History

Established in 1978.

Hospice of Dayton is a genuine Dayton original. Founder Betty Schmoll led the effort to create a new service to address the needs of those with life-limiting illnesses and solicited support from members of the Miami Valley healthcare community, which contributed resources and nursing staff to establish a non-profit, community supported hospice. Schmoll’s innovative and inspirational leadership led to the founding of Hospice of Dayton in 1978. Dayton was one of only a handful of cities across the nation to dedicate resources to such an effort.
