Go see Laura! I went blond at ANOTHER salon (Not Strands) and it looked terrible! I told Laura I wanted to go back something more brown. I thought I would have to go back to one color but… She is SO talented. She blended my blonde highlights with brown and now I am a brunette with a little bit of blonde for dimension! I have never loved my hair color more! Seriously cannot say enough good things about her. Staff is also very professional and sweet!

I recently moved to the area and generally have a hard time finding someone who can do an amazing job with my abundant, thick, curly hair. Everyone was extremely friendly and I also enjoyed the ambiance of the salon. So despite my request for lots of layers, my hair wound up looking very triangular and blunt at the bottom with essentially only two layers close together. I usually leave the salon with wet hair (especially since natural products do not provide any control for my curls) to do at home with my own products and still saw minimal layering. I was unhappy with the overall cut, and the salon was extremely happy to redo the cut. I went back the next day and everyone was very understanding– I get that curly hair can be difficult the first time. So this time she added some more layers, but still not nearly enough for my liking. So while the overall experience at the place is great, I am undecided whether I will return for a third try. Everyone was extremely friendly and understanding, but I am not sure I will get the layers needed for my curly hair.

Been going here for years. We see Jeanette and have always been happy with her results! My son, who is super phobic about hair cuts (after many barber mishaps), is finally comfortable getting his haircut thanks to her. There are lots of salons in town and I’ve never felt compelled to try another. Plus, I love the Aveda products.

I have gray (salt pepper) medium length hair (shoulder level). I needed a slight trim and some subtle shape to make hair look nicer before attending a conference next week. I had a groupon deal for $ 33 for a haircut and deep conditioning. I called the salon to make an appointment and was informed that the groupon would be accepted only by one of the stylists– Shonika. I decided to give her a try and am pleased with the outcome. Shonika asked what I wanted and suggested a bit more layers to give bounce and ‘movement.’ The ‘deep conditioning’ involved a special conditioner (after shampoo) that was left in my hair for five minutes before washing off. (Can’t say I felt any difference in my hair the next day compared to any good conditioner). But the hair cut gave a better shape and I am very pleased with the result. Also, she put very little «product» in my hair before blow-​drying on gentle heat so I could see what it would look like on a normal day (as I air-​dry my hair and rarely use any extra product). I felt Shonika respected what I wanted to achieve and did a great job of making subtle cuts. Also, she was one of the few stylists who actually complimented my grays instead of itching to color them!

Wow! Is all I can say, I have been to other salons and my hair never came out as I expected or felt so good. Anteinnatte is absolutely the BEST! I always want something different and she is always honest and gives me her input and will not let my hair get damaged, like other salons that just try to give you what they think you want and it just ends up all wrong and in happy, I can honestly say thanks to Anteinnatte I truly come out feeling glamorous and beautiful, my hair is always right! She exceeds my expectations. Walking in the salon I love being greeted by the best, Justine is amazing she always make sure to ask if I need some water, tea etc, always goes out of her way to insure my visit was great. Thank you ladies! Will never go anywhere else as long as these two ladies are around.

Have been here at least 10 times for haircuts over the last few years– they were «ok», but never came out very flattering– I figured it was my hair. Finally got frustrated with them not really listening to what I wanted, and tried another salon, and realized I should have done that a long time ago, since they made my hair do exactly what I wished for. The staff is friendly, the place is inviting, but had a few different stylists here, and none of them were that great.

I had my first experience here today with Shonika and I will never go anywhere else again! Very relaxing atmosphere from start to finish with a friendly staff (and they are very considerate of one another). Shonika was honest, kind and very open to discussing hair possibilities. My cut is exactly what I wanted and very well done. I can’t wait for my next appointment when we start playing with my color. Very pleased with the first of many experiences here.

Shelby is an amazing esthetician! She gets me in the last minute, the environment very relaxing, and makes waxing pain free. I look forward to my monthly visits with Shelby.

Update: I just went in for a facial with Shelby and it was amazing ! Super relaxing environment that she created and I loved how throughout the facial she explained everything she was doing and what was next. This was my first facial that I’ve had by Shelby and I would definitely come back and treat myself to another.

After losing my stylist of many many years who moved out of the country, Antainette was recommended to me. Just had a cut, highlights and all over color. She is a great stylist and has such a wonderful personality. I would highly recommend her to anyone!

I needed a haircut ASAP and my normal stylist wasn’t available, so I booked an appointment at strands. My appointment was the first appointment of the day. When I arrived, the receptionist was doing her hair at one of the stations. As someone who used to be a receptionist in a salon, I would never dream of coming to work with unstyled hair and styling it in front of waiting customers. I hope management knows about this — that she was on the clock doing her own hair instead of actually working.
My stylist arrived 10 minutes late and didn’t attempt to apologize or explain her tardiness. It was a weekend and there was no traffic, so I feel like her tardiness was unprofessional.
The cut was awful. I asked for her to basically follow the same cut I had — long layers. After shampooing my hair, she blow dried it, then flat ironed it, THEN cut it. My hair is naturally straight, so this was completely unnecessary and didn’t make any sense. When a person asks for layers, it’s to a) provide texture, and to b) lighten the ends so they aren’t so heavy. What’s the point of adding layers if someone flat irons your hair completely straight? It looked ridiculous. At that point, I didn’t trust her to fix it as she obviously was lacking in skills. She barely even cut any layers so I couldn’t even style it at home. There were a few wispy pieces that were slightly shorter than the rest. It looked like it was just cut straight across. When I went to get it fixed at my normal salon, my stylist remarked that it didn’t even look like she had cut any layers at all!
This salon gets 2 stars instead of 1 because she didn’t completely butcher my hair, and the salon was clean. Regardless, I won’t be back.

I’ve not ever treated myself to a place like this and I’m so glad I did, totally worth the extra $! I wasn’t expecting a scalp massage that was so amazing and I was extremely pleased to be asked what my hair are routine is along with how it naturally lays so that the haircut I got would match my lifestyle. I felt pampered and valued as a client, I’ll certainly be coming back.

Laura is great! I have «mixed» girl hair as in half African American and half Irish. She had never seen my natural hair before because I straightened it so it was ready for her to cut. She did a great job and was not afraid to cut or layer too much. I have had people before that don’t realize how my hair shrinks when it is natural so they get scared to cut it, but this was not the case.

Styling and hair cuts are amazing.

I have been to multiple Aveda salons over the past 9 years in Berkeley, Walnut Creek, San Francisco, and Davis. I have seen many different stylists and by far my favorite are the ones at the Artbeat North Berkeley/​Albany location. But because of convenience this time, I tried the Davis salon. By far, the worst experience I have had at an Aveda salon. I paid $ 50 for a very basic trim with Antainette who started the appointment 10 minutes late when I had been patiently waiting 15 minutes prior to my 11am appointment. She gave me an apathetic greeting then stayed mute for the nearly entire haircut, rushed through everything (the scalp massage, hair wash, cut and blow dry) to finish in a whopping 30 min, and somehow managed to make my hair look about the same as if I had just cut it myself.
Bottom line: if you want to waste money on a mediocre haircut and subpar service, then this is the place to go.

I used a Groupon for my first cut here, but I’ll definitely be back. Chanel was my stylist and she was great. She took her time and made me feel very comfortable. I loved the aromatherapy that started the visit, and the relaxing shoulder and head massage. My hair looks great and exactly what I wanted. The prices are on the high end for Davis, but cheap compared to the stylists in the Bay Area.

The only reason I wanted to come here was because I was given a gift card. I came her after months of wanting to cut my hair. I wanted a more layered look than I already had in addition to side swept bangs. I had not had any stylist besides one in SJ achieve them for me so I was excited that Strands might be able to.
After Unilocaling, I booked an appointment with Jeannette. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. She was working on me and another person at the same time. She would go back and forth between us. And mentioned that I was not a Diva for not complaining about it.
I came in at 11 and left at 12:45pm, FOR A HAIRCUT. I left with the worst bangs ever and 3 half attempted curls. I had half of what is bangs. When she was cutting them she kept asking me if I wanted her to go further back on them. I told her to do what she thought was best, after all she was the professional. And I left with the same haircut, minus the worst bangs I have ever had, that I had come in with. Since she had been working with on two people at once, she did not have enough time to style my hair but that did not stop her from trying.
I have silky hair that takes time to style so she tried to give me curls but I left with only 3 sections curled because she ran out of time before I had to leave.
I gave them two stars for the great service the receptionist gave me. I wish I knew her name.

I had a hair cut today from Janette. She was really nice and I was nervous so she gave me a glass of wine! I was donating my hair to locks of love so I only paid 25 dollar which was a pretty good deal for a shampoo and cut and it went to a good cause. The salon smelled really good also, Not like burnt hair and chemicals.

Joy is awesome! I live in Vacaville but drive to Davis because Joy does such a great job. And you can always bet on an Aveda salon having well trained professionals and better products that are easier on your hair. The prices are a bit high but you get what you pay for.
Parking is a gamble as it is downtown Davis and their restroom has room for improvement. I would recommend Joy to others.

Hair stylist didn’t come across as very professional. She was in tears b/​c apparently she had a snobby client before me. it was an uncomfortable and trying experience. Eventually she gave up because she couldn’t seem to get what I wanted (a layery hair cut) and eventually passed on the job to someone else.
Wouldn’t go here again.
