I’ll have to agree with most of the other reviewers. This place has a very annoying layout… e.g., I wanted some greek yogurt — it’s in two different places(one in the«healthy» area and one in the dairy). Then I also wanted to grab some green lentils. First, I couldn’t find any split lentils(my preference), then I found whole green lentils in two different places. I don’t get it. And there was a THIRD area with red lentils and black beans. So confusing. So then I went through the check-out line, slid my credit card, and then realized that I hadn’t given them my Kroger card. Because I had already put my credit card in the machine, it wouldn’t cancel the purchase. Then I had to go stand in a SUPER long line at customer service with ONE person working there on a Sunday. I mean, really? Everyone shops for their groceries on the weekend, and they have ONE person working there? No. I ended up having to go back the following day to be credited my $ 6. While it’s not a ton of money, it’s annoying that I had to go to such measures just to get the money that I should have been credited in the first place. Lastly, the parking is annoying. Hate. Overall, it is not an enjoyable store. While it has a lot more organic selections than other neighboring stores and a decent amount of dark chocolate options, it’s not anything to get too excited about. Unfortunately, there isn’t much else in the neighborhood to get that excited about either. I really wish that Dearborn would get a Trader Joe’s or Meijer’s. Okay, Whole Foods is expensive, but I’d love that too. Look, I love food. And right now, I’ve only got Westborn Market. If I didn’t have to dodge cars every time I walked over to Westborn, I’d never visit this Kroger. Sometimes a girl just needs a break from being a human version of frogger.

While I did not encounter any rotten fruit on the shelves of this Kroger(like the one across the street,) I have found expired products on shelves. I’ve also witnessed awkward conduct between staff members, not to mention the unusual security always watching customers checking out.

This Kroger looks to be much newer than the one right across the street. I still can’t figure out why Kroger has two stores a half mile apart, but oh well. I checked this one out to buy a bottle of wine and to have a look see. It’s big, it’s busy and it’s feels crowded. I’d say I prefer the layout of the one across the street. This one is just harder to shop. I really prefer a more medium sized store all in all. Sometiimes more makes it harder to find things. Cashiers were nice like you’d expect but all in all, not too impressed.

SHORTVERSION: dumb store layout, high prices(even with Kroger card), limited selection of some items, I hate Kroger. LONGVERSION: I always do my shopping at Meijer, and normally stop there after work when I need some groceries. But somehow today I made it all the way home before realizing that dinner was going to be bleak if I didn’t journey back out and do some shopping. I decided I’d give Kroger a try, since it’s right around the corner, and the closest Meijer is about 15 minutes away in rush hour traffic. It had been a while since I’d done any real grocery shopping at a Kroger, so I figured what the heck, I’ll give it another go. It was probably the worst decision I made all day. A moment after walking in I found my first disappointment. Being a Meijer customer, I’ve grown fond of their mini-sized carts. They’re easy to maneuver and hold all the groceries I need for the two people I shop for. Kroger, of course, has no such option. So I proceeded to wrangle a cart out of the stack, pondering if the Army also uses these mammoth steel skeletons as frames for their Humvees. I fumbled my way around the Where’s-Waldo store layout for nearly an hour. The fresh bakery bread(as a single example) is at the front of the store, while the rest of the bread is about a half mile hike away, on the complete other side of the store, past the toiletries and cleaning supplies, next to the pharmacy and sandwiched between two frozen food isles. Some of the food selection/brand variety was disappointing(couldn’t find a ribeye steak to save my life), although the produce section looked well-stocked and mostly fresh. Lastly, but most importantly… the PRICES! Even after getting the discount on some items using the Kroger card, my bill was at least 15% higher than it would have been for the same groceries at Meijer. I’ve concluded that I’ll never shop here again. Or at any Kroger for that matter. If I have to drive an extra 5 miles to Meijer, so be it.
