Hyatt Regency Dearborn

First off, this is no longer a Hyatt, it is now the Adoba Hotel a «green» hotel. So half the hotel is under work, like one of the restaurant and bar are not being used, but there is one restaurant that serves breakfast that I know of. We stayed 2 nights and received 2 breakfast vouchers each, our kids were free.
Room-​was quiet and clean, bed was very hard but bedding was very nice and clean. Bathroom was nice had 2 sinks one in with the toilet and shower and that was nice since we have kids. The towels were awesome most absorbent towels I have ever used. Tv is an old CRT tv from 1990’s but they are in work so we lived with it, not very many tv channels and most were static that was annoying, also no channel guide.
We were on 14^th floor, so our view was beautiful and we liked that you had to have room key to get up to 14^th floor, that way we knew non-​guest were not walking around.
Hotel in general-​parking lot is HUGE, but it is a hike from lot to hotel door. Front door was odd, you went in 1^st door on right, then second door on left, pain in the butt with 2 little ones in tow. Gift shop was nice and gifts were reasonable priced, not the snack though $ 4 for a powerade OUCH. Staff was great, helpful, kind and courteous. Pool was nice, very long walk from lobby but that was nice, you didn’t smell the chlorine in the lobby. There is a sauna and hot tub and the hot tub was clean. Breakfast was nice wide selection and the staff in the restaurant were AMAzing… we would stay again and recommend it to families.

This hotel was OK.
PROS:
Free continental breakfast with status. It was OK, but expansive.
The room was pretty large.
CONS:
This place is HUGE. I don’t know how they ever filled this entire hotel.
Elevators were confusing, but they looked nice.
Exercise room was almost IN the pool. It smelled of chlorine and was very small.
You had to walk a LONG way to get anywhere. As a girl who was wearing a knee brace at the time, it was a hassle.
Parking was plentiful but far away from front door.
Overall, I’ve heard they are thinking of closing. I’m not sure how real that is, but it’s scary. I’d recommend the Henry right across the street. It’s the best hotel I’ve stayed at.

Tube tv’s and charging $ 10 a day PER DEVICE for internet… welcome to 1995. Location is near a mall with nothing open after 9.

Service here was excellent, but the hotel itself has seen better days.
Plenty of parking — in-​hotel shopping options nonexistent but obviously space is slotted to shopping and it’s just empty shelves and dark crannies (kind of creepy!)
The elevators are pretty amazingly interesting and weird, and the weekend I was there was the World Steam Expo — completely appropriate to have a bunch of steampunks in Victorian era clothes in what is nearly a bombed-​out hotel!

I stayed here for the World Steam Expo, and the staff was wonderful. I felt a bit bad for other guests though, especially the wedding party that had evidently not been informed that there would be hundreds of geeks in Victorian costumes running around the hallways day and night.
Bring some naproxen, after a night on the rock-​hard mattress, my back was aching. And you might want to bring your own towel unless you like the feeling of sandpaper on your skin.
Be prepared to pay too much for internet, television (Yes, it’s all pay-​tv. No local channels) and food.
However, it was clean. I wasn’t afraid of what might be living in the bed, even the duvet was freshly laundered.
Overall though, I’ve stayed in more comfortable Super 8 hotels.

Meh, I was here for a conference and wasn’t all too impressed. The rooms were okay. Better than a super 8 or something, but you have to pay for wifi & there is no fridge & a number of people were have temperature issues in their rooms. Also, in all the conference rooms it was freezing so I continuously felt like I needed coffee to stay warm… plus, I don’t really recommend having a conference here because there is only one restaurant open most of the time in the place and it’s a complete rip off. The food quality isn’t nearly worth the price. If there were a lot of free time built into the conference it wouldn’t have been as much of an issue because you could walk across the street to the mall to get some food, but when there isn’t much time it’s annoying to have to eat all you meals in the same place for an entire weekend… especially when its not that good & overpriced.

Checked into the room after a very long walk from parking. (Alternative is Valet at $ 15/​night) Room was very hot at 75 degrees and the A/​C would not work the entire 2 night stay. Their excuse is that it was a hot day unexpectedly in spring. Maintenance came up twice. He took the air filter out of the ceiling that probably had not been changed in many years and even he was embarrassed when he saw how filthy it was. Didn’t help so he left us a fan. So here I am in a supposed 4 star hotel with a fan to cool me off. He said all the rooms were hot as the AC was not turned up all the way yet for the entire hotel. I called down to the front desk once and the clerk was very rude. The phone rang 40 times before she picked it up and I let her know this wait was not acceptable. She didn’t apologize or offer an excuse. She just wanted to give me an attitude. I asked to speak to the manager and she said she would have him/​her call right away but I never heard from a manager. Carpets are old and dirty. Rooms are old. TV is old with very few channels. Doors have big gaps under them and you can hear everything in the hallway and nearby rooms. When you enter the hotel there is a smoking area on both sides of the entrance and you have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get into the hotel. The furniture is silly. Not enough plugs for computer equipment. No fan in bathroom. Filthy bathroom tub with residue from old stuck on tub liner that does not clean well. I would stay at a Motel 6 any day over this hole of a property and I stay in hotels 260 nights a year.

I’ve stayed here with friends for Maker Faire for a couple years now.
The good:
— Not a bad price. I think it was $ 99 per night the first year, and maybe $ 120 per night this year.
— Plenty of parking
— Not a dump. Not in the best of shape, but I’ve definitely paid more to stay in worse.
— I rather like the interior décor
— Staff is friendly and helpful, as you’d expect from a hotel staff.
— Breakfast place is decent, but a bit pricey
— If you’re here for Maker Faire, free shuttles to the Henry Ford.
The bad:
— Clearly needs work. Corners on walls were scuffed up a bit, towels weren’t great, outlets can be a bit flaky. You really get the sense they aren’t spending as much on upkeep as they could.
— Internet access costs money. I’m kind of used to this by now actually — pricier hotels charge for wifi, cheaper ones don’t. It makes no sense, but it’s true. I had no issues with the wired connection though.
— Bathroom was cramped. I can’t tell if they’ve renovated them without resizing the doors, but closing the bathroom door requires… maneuvering.

Perfectly fine hotel. Staff was friendly, rooms were clean, bed was comfortable, water pressure was good.
Couple of notes:
Its located around a mall, so there is plenty of free parking (valet is offered but not needed).
Despite being located near a mall its kinda difficult to get to from Michigan Ave, but once you figure it out its okay.
Internet is $ 10 a day, I didn’t use it so I can’t comment on the quality.
There’s a bar open till midnight that wasn’t too expensive for a hotel ($ 5 beer).
There’s a Starbucks and gift shop downstairs for morning snacks/​breakfast.
My room had a connecting door to the next room, so I could hear the people next door pretty clearly. Despite this it was a pretty quite hotel.
The inside of the hotel is pretty, but from the outside it looks like an office building.

so, when i heard i was going to be staying here for work, i was totes into it. look at that curving façade! a rotating restaurant?! glass elevators?! sign me up!
no. nonononono.
first off. this place is so big, its institutional. and for being so institutional, its severely lacking some basic amenities.
like the internet. the internet?! i carry the internet in my pocket, i can use the internet when i’m parked outside a mcdonalds or driving past a starbucks. but you, GIANT HOTEL, can’t give me internet for less that 10 bucks a day? and slow internet at that?!
jeebus.
not only that. no breakfast. listen up. i can stay at most other hotel chains for half your price and i get all the cheerios i can shove in my mouth if i wake up before 10am. get it together. and even if i planned ahead and said, hey, i’ll just BYOCheerios, there isnt even a mini fridge in the room for milk! or microwave! huh?
i know, you cater to the convention crowd, but man. really one of the least comfortable hotel stays i’ve had in a long time.
for two stars, the water pressure here was kind of out of control. the shower was just like a bucket of water pouring constantly. i was in and out of the shower in like 2 minutes flat.

I bet 25 years ago, the Hyatt Regency Dearborn was the most cosmopolitan joint in town — a funky shape, glass elevators in the center of the hotel, and a restaurant overlooking all of… Dearborn. However, a lot can happen in 25 years — and none of those things seem to involve remodeling the rooms at this hotel.
Here’s what the Hyatt has to offer:
–convenience to WHQ
–convenience to the Henry for actual food and socializing
–availability when the Henry is sold out
–Front Desk staff is lovely
–it’s inexpensive — $ 110 a night and only $ 85 a night after they inevitably comp you for something they did wrong
Here’s what makes the Hyatt one of my least favorite hotels:
–the rooms are old and gross; the bathroom reminds me of a bathroom in a hospital room.
–there’s no wi-​fi. Yes, they tell you there’s wi-​fi and they charge you $ 9.95 a day for it, but it doesn’t actually work. No problem though, because there’s an ethernet cord. Oh wait, that’s broken too.
–the restaurant is overpriced by normal standards not just Dearborn ones
–the other people who stay here are strange. I spent a 10 floor elevator ride with a man who wanted to discuss prostate exams
–the gym is creepy and overlooks the swimming pool with no wall between the two… nothing like inhaling the chlorine smells of an inside pool to get you your second wind
–like every Hyatt, it has poor quality shampoo and this hotel in particular had no hairdryers (something I thought was a pretty standard amenity)
The real reason I won’t stay at the Hyatt again though is pretty simple: I found a dirty, used towel in my shower. I try very hard not to think about the people who’ve stayed in my hotel room before me but having dirty linens from them left behind makes it tough to maintain that mental state.
Thanks, but no thanks, Hyatt. If you’re in Dearborn, go to the Henry, if it’s booked, go to the Dearborn Inn, and if you get desperate go to the Doubletree which is (shockingly) a better hotel than this place. Or at least one where used towels aren’t left behind for you to remember those who came before you like the cave paintings at Lascaux.

$ 10/​day for Wifi (but it says included on my reservation)
The lattes from the espresso stand are substandard.
For $ 150 this place is decent but not remarkable. The bathrooms could use a major update.

I’m quite surprised by all the disappointing reviews about this Hyatt hotel. I’ve stayed there for business in Dearborn a handful of times in the last year and have found the hotel perfectly satisfactory each time.
I’ve never had issue with:
* torn sheets, dirty towels, or debris in the hall
* rude or inefficient staff
* dirty or stained carpet
In fact, I think this hotel is quite beautiful. It’s VERY quiet (it’s so large and with the decline in Detroit’s economy…); I find it a nice change from many of the other hotels I frequent. The staff at check-​in have always been crisply efficient and friendly; I have been impressed by their service every.time.
A hotel is a hotel for me, and if I don’t notice when something is amiss, I think they’re doing a good job. This isn’t a boutique hotel, so there’s no key differentiators that make it better or worse than other properties – but I’d gladly (and will!) stay there again.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful inside. This hotel use to be one of the top hotels in detroit, it has gone down some but its still a nice place to stay. The restaurant is pretty nice as well. Great view from the restaurant on the top floor. Then its located right next to Fairlane mall, amc movies, and restaurants.

After seeing other reviews, we were pleasantly surprised by our visit. This property looks like other mega hotels by Hyatt (1970s) and sits at a shopping mall. Connecting room for the kids, breakfast for ten, and the facility were all fine. The bathrooms were small and ordinary, but functional. Not memorable, but good.

I stayed at this hotel on 12 separate occasions this year. The hotel is excellent on recovery, but fails miserably in every other way.
First of all, it is an old hotel in desperate need of renovation. The carpets are torn and dirty, the technology simply doesn’t meet modern standards, and the food offerings are worse than any crappy diner I’ve ever encountered. Seriously, how can this property maintain the title of Hyatt Regency? It is worse than almost any Holiday Inn I’ve ever seen. On no fewer than 10 of my 12 stays, the pillowcases or sheets had holes. The carpet was so worn out, I was astonished it hadn’t been replaced at least five years ago!
The hotel has changed hands a number of times recently, and I think the owners just have no intention of putting any money into it. The toilet seats don’t fit the toilets, the sinks drain slowly, and the internet is problematic.
The only positives I can think of when it comes to the Hyatt Regency Dearborn are the free parking and the staff’s service recovery abilities. Whenever I complained about something, they were apologetic and issued free food/​beverage vouchers or issued credits to the room. The problem is that I’d much rather have a hotel room in decent condition with reliable internet and proper bedding than a free $ 12 appetizer!
I wouldn’t ever stay here again on my own dime. It sees a lot of convention business, and I’m guessing it is probably pretty cheap. Never again, Hyatt Regency Dearborn!

Cut the trip short and moved to another hotel. This hotel was a big disappointment. The hallway and lobby floors are littered with debris and obviously not vacuumed daily. All of the common areas have dust including the walls of elevators and hallways. The internet does not work and the hotel is not able to accommodate with any technical support. Housekeeping does not do a thorough job. We stayed here for three nights and we had to leave to move to another hotel. We were very disappointed in the service and the ability of the staff to operate this property efficiently. I can’t stress enough how dirty this property including just obviousl garbage and clutter lying around the common areas.

I expected the Hyatt to be a better experience, based on the brand name.
Breezed through town for a two-​day three night stay. Found the hotel upscale, and elegant. BUT that clearly came at a price: they made you pay for every single little thing. Such as… drum roll… internet access. I’m not kidding. Give me an f’ing break! You’re in Detroit, not Los Angeles or New York! WiFi should absolutely be complimentary, if you’re not in one of the top three cities (NY, LA, CHI).
Secondly, I made two local phone calls that lasted less than a minute each. $ 1.60 each call. Again, WTF?
Other points I noticed: Someone left a room service plate with a ½ eaten slice of cake outside their room on the floor. The plate lay on the floor for my entire stay and still hadn’t been picked up by the time I left. Nasty.
The bathroom was poorly designed. Couldn’t sit on the toilet and close the door: the clearance wasn’t enough.
The hotel had a tiny kiosk for self– printing boarding passes, but no business center for printing out directions: you had to ask someone to do that for you. Inconvenient!
Complimentary coffee was provided during morning hours, but gone by 12. Some of us like drinking coffee all day!
The hotel workout room had two pieces of outdated equipment. Hotels are known for not having the best or latest in workout equipment, but again, I expected better from Hyatt.
Here’s a reality check. Hilton Hotels in Chicago offered way more than these guys did at totally comparable prices. Free breakfast, great workout rooms, business centers, coffee all day, clean hallways… wake up Hyatt! Need to step up your game. I know motor city is going through painful changes right now, but you gotta keep up your game, otherwise you’ll lose me. Won’t be staying here again.

Recently attended the Youmacon convention here and had a great hotel experience. The hyatt standard shines through at this hotel, with beautiful public areas, excellent customer service, and well kept rooms.
The convention hotel rate was fantastic, although the food was overpriced as hyatt food normally is. There is a distinct lack of elevators, it seemed like one was broken for most of the weekend. Also there was no stairwell access to walk up instead of taking elevators.
My other complaint is that their parking isn’t really accessible, you have to walk over two hills to get to the nearest lot, not a big deal unless you’re trying to carry in a few suitcases to avoid multiple quarter mile trips.
