Dancing Goats Coffee Bar

This is some of the strongest coffee in all of Atlanta. A cappuccino will keep you productive for 8 to 10 hours. If you need to get work done, then go here. It’s a really nice environment right on the main drag in Decatur. Plenty of comfy chairs as well as an outdoor seating area. They have ice cold water for you too. I always have a great experience here! There is parking right there as well with no time limit. Definitely check it out for a good time

It’s got good coffee, and customer service is hit-​or-​miss. Sometimes you get really kind baristas and others you get rude ones. My only hangups are with the parking situation (which is almost nonexistent compared to the amount of space in the building). As well, it’s not the place you want to go to to get some work done. There are always tons of kids every time I’ve been there and people who go there don’t seem to understand personal space.
It is great for hanging out with friends, though. And has a great outdoor seating area. So I’d recommend it if you’re a biker and just want to have coffee with friends.

I like how the space is open and not crammed with tables. They have different types of seating arrangements and tables. So you can lounge or work alone or in groups. They have their own parking lot which is packed during peak hours.
The doughnuts are amazing. They have a cakey texture and is tossed in cinnamon sugar. Their food selection is pretty minimal: pastries, scones, hummus, small quiche. So this isn’t the place to have a big meal and work.
Their tea selection is from mighty leaf and they have both soy and almond milk alternatives. I don’t really like frappuccino type beverages, but they’re called chilly goats here, how can you say no to a chilly goat?

Dancing Goats is a great place to come when you want to escape the corporate coffee giants (you know which one I’m taking about with the green logo…) and go for a more local feel and even better coffee and tea.
I’ve been here several times on different occasions, and this place is always buzzing. There’s two entrances (1 at the front by Ponce, and 1 at the back from the parking lot). There’s both high top, low top, and sofa seating available indoors, and there’s a couple of tables and chairs out front as well (with a water bowl for your pup!). Though it’s usually busy no matter what time of day I go, I haven’t had an issue finding a seat if I wanted to stay. There’s also a good number of outlets located around the bigger tables for your electronics as well.
Onto the menu. Pretty standard for coffee shops: hot or iced coffees, lattes, etc. One thing that is particularly nice though is their selection of tea. They seem to have more than other coffee places, and it is premium stuff. I’ve had iced coffee, a caramel latte, and chai lattes here, and no complaints about any of them. Small is 12 oz, and medium is 16 oz. The only good item I’ve tried is the chocolate croissant… And yes, it was GOOD.
Service is usually quick and friendly, even with the long lines that typically happen. I have yet to encounter an issue.
All in all, great place to grab your caffeine fix, study, read, and/​or catch up with a friend!

This spot is great for a nice cup of fresh coffee. The bakery is filled with pastries that are made by a nearby restaurant and are quite good but slightly over priced for the quantity. The internet is fast. Lots of people in here. Gets quite crowded, hard to find parking, which are all good signs. There are other spots around this neighborhood to go to but I recommend Dancing Goats. Friendly staff as well.

I am on a quest to find truly good coffee in Atlanta, and this was one of the first places I visited. Sadly, it does not make my list, and not just because of the coffee (which was actually decent). My biggest problem with this place was their customer service and their internet. Dancing Goat’s Decatur shop is HUGE, and has a ton of tables as well as comfy chairs. This was one of the major reasons I chose them on the day I did: I had a lot of work to do, and they advertise free internet.
I got my coffee and a pastry, set up my computer, and prepared to work. When I went to log on, I found no internet. So, I went up to the counter and asked, to which I was told «we are having problems with it, but are working on it.» I took this to mean that they were working on it at that time, so I waited. Alas, after another 20 minutes, I asked again, to which I was told, no, nobody was working on it right then, and it had been out for more than a week. I asked why there was no sign or notice posted anywhere about the internet being out, to which the baristas asked me why I needed it. I also asked how it could be out for a week without getting fixed, to which I was told it wasn’t a priority.
Let me stop here and say that I think a coffee shop with broken internet is like a hotel with a broken water heater. Technically, nobody needs hot water, and a hotel can still function without it, but people check in expecting to be able to take a shower. The same is true about internet and coffee shops like Dancing Goats; when you advertise free internet and lots of space to work, people expect internet and lots of space to work. I can understand internet going down suddenly, but for a coffee shop to be without internet for a week is ridiculous.
Dancing Goats has descent coffee, but it wasn’t out-​of-​this-​world either. As I said, the space is really nice and big, but until the internet gets fixed, all that is sort of a waste.

I don’t love the ambiance of this coffee shop. It has a super corporate feel to it which is not my favorite kind of place to be in. That being said I do come here fairly often because it’s right down the street from work and the free wifi… I dont have internet at home and often need places to connect so I can download books on the kindle. I’m so lame. Anyhoo, I also don’t really love their regular drip coffee. It has a burnt taste to me. Even the latte tastes kind of burnt, but with all the added almond milk I can overlook it :)

This is your neighborhood downtown Decatur, Seattle Based coffee shop, and it’s not a Starbucks or a Seattles best coffee?! *gasp*. No, it’s dancing goats and it’s a more popping place to go and chill!
There is plenty of seating, the place is always packed, it’s a more of a come here, sit down, and get work done with friends type of place from what I’ve noticed. The selection of coffee is good, free wifi, and they have a variety of teas. I’ve noticed the food looks good too, but I’ve yet to try it.
The coffee I got was the Ethiopian Yergacheffe coffee (excuse me if I didn’t spell it correctly). If you get the «for here mug» you can get one free refill as well. They have special espresso shots ready for you, such as the one today was the Honduras single origin! I feel as though the special coffee shots and the coffee rotation is one of the things that stands out vs Starbucks! It’s a great place to study and to network! I feel as though every time I visit I meet some pretty solid people.

I love you, Dancing Goats. You’re the best. Sure, it can be hard to find parking. Yeah, sometimes the line is long and it’s slow. You can usually find a place to sit inside or out, although at certain times, it can get crowded. But it’s the best damn coffee and the nicest employees. What I love is that you can also get large catering coffee, too (airpots that are 96 oz. each, and an even bigger size, too).

I lived in ATL for college, and I moved back to ATL recently. Now that I’m back, I had to pay a visit to an old college classic: Dancing Goats.
It’s a great place for individual study or a meet-​up with a friend or two but not for large groups. The seating arrangement mostly involves bar stools, individual couches, and small tables. This place is packed throughout most of the day; so keep your eyes peeled for empty seats while waiting in line and/​or waiting for your drink.
Food and drinks are really solid here. If you order a plain cup of joe in one of their stylized ‘for here’ mugs, then the first refill is free. Their espresso drinks taste great, and I always appreciate their apparent care and artistic touch in making them. I also like their scones because they are really soft and fluffy and not hard and crusty; their cranberry and chocolate chip scone is awesome. Hopefully, that’s a keeper even though they don’t really have a ‘menu’ for baked goods per se; you just have to come in and see what’s up.
Dancing Goats is a cool environment in which you can easily get comfortable. There is a noise level, but it’s nothing out of the ordinary for coffeeshops. All of the workers there are friendly to customers, adding to the comfort level.

The service is always great. We had a espresso Macchiato and a latte. The coffee is superb here. I also picked up a t-​shirt that was sale I assume from the holiday season. Be prepared to stand in line here. Getting a seat can also be challenging but the location is perfect. You can always walk here and have a coffee after grabbing dinner at one of the local establishments.

Had a lovely little time here.
My friend and I just had dinner across the street and had half an hour to kill. Saw a coffee shop nearby so figured why not? We walked into a clean, modern, and colorful interior. Decent amount of people there, but not quite packed. I asked for a small iced mocha as I often tend to do. The drink was just right, not sweet, not bitter, not overly milky. I would gladly get it again any day.
While there was plenty of seating inside, including a little row of bar stools, we opted to enjoy the lovely, sunny 70 degree December weather. It’s a great area to people watch and chill.
Only concern is parking being hard to find, but I’m sure those more savvy with the area can manage OK. I lucked out and found a spot at restaurant we ate at beforehand.

Service was a bit slow, for some reason. The place is expansive and has nice leather chairs to recline in and to talk. Lots of people are working on their laptops here so that indicates that it’s good Wi-​Fi and a good study place. I loved the local art on the walls and one painting of Yosemite was priced at $ 1200.
The coffee was delicious, fairly priced, and I enjoyed seeing the crowd, mostly middle-​aged people but there were some Emory students there as well. It was nice seeing some of the representations of this part of the city which included a diverse crowd.
There are some nice outside seating area for when the weather is warmer and less rainy.

Dancing Goats has got one of the smoothest lattes I’ve ever had in my life. Batdorf and Bronson is freaking genius.
The interior is HUGE — at least, compared to how small it appeared from the outside. There’s plentiful parking in their private lot. The entrance has a couple of tables outdoors where some pet owners enjoy their drinks. The interior has a huge open and empty space, which is what makes it seem so spacious. The coffee bar was a little intimidating, but the barista got my latte working right away.
I really do love their espresso. Who knew a skim latte could taste so good? I love that they don’t skimp on the latte art, either. The downside to this location is the limited outdoor seating, which the other location has an abundance of.
But, damn! I can’t get over that latte!

Dancing Goats must hire the best of the batch when it comes to baristas. They consistently deliver coffee drinks that are perfect.
Last night, my boyfriend and I stopped in after dinner and I decided I wanted a frou-​frou specialty drink for dessert. I chose the mocha and it was one of the best coffee drinks I’ve ever had anywhere, period. There was nothing overly sweet or sugary about it – even the whipped cream topping was homemade and not cloying.
I almost gave Dancing Goats four instead of five stars because they close hella early – 7 p.m., even on weekends. But everything else about this place, including the easy, free parking which can be a pain to find in downtown Decatur, make this an ideal coffee spot.

After eating at Revolution Doughnuts, my bf and I realized that Dancing Goats was in the area and we decided to go since we didn’t mind having another round of coffee. This place is spacious and has plenty of seating area inside and outside, with some open area showcasing their coffee beans and other goodies. Their coffee beans are sourced from Batdorf and Bronson. I got the traditional cappuccino and my bf got the Cortado (foamed milk on top of the espresso). I enjoyed the cappuccino more than the Cortado since it was less bitter, and so did my bf, but it didn’t make him like the Cortado less though. We are new to drinking Cortados and try to get it every time we find a new coffee joint.
We really enjoyed the ambiance of the coffee shop, and despite the open space, it still felt warmer and cozier than Octane. They have some pastry items to sell as well. There’s plenty of parking space behind the café.

The house brew was pretty tasty without the typical sugar and creamer added in. For two small house coffees, one in cold and one hot, the total was about $ 6. There were some baked goods in the display case, but we opted out from it as we were more sleepy than hungry.
The coffee packages they were selling were over priced as the bf puts it. Starbucks retails theirs for about $ 8 while here it was around $ 12. Sure… That’s my input from the bf. lol. There were other products for sale as well: coffee grinder (for the home and portal ones), coffee mugs, travel mugs, etc.
The space inside was pretty spacious. There were tables outside as well. Since this was a local spot, it had a hipster vibe with lots of young adults studying.
Parking was readily available as there is a lot right where Dancing Goats is at so you don’t have to fight for parallel spots.

I couldn’t help but be impressed about EVERY aspect in this establishment. I went here to meet with someone and just the modern and inviting appearance of the building with its wide windows and pet friendly seating with the relaxing blue chairs and tables outside makes it stand out for those that pass by.
Walking in I was greeted warmly by the staff behind the counter and an enveloping cool air. The aroma of their beans is what I noticed first followed by an entire bar of fresh coffee beans you can get for yourself to take home.
The manager behind the counter was very upbeat in a casual way and his staff just seemed to match his attitude. All with smiles and a perky step to their pace as they tended to their customers.
Lastly, I must talk about my treat to a small mocha with hazelnut syrup (Nutella inspiration, anyone??) and the home made pop tart (raspberry and lemon flavor I think he said?). Both were delectable in presentation and taste. I have never had such a cup and treat that I feel I will remember like this! PLUS free internet that worked pretty well, despite the crowd. And the size is remarkable! I plan to visit when I am in town next and recommend it to others!
Clean, friendly, fresh, pet friendly, and comfortable. What more do you need?

Always packed in a Saturday afternoon. You have to wait for half an hour to get an espresso, but maybe it’s worth it if you spend the whole afternoon there.
They may have the best latte art barista in town, but Octane still top the best coffee list for me. The texture they made for that cappuccino is so subtle and elegant! But the foam is not that thick. After taking one espresso and one cappuccino, I literally cannot sleep until 3:30AM. And it’s me who can drink three espressos without any sleeping problem.

I get that Dancing Goats is much beloved by the Decatur community. I really do– the coffee is delicious, the vibe is excellent, and the people are friendly. That said, it’s not worth the drive, really, because… there’s no where to sit.
Dancing Goats has a HUGE space for a coffeeshop– and they’ve filled it primarily with retail and poor seating options. For example: There are two or three chairs/​couches in the front of the store. Unless you want to get really cozy with a stranger, these, at times, only host one or two people apiece. There are four high top half tables facing windows, that in theory, seat four people per– but in reality, seat two people who don’t know each other (and therefore don’t really want to be knocking elbows every few moments). Plus, those half tables face, as I mentioned earlier, windows– which means the afternoon sun comes blaring in them (there are shades, but those are no match for 4pm sunlight, plus are difficult to open and close anyhow).
There’s a bar overlooking the baristas; the barstools aren’t high enough for the spots to be used by those with laptops (you’d be typing up by your chest). In the back, there are two larger tables that, in theory, seat 8 people. In reality, they seat four people who don’t know each other. There’s one high top that seats around two people, and one tiny little table that seats two people who DON’T have laptops; with a laptop, it seats one person who doesn’t spread out.
So, basically, while this is a lovely coffeeshop, it’s nowhere that I’d come and order drink after drink and work on anything. On paper, they have loads of seating, but in reality, it’s scant and crowded. I wouldn’t blame them at all for this if their space didn’t allow for so, so, so much more. They could fit at least six small «two-​seater» tables to the store without it feeling jam-​packed or overcrowded. They could fit even more if they got rid of the giant tables (that, for all the space they take up, realistically only seat around three or four people).
It all seems so obvious that I suspect maybe Dancing Goats doesn’t WANT to be that sort of coffeeshop– the kind where people flock to to work and write and hang out and order all the live long day– and I guess that’s their prerogative. But that DOES mean that I only drop in every now and again, and only when I think the parking lot looks acceptably empty.
