Food $ 6 for grilled fish with broccoli and green beans. It wasn’t worth the price. The girlfriend’s fried fish platter was much tastier. Protip: Never order healthy options at a fast food fried fish place. I felt pretty good about myself for ordering the healthier option but then ate half of my girlfriend’s fried fish platter. Admittedly their fried fish is pretty golden brown and delicious especially with the tarter sauce. Décor Sticky floors and kind of dirty. The barroom looked diseased. Service Extremely slow. They were short staffed. I watched other people complain about their orders for 20 min before I got my food. Would I come here again? No. The coupon wasn’t worth the wait.

Although I’ve only eaten here once, I’ve never forgotten it. I enjoyed everything from the sweet tea to the deliciously fried fish with fries. I only wish that they had locations in Cali. I mean places like this are far better than any typical fast food spot. If I could I’d order this food and have it shipped to me.

Let me start off by saying that I really love Capt. D’s for quick fish dinners. The best Captain D’s is on Holcomb Bridge Rd toward Roswell. The staff there do it right, but I live in town and don’t get out that way very often. The absolute worst one is on Church Street in Decatur and I won’t return. The outside lights were off(maybe a sign that they won’t be there much longer). The inside wasn’t well lit either. The floor was dirty and the tables dirtier. I had to go to the ladies room to get a wet paper towel to clean my own table. Would have walked out but I had already ordered and paid. Wish I’d left before attempting to eat the cardboard-like fish. No pepper shakers so had to go to the order area to request pepper packages. Ignored by the staff until I raised my voice and repeated my request. Then the packages were thrown in my general direction with no comment and of course, no eye contact. This location needs a makeover in the physical area AND the staffing. They actually rate ZERO stars.

Food: I have eaten here on many occassions and the food is hit or miss, sometimes it’s fresh and sometimes you can tell it’s been sitting a bit. Cost: Cost is on par with other Captain D’s Dining Area: Tables are always dirty, when I ‘eat-in’ there are always empty tables but all of them are always dirty so I end up choosing the cleanest table I can find, which is still dirty. The condiments are usually empty and have ‘drippings’ everywhere. Seats and tables are typical Captain D’s style. Parking: Parking is sufficient for the business it gets. Service: Horrible, the staff acts like they could care else if you’re there or not. If you ask them to fill the condiments they roll their eyes and if you’re lucky they will fill it within 10 minutes. On my last visit, a man went off on the staff because they kept giving him and his wife attitude because he was upset over the dirty tables and the slow service. Summary: Because of the horrible service and the nasty atmosphere I’ll never return to this particular Captain D’s ever again. The only good thing that ever came from this place was the two guys selling cobblers in the parking lot.

Captain D’s is my comfort food. I’ve loved their fish since I was a kid. This Captain D’s is probably the best in the Atlanta area. The employees are nice, the store is clean and their fish was not too greasy. I ordered the stuffed flounder, which was a big mistake, and my boyfriend ordered a 3 piece fish dinner. I ate a piece of his fish, since I couldn’t eat my bready, tasteless flounder.

I don’t think they change the grease here!!! The fish taste stale every time I go. I go to the Roswell Road and Cumming locations often and there fish is tasty!!! At the Decatur location It literally looks like they took a frozen fish brick out of the freezer and dropped it in a vat of year-old grease. And they give you like eight fries. My bad for going back, I kept dreaming it would be like the other locations. Avoid this place.

It’s been crazy stressful for the past few weeks at work, stressful with a few people outsides of work who just(…sigh…), stressed that I was being so stressful that I couldn’t sleep, and got even more stressed that I didnt’ get enough sleep. So I woke up on weekend morning missing the simple days of college life. Where there isn’t much to stress about. Where we lived off of ramen noodle, spam, Moe’s, Dollar menus, and my personal favorite — Captain D’s. Found the nearest location rather far, but I miss it, so be it. I miss the fried fish, fried shrimp, fried stuffed crab, cole slaw(yes, I like it!), corn on the cob, mash potatoes, mac n’ cheese, and fries. Yes, it’s greasy, but I miss it… I miss the memories when the days were a whole lot simple — including the food we ate. They did what all southern people do best when it comes to food — they fried it. It’s that simple. And there ain’t nothin’ wrong it. They’re just keepin’ it real. That’s right. Real simple! As life should be. :)

OK, I realize this overall rating isn’t a surprise. But honestly, it was my first time ever at this(in)famous chain. Since we live so close to this place, we drive by it rather often, and since we also get their coupons in the mail(two 3-piece fish dinners for $ 7.99???), I finally convinced my wife to come with me and give this place a shot(she’s had it before…). We should’ve gotten the country dipped style of fish instead of their traditional hand-battered fish… we ate so much breading that night. Sure, the outside was crispy(it better be if it’s deep fried!)…but there was a whole lot of mush stuff between the crispness and the actual fish. Not complaining, it was as expected… :-\ The fish itself… well, it was okay. Something like you’d get from the supermarket. Not great, not bad. The hot sauce available tasted very… um…artificial. *shrug* The malt vinegar seemed rather old, but the tartar sauce and cocktail sauce were decent. Oh, and the fish was super greasy. More on this later. Score: 2 Sides: Fried Okra– this was actually done pretty well, I’ll admit. I’m sure it isn’t that hard to do, but props for this. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Score: 3.5 Green Beans– the usual overcooked-ness you expect. Score: 2 Hush Puppies– Okay. The ones at Nathalie’s Fish house are definitely better. Score: 2.5 Mac ‘n cheese– Meh. yea. Score: 2 Back to the ‘grease issue’. I walked out of this place thinking, «eh, maybe 2.5−3 stars»…but after a ‘runny’ incident on the can the next morning… I immediately suspected the ol’ captain. If you’ve got coupons, and are in a rush to get some fast food… and this place is on the way to your destination… then maybe you could take a risk, and try this place– at least you’re somewhat ‘aiding’ our economy…
