I’m writing this review while I wait for my husband to return on this Saturday morning with a box of donuts, and it occurs to me that I have the excitement and anticipation of a child on Christmas morning. I have no idea what will be in the box, but I hope it includes peanut butter and jelly, chocolate and custard, and maple bacon. Gah, he’d better hurry!

My son and I stopped by Stan’s as our first stop on the Butler County Donut Trail. Stan’s is a classic donut shop with 8 – 10 tables, a friendly walk up service counter and fresh donuts. On this particular Saturday, they were picked down with only a few varieties available. We tried a couple classics: a glazed yeast and a glazed cake. Both were fresh, slightly warm with a thin, sugary glaze. The cake donut was slightly moist in the middle and the perfect coffee complement!

Doughnuts are amazing but service is horrible. Teenaged boys screaming to the back room, discussing last night’s conquests in front of customers and replying,“yup“when I thanked THEM for my purchase Three boys always at the coffee counter swearing and acting obnoxious; one of them works there.

I hadn’t had a donut, other than grabbing one from a gas station, in years. I looked for a local donut shop and found some information and reviews about Stan’s. The reviews mostly said that the donuts were great, but the service was not. Yesterday, after dropping my son off at school, I went to Stan’s. I thought that even if the service sucked, I would grab some good donuts. Turns out, the service was awesome! The lady behind the counter, Shannon, was adorable! She was happy to answer all of my questions, make recommendations, and seemed to go above and beyond to be nice. I hope that people will try Stan’s for themselves. Could be, the person serving the donuts, was just having a bad day! By the way, the maple-bacon donut is WONDERFUL! SUPPORTLOCALBUSINESS!

These donuts are seriously the best in the area. You should try them, because everyone deserves to have a fantastic donut… or three! I highly recommend the chocolate with custard, my absolute favorite! I gave them three stars for two reasons: the parking lot is in terrible disrepair and just getting worse. There are no lines and people just park haphazardly all over the place, including blocking other people in. This is very frustrating and could easily be fixed by painting lines. The other, main reason, for the lack of stars from me is because despite their world class donuts, the counter staff is rude, rude, rude. They don’t even try to greet customers with a smile or say thank you after you make your choices. If there isn’t anyone waiting, they just turn around and walk away, as if you are already gone. I’ve been going here for eight years and they’ve never tried for courtesy.

First, how does this place get two dollar signs($$) at forty cents a donut? Great classic donut shop. You can see the guys in the back making the donuts and the person that comes out to ring you up always has flour on them. Bring these to the office and people cheer. Hate to say I tried the peanut butter filled, chocolate covered but it was pretty damn good. I can start my diet tomorrow. Maybe.

This is not the fault of management, but I feel obligated to mention that my mom was mugged early one morning in the parking lot. She wasn’t seriously hurt(only a bruised shoulder). Please be aware of your surroundings, especially when it’s dark!
