Murphy’s Autocare and Tire

For several years I went to this place until I finally wised up. Sadly, this was after spending THOUSANDS on what I now realize were unneeded «repairs.» Take your car in for anything and I can almost guarantee you these folks will «find» a major issue that is going to cost you big bucks. I’m kicking myself for all the times I should have sought a second opinion and instead trusted these guys. If you simply must go here then PLEASE get a second opinion before giving this gang the go ahead.

Shops like this are the reason people do not trust mechanics. They charge a 300% mark up on parts over stores like O’reileys or Autozone. They charge you $ 58 for walking in the door and then charge $ 125 an hour for labor. They are the most expensive shop in Beavercreek. A dealership is cheaper. Stay away.

I have used Murphy’s for a very long time and they have always been very honest and treated my family with respect. They are extremely thorough and have helped me prioritize what needed repaired with the safety of my family in mind. I have gotten second opinions a few times and they are always close in price with other repair shops. Being able to trust your mechanics to be thorough, fair and maintain the repair time estimates is tremendous; they treat you like family.

Murphys is simply amazing! They go above and beyond that of being expert auto repair. They are not only customer friendly but they give back to the community and our military as well. They accept donated vehicles and refurbish them on their dime and donate them to needy community and military members. These vehicles truly make a difference in the lives of these folks. Honestly, they can be the difference between having a job and home and homelessness. How many places do that?!? Exactly…

Murphy’s auto care was a life-​saver. They came and jumped my car in the Kroger parking lot when my battery died. The following day I brought my car into the shop to get my battery replaced. It was a quick and painless process. The guys were really nice and professional. I definitely would go there again.

Brought my car in for an oil change. Vehicle taken back within minutes of arriving, waiting room was great and access to Wi-​Fi was a huge bonus so that I could keep working while my car was being taken care of. Service was great!

This place is a rip-​off!!! Murphys Auto Care charged me $ 300 for a part that cost $ 115 at Advance/O’reilleys auto parts store. One hour of labor cost $ 119. All in all they charged me $ 600 to swap out an alternator!

Ethical? Nope. A place of integrity? Nope. Stereotypical body shop that will try to insult your intelligence? For me, yep.
I don’t like posting negative reviews, but I am very disappointed with this place. I did my research on repair shops and this place got really good reviews so I had high hopes.
I went in to get my brakes checked because they were squeaking and I thought the pads might need to be replaced despite having only 20,000 on my car and it being only a little over 2 years old. One thing I can say positively is that everyone was courteous and that seems rare these days. Anyway, one of the mechanics rode with me in my car down the street to see if they could hear the squeaking or feel grinding, which they did not, but they wanted to take a closer look. A half hour after waiting, I was told that my rotors were rusted and the calipers needed replacing, and that I was leaking brake fluid. I was told that if I drive long distances with less braking I would probably be okay, but that my brakes were going to fail soon and that after probably another month or so, I would have maybe 3 or 4 pumps on the brakes and then I would be unable to stop; basically I was driving around in a death trap. They even showed me pictures of my car «leaking brake fluid» and of my rusted rotors. Of course this scared me, not knowing much about cars, so I asked how much it would be to replace everything. I was given a quote of $ 800!!! I told them, um… no way am I paying that amount. NO. WAY. I suggested that I had an extended warranty on my car and maybe the dealership would cover it. I thanked them, and before I left I was asked to leave a positive review on Google, which I agreed to, but never got around to it.
Fast forward a couple of months because time got away from me and my brakes didn’t seem to be getting any worse. I took my car to the dealership and explained to them what I had been told at Murphy’s expecting to have to come out of pocket at least $ 200 – 300 to pay for the deductible. Well, the mechanic at the dealership came to me after having my car for almost an hour and told me that there was absolutely NOTHING WRONG with my brakes and I had a MINIMUM of 6,000 miles before the pads needed to be replaced. He said the wear on my brakes was normal for how many miles I had on the car. I told him he had to be joking. He said that someone was trying to take advantage of me and that he even drove my car down the street to make sure. Of course I was thrilled, but wow, was I livid that I was blatantly lied to by a place that seemed so reputable! If you are planning to take your car here, it might be a good idea to go ahead and get a second opinion before having any work done. I know I won’t be bringing my car here again. Nope.

First of all, I went here because it had a high rating, but that’s only because they push and push people to review the place.
It took them two hours to do a $ 40 oil change while I waited in the lobby (with an appointment, no less,) then tried to convince me my car is falling apart to sell me stuff.
The guy was very patronizing… just because I’m inexperienced with cars doesn’t mean I’m dumb enough to let you charge me for installing wiper blades on my car.
Not going back, and I wouldn’t recommend them.

Went in for new brakes. They found $ 1200 worth of repairs. After talking to 3 other mechanics, found out that Murphys was blatantly wrong. I asked them to not go forward with the service, I received new brakes for $ 60 from another place.
They claimed i needed new rotors when all other mechanics later disagreed.
Please find another place of business with a more integrity.

I went to this place 3 times and now I’m done. I first when to it cause it had some great reviews in google and here. But honestly if I’m going to pay 45 dollars for an oil change I’ll have to dealership do it and they will rotate my tires for the same price. The first time I went to them great customer service I’ll give them that. But I got my oil changed and tires rotated and balanced, way overpriced. They broke a lug nut in which they charged me. But their customer service (free oil change coupon I got in the mail) brought me back, no issues that time other than their desk manager telling me I needed to change my transmission fluid (I had flushed in CA before I had left and my car was shipped less than 10K miles before) cause it was discolored, its yellow thats the color of transmission fluid. They also tried to tell me I needed this fuel injector cleaning. Today I brought it again to get an oil change and asked could you look at my brakes they squeak in the mornings. Once again oil change 42.95 and no tire rotation included and to my surprise for them to take a look at the brakes it would cost another 60 dollars… ARE YOU KIDDING ME? All dealerships and places will look at that for free! He also said to do the transmission fluid and fuel injection at a nice price of 500 dollars… I declined everything but the oil change, I decided after that I would just pay the same price and have a dealer do it now on. I picked my car up, when I got in he notified me that I should think about buying 4 new tires that they would need to be replaced soon. I expect this stuff at a dealer not at a family run company. Sorry Murphys I’m done.

I’d like to first put this review into perspective by stating that I naturally approach any auto care business with a great deal of skepticism. It’s unfortunate, but it seems as though you have to approach any auto care business with extreme wariness (bordering on paranoia), unless you’re dealing with a family member who happens to be a mechanic, a close family friend mechanic or someone equally trustworthy of being ethical. With this in mind and after a great deal of consideration, I elected to give Murphy’s Auto Care 2 stars.
I took my car here for a simple oil change without looking into how much it would cost beforehand. Needless to say I was surprised to find out it was $ 40! I’ve only paid that much once, and it was at a dealership in a ritzy area of Los Angeles. I expect to pay more at a dealer, and even more for taking my car to an expensive neighborhood, but not at a non-​dealer in a relatively «inexpensive» area. I didn’t feel like walking out and finding a cheaper auto care center as I was short on time and had been putting it off for some time. –2 Stars for being priced extremely expensive.
I also got the standard up-​sell routine so many of these businesses are infamous for. I hate continually being bombarded with offers for fuel injections, carbo-​cleaning and all the other latest fad inventions by the auto maintenance industries. The value of these types of maintenance (in my opinion), is questionable at best, and offering them to an audience that’s already skeptical of your trust worthiness only breeds more mistrust. –1 Star for the upsell routine
As a side note, I’d like to mention that the mechanic identified a discoloration of the transmission fluid and marked the transmission fluid as «yellow» on his assessment sheet. The transmission fluid had been flushed/​changed only a couple months back and less than a few hundred miles ago. After some discussion, they told me that perhaps the mechanic had made an error or that the fluid was just naturally discolored. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, but mention that these types of assessments don’t put the business in a positive light when discussed alongside the standard up-​sell routine. Here’s how it sounds to a skeptic customer:(Read this aloud in an exaggerated 1950’s radio/​TV commercial voice): «Car not performing right? What you need is a precision engineered board certified laboratory tested fuel injection service performed by a highly qualified and experienced auto service agent! And oh yeah, your fluid looks a little dirty, what you need is a transmission flush!».
I’m not saying Murphy’s Auto Care isn’t unique in up-​selling these kinds of services to unsuspecting customers only wanting an oil change. I’m only saying they’re at best only at the same level as other businesses pitching these types of services, which isn’t a bad thing if you’re goal is only to be average at best.
As for me, I’ll continue searching for an honest, reputable business with fair prices that doesn’t try to line their pockets by trying to upsell me with a variety of questionably useless services. When I find that business, they’ll get my hard earned cash for not only the routine oil changes, but the other more expensive labor intensive repairs that today’s gadget ridden and increasingly «sophisticated & advanced» automobiles seem to require.

I’m new to the Dayton area and after only being here 2 months, this is the 3^rd mechanic I’ve been to for various reasons. I’m very happy to have found them.
Ryan and Don have both been extremely helpful and have ended up correcting various things not done quite right from the other two shops, one of which I wasn’t aware. Plus, they found other things that I’m glad they did earlier rather than later. On top of timely service, quality service, good customer service skills, they even handle the rental car from their own lot. As many of us customers know, logistics is half the battle when choosing a mechanic. They ended up renting me the car for the entire weekend, with the cost going towards the repairs as they were over x amount. Fair enough and most welcome.

I’m new to the area, so finding a trustworthy mechanic is one of my top priorities. Luckily, I didn’t have to search for long. After doing a bit of e-​sleuthing, I saw that Murphy’s was getting reviewed well pretty much across the board. I made a few online appointments at the top local mechanics, and decided whoever calls first will get my business. Murphy’s called not long after my appointment was made, so I took my car there. I was just going in for routine maintenance, so I had an idea of what the cost would be, and what was already wonky on my vehicle. The crew at Murphy’s identified everything, and one thing I’d missed. I was very impressed, and even moreso with the price. If you’re looking for a car mechanic, this is where you want to stop in.

Breaking down out of town was not fun… But atleast we found a great place to go. We were expecting to be out of a car for a day or two. Dave was able to get us back on the road by 5pm. If you ever pass through Beavercreek and need a great family owned repair shop — this is the one. Thanks guys for getting us back on the road quickly!
