Skyline Chili

There’s something they put in the chili in Cincinnati that has an addictive quality. I almost always need a bowl or a dog when traveling to or through the area. I began stopping at this Skyline Chili location because of its convenient location off I-​75 just north of Dayton, so it’s almost in Detroit. After eating there several times we now stop as much because of the great customer focused crew as for the delicious chili dishes. I had eaten at other Skyline locations and, in some cases, the difference in service is unmistakeable.
In Detroit the most well known rivalry is between American and Lafayette for coneys. I’m not sure, as a non-​local chili lover, what that is for Cincinnati. Purely for number of locations it seems that Skyline is the top dog (pun intended). And they serve top quality, delicious Coneys and Chili bowls. I have tried chili and coneys at other restaurants in the area, but for the combination of tasty, quality food, reasonable prices, and convenient locations, you can’t go wrong with Skyline!

Good chili not great. Food was hot, presented just as the menu pictures look. I would revisit if hungry but nothing much else to write about. Meh

This was my first visit to Skyline Chili. Based on the staff friendliness and knowledge I will be back. The spaghetti chili onion cheese was good. I was glad I went in to sit down to learn about Skyline. Management should be very pleased with their staff! It was a cold March evening and decided with all of the restaurants around to go have chili to warm up. That was a great decision. The food is good and prepared right in front of you when at the counter. Thank you guys for making that a good dinner

I have lived outside of Ohio since the 80’s. However, once this place was established we have stayed in the area to get to the airport because of close proximity. We do visit the area because of family once or twice a year. ALWAYS this Skyline is our stop on the way out for that last taste before going back to Colorado. The waitstaff is extremely friendly, the food is exactly what we expect and remember. A true Ohioan will stop here and appreciate.

Sat in drive thru for 10+ minutes behind 1 car then they finally pulled away and I pulled-​up to speaker and sat there another 5 minutes and no one answered so I pulled-​up to the window and tried waving at the workers inside and even honked my horn with workers standing 5 ft away and no one flinched! I LOVE Skyline but they lost my business that evening!

I was reallly looking forward to trying this place out after seeing on a travel show episode. Driving up, I was a little hesitant becuase of outside apperance. Do not let it deceive you. The staff is really friendly and service is prompt. The staff took a momemt to explain the menu to me. I decided to go all the way and order the 5 way with everything on it. It was pretty good. I was mildly surprised how good it tasted. I usually find places that are shown on travel or cooking shows are usually a disappointment and over rated. I think the concept works well because it is relatively inexpensive, filling, and taste better expected considering how simple the concept is. A must do when visiting the midwest.

When Ohio, I get this. Fresh and delicious, I love the chili. The cheese is freshly shredded and onions newly minched. The staff is friendly despite me coming in toward closing time. Alyssa even put on the bib for me.

Ordered the 3 way with garlic toast, it was delicious. I was served immediately. All of the staff went out of their way to be friendly.
Will definitely eat here again.

Met all skyline expectations. I am a skyline expert and the quality and service matches what you should expect.

How is it that I am nearing 4 decades of life and no one has told me about this before. I am now on my way to find a case of chili before I return south. If you go in expecting chili like you would have anywhere else, you will be pleasantly surprised. It is a completely flavor. It’s chili but with an awesome twist.

Cheap and plentiful!
This was my first time at Skyline Chili and it was not what I expected. I heard that while in Ohio I had to try it. I did not realize it was a chain and basically fast food. I figured that out the moment I saw the building. Not saying this is a bad thing, but I lowered my standards immediately.
When you get there you seat yourself, but you have a server. However, at the end of the meal you go to the front to pay.
I wouldn’t say it is the best chili in Ohio, but it was good and cheap. I really liked the chili on the spaghetti noodles (it’s called a 3 way). It is not really chunky/​hearty chilli, but it makes a good sauce. I just wouldn’t eat it by itself. I got the small, which is basically a kid size. I would suggest if you are hungry at all get a bigger plate. Weird thing is the kids meal 3 way comes with a drink and is cheaper!
If I lived in Ohio I would probably eat here quite often. I would definitely suggest trying it for the experience, but don’t take a date here thinking it will impress her!

I agree with Dennis below, fabulous service here. Food is hot, fresh and comfortably predictable.

Growing up in the Cincinnati area, I’ve been eating Skyline for many years. This location does it right every time. The food is always hot and fresh.
Make sure you dine in! The service here is incredible!

Very different sweet tasting chili served over spaghetti I had it 4 way. I would try it again.

I’m used to really fast service when I go to a Skyline. Sit down and eat chili within 3 minutes it seems like. During a Saturday afternoon visit to this Skyline, we probably waited about 10 minutes before we were eating delicious chili. It’s not a big deal, and definitely not a complaint. Simply, it’s one of the only differences I could discern from this Skyline and others I’ve been too. The chili was delicious (of course) and it seemed like we got the sky-​high cheese, even though we didn’t ask for it!
This one also has a drive-​thru for chili on the go!

Skyline is in my opinion the bast Cincinnati style chili (not as much a fan of Goldstar). 5 way is the ticket and ask if they have jalapeño cheese if you like to give it a little kick (plus the hot sauce to really spice it up).
You can’t go wrong and Skyline is a must every time I’m in Dayton.

Okay chili.
Driving west across Ohio, we took a small detour (I-​75 South) near Dayton and stopped for lunch at Skyline Chili, located across the street from Wal-​Mart and Hooters. I was really looking forward to trying out some Cincinnati style chili over spaghetti. This restaurant offers full table service (seat yourself), takeout, and a drive-​thru window. The kitchen area is open.
We decided to eat in since eating chili can get messy. We started out with a Diet Pepsi and a Sierra Mist ($ 1.75 each) and given some oyster crackers. My friend ordered a Regular Coney without cheese (freebie on the day we went) and a Garden Salad ($ 3.29). I ordered the 5-​Way Chili over Spaghetti ($ 7.29). The food was served fairly quick. The Garden Salad was pretty basic, romaine lettuce, diced tomatoes. shredded cheese, and a packet of dressing. The Coney was a disappointment, which was very mushy and tasted like a canned Vienna sausage. However, the 5-​Way Chili over Spaghetti was pretty decent tasting and a good sized portion with soft spaghetti, piled with a thick chili, onions, red beans, and a big mound of shredded cheese (more than plenty) on top. The chili was okay to me, which was not too spicy. If you’re a cheese lover, then this chili/​spaghetti dish is for you! We were also given refills on the soft drinks during our meal to wash down the aftertaste.
Overall a pretty filling lunch. I know for next time to skip the hot dog and stick with the chili.
