I also had the experience that many of the other customers have had. I decided on a patio set and paid for it. When I got home, I decided that I did not want it. I called and asked for my money back but was told that it was a final sale and I could not do anything about it. Stuck with $ 3000.00 patio set. Even automobile companies allow you to change your mind!

I’m writing this a year after the fact, but it needs to be written. It’s a shortened version of my horrible experience. Bought a clearanced outdoor wicker furniture set on a Sunday with a delivery to be set on Friday. On Thursday evening, I stopped in Patio and Hearth to see if the price had been lowered. While there, I saw the set on the sales floor. Less than an hour later, I found a nicer set at Watson’s that better suited my needs. So I called Patio and Hearth to cancel. The salesman acted annoyed and said he wasn’t sure he could do that because I «signed a contract.» What I signed said nothing about all sales being final, and since I never received the merchandise, I figured this was no problem. There was no sign in the store indicating their unusual policy, nor was I verbally told of it during the purchase. This was not a custom order, nor was it the floor sample. I told him I did not want the furniture, and told him not to deliver it. The salesman said he’d have to talk to the owner and would call me back. Well, I waited and never got the call, so that evening I called the credit card company to dispute the charge on merchandise that had not left the store. The next day I called Patio and Hearth to make sure they wouldn’t deliver the furniture. The owner — who in my opinion is the biggest jerk I’ve ever done business with — insisted that I signed a contract. They pretty much told me they were going to dump the furniture in my driveway and leave. I told the owner that if they came on to my property I’d call the police. Well…the delivery guy showed up. I felt sorry for him because he knew nothing and was just doing his job. I explained that I told Patio and Hearth I didn’t want the furniture and that he was to leave. After making a call the delivery guy left. I can honestly say this was the worst interaction I’ve ever had with any company. When I say the owner was a jerk… he was absolutely a jerk. Please understand… the consumate jerk. One cannot possibly be more of a jerk than the owner of this company. This ranks as the most bizarre retail experience of my life. You’ve been warned.

Horrendous experience. The owner is apparently an attorney, and uses his background to ensure that contracts are written ambiguously to protect his business versus working with customers. I had a contract for a fireplace system, and the salesperson called to tell me that he made a $ 500 mistake. I told him that we had a contract and the owner deliberately tried to deliver cheaper goods versus what I had ordered to make up for the salesperson’s mistake. I filed a BBB complaint against them. If you want a gas fireplace, go to Dayton Fireplace Systems!
