Umm… rust, pollen, and SPIDERWEBS still on my bike! did they even do anything???
Totally not happy. Sticking with Bicycle South even though they are a little out of my way.

I took our two mountain bikes into this shop for tune ups and the replacement of rusty cables. The were friendly when we checked in. We went over the scope of the work, I showed them our Groupon print-​out, and they were cool about it. They said it would take about a week. One week later, right on time, we were called to pick up our bikes. From what I could tell, they maybe sprayed WD40 on my bike. They did NOTHING close to a tune up. There was even crud still caked on the gears from my last ride. The rust I asked them to try and scrape off wasn’t touched. The cables I asked them to replace? Not done. A young guy with glasses who worked there shrugged and told me that my bike’s cables weren’t on the work order, just my wife’s. Then he just stared at me, obviously praying I would leave. Maybe it was the Groupon, or maybe they’re just lazy focks. I was not happy with the work, or the service. Decatur Bikes is lame. Take your business elsewhere.

I had a great experience with this business. Not having ridden a bike in 20 years, I’m incredibly rusty and behind the times. They let me take all the time I needed to ask all the questions I wanted to ask. They had a great attitude. They went above and beyond sharing their knowledge and expertise. I’m glad I took my business to them.

Came here via Scoutmob. I had a single speed track bike that I was looking to convert to a fixie… and due to laziness/​lack of real mechanical skills I decided to take it in. Walked in the shop, and sure, they were friendly enough. The mechanic wasn’t at the shop, and I was promised a phone call the next day for an estimate. Well, that phone call never came, so I had to make the call myself, and then was promised one week wait time since they had to order a part.
Well, long story short: I spent an extra week calling them multiple times because they would never call me to tell me that my bike wouldn’t be ready on time, and they also failed to tell me that they needed to charge extra for some part that I hadn’t been told I needed. They also failed to apologize, which pissed me off.
I had to threaten them that I was just going to pick my bike back up with no service for them to offer to not charge for the extra part… and then when I later went to the shop to pick up the finished bike, I personally complained to the owner who decided to make my life better by giving me an extra $ 25 gift card.
My general experience with bicycle shops has always been very positive… but here the service was terrible, and a little discount on my service failed to really take the bad taste out of my mouth. They didn’t even offer to help me take my bike out to my car… ugh!
Thank God for the Scoutmob, cause I would have hated to pay any more than I did for their lack of service.
