Business Owner

Tom Rubens has been a lifelong entrepreneur. He began trading on The Chicago Board Options Exchange after graduating from the University Of Illinois, and traded commodities and options for 13 years, before entering the minor league sports business.

In 1989, he put together a group of investors and purchased an expansion franchise in the Continental Basketball Association. The Grand Rapids Hoops became the most financially successful team in the history of the League. After five years, Tom sold the team and formed another group to purchase the Waterloo Diamonds Baseball Club of the Midwest League, a Class A minor league affiliate. The team was subsequently moved to Lansing Michigan, where it is still one of the most successful teams at any minor league level. After brokering another Midwest League Franchise, Tom moved to Dayton in 1998 to be near his son, Sam.
