Davis Pole Dance Studio

I have been to several studios now and you will NOT find a BETTER DEAL, a more FUN and LAID BACK place than this. This is also the only studio (thus far) where men are regular students, and that’s awesome. The only downside is the floor is not always very clean. But I am in love with how I get to make friends, experiment new moves with the teachers and laugh. That’s why students come back. And you learn lots! If you know the moves just ask the Teach for a new one!

You BASICALLY come in, stretch, wipe down the area, and start becoming besties with your pole!
This was my first time here and the idea of dropping in for a pole dance class seemed appealing. It is $ 10 if you’re going for one session or 6 days for $ 30. $ 50 per month if you want to take progressive classes (advanced).
The thing about being in Davis is that parking is very limited and the studio is a little tricky to find. It is located in the back and the way to access the studio is to go through an alley or around the building– I asked a local merchant to save time.
It is a pretty small dance area with only 6 poles — not very well ventilated as well. I understand that staffs may not have the time to wipe the floors but it bothers me to be exercising or working out on greasy sweated floors. Perhaps this was only a $ 10 class which is why it might have been out of their convenience to do so.
My instructor was OK. She was good at demonstrating dance moves but lacked informative techniques for beginners. We all learn at a different pace and felt that she was lacking PASSION for the group and wasn’t thorough enough.
The purpose of this class is to slowly BUILD strength, learn to control your own body, and most importantly learn to be comfortably CONFIDENT. Sadly, I don’t feel confident that I’ll be returning to this studio.

I went here two years ago and really enjoyed it. The instructor was very nice and helpful. However, when I came back last week it was a new instructor. She was over 15 min late, didn’t apologize, didn’t introduce herself and didn’t help anyone except the one experienced girl (me and the other 3 were beginners). There was dog hair all over the floor, suggesting the floor is never ever cleaned. And then quickly kicked us out so the next class could come in.

The class was supposed to start at 6pm but the instructor was late 15 minutes yet the class still ended at 7pm. We were still charged $ 10. No intro to who the instructor was at all. The first thing she said was 100 crunches. The floor of the studio was covered in dog hair even though 6pm was the first class on Monday which implies to me that cleaning isn’t done very often or at all. The class itself was alright. Would’ve been better if the instructor was more helpful and spotted us. Disappointed since the other reviews all had good things to say.

My coworkers and I randomly decided to try a drop in pole dancing class as a bonding experience. And there’s nothing like matching pole burns and pole bruises in awkward areas that’ll bring you closer together. We definitely made it a weekly thing for awhile and even tried to do a progressive class.
We definitely enjoyed Taryn’s teaching, she knows how to adjust to everyone’s different levels very well. The trick to good pole fitness is a strong core and flexibility would help too. I’ve only been to a good handful of drop in classes cuz I never had time for a progressive class. But the progressive class, basically you build on your skills each week and the instructor will work with you to improve in your pole skills. My friend did it as a group and it was very worth their money because you can attend any of the drop in classes in addition to your progressive class. I found that with drop in classes, it’s hard for the instructors to gage what you already know and don’t know, so you could just be learning the same easy tricks over and over again.
My only gripe about this place is that it’s very small with 6 poles crammed in it. It also gets really warm and hot and I feel the floor gets very dirty and could use a Swifter jet every once in awhile. I want to possibly visit the Sac location to see if it’s any cleaner. I think cleanliness is my biggest issue because I don’t enjoy personally sweeping the dusty bunnies off the floor with my sweaty body.

I LOVE Davis Pole Dance Studio. This was my first pole dancing class so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it was a memorable experience. They have classes for beginner, intermediate, and advanced. My friend and I took the beginner class, and I’m so glad I took it! The instructor was warm, and welcoming to everyone which made all the beginners feel comfortable.
It’s $ 5 for an hour for drop in classes.

Holy spaghetti arms!!! It’s one day after a class, and I can barely walk or lift my water bottle. The intermediate and advanced students make it look so easy! Anyone no matter your shape or size can learn pole dancing– it’s such a great workout, builds core strength, and will definitely develop your upper body even if you didn’t think that was possible.
I still have a long way to go before I complete a spin or even think about doing an inversion, but the instructor and fellow students were very encouraging and didn’t judge my novice moves. We began with a simple warm-​up followed by instruction. Everyone was in their own world practicing fireman spins, martini spins, Gemini’s, inversions… I’m in awe of how many different moves you can learn (
). If you have limitations or hardware in your extremities (like say a bar and screws in your fibula and ankle) the instructor can work with you and suggest modifications so you can still benefit from the class.
The space can be hard to find, if you don’t know where you’re going, but walk down the alley between Chipotle and Peet’s coffee, turn left at the end of the Chipotle building, and walk until you either see the sign or all the girls in active wear waiting outside. There’s a $ 5 drop-​in fee for a one hour class, and if you start a card your 10^th class is free! The space may look small, but with 6 poles there’s plenty of room for 2 – 3 people per pole. I would definitely go again with my girlfriends and can’t wait to check out the Sacramento location. Uh oh my arms and hands are now cramping up. Time to ice my new found muscles…

Wow, this pole dancing class is amazing!
So Taryn is the instructor, and she’s amazing. She’s accommodating to both beginners and advanced students. It’s very relaxed, and she’s very outgoing and provides easy instructions!
This is a great workout. I can’t do half of the things she showed us. She begins the class with warm ups — so it’s a lot of core workout, backbends and stretches. I am not very flexible either. We also do inversions (handstands) as warm ups. Then we progress to the pole dancing part, and she does the inversion pole dancing moves as well. So this really works your core and your entire body! Great class for $ 5.
There are only 6 poles, and there only happen to be 6 of us too. So it worked out!
I want to list some key points of this studio:
–No restroom
–No changing room: so come dressed and prepared (lots of people wear sport bra and booty shorts — or you can wear a tight fitting top and booty shorts).
–this location is very hidden. It is on E street but not the main E street, so you won’t see it while driving. It’s in an alley way. It’s pretty much behind De Vere’s, so you go through a creepy alley way and once you see an art gallery, it’s across from there. I got lost getting here. :(
–They provide you with some «lotion» that helps with your grip for your hand. DO NOT LOTION UP or else you’ll be sliding everywhere.
–It will be painful the first time, your thighs are going to burn and it’s going to hurt.
I am going to come back again. Love it! I am going to check out the Sacramento class as well!

Went to my first drop in class yesterday! It’s only $ 5! And if you get a punch card, your 10^th visit will be free :)
I came with my friend Annie H. It was led by the instructor Taryn. We started off with a little bit of conditioning. We did wall sits while introducing ourselves to everyone. Then we did some ab workouts. There were 6 poles and about 15 girls, I’d say? So we had about 2 – 3 people per pole. After conditioning, Taryn went straight into complicated stuff. It was a bit overwhelming: P
Thank goodness Annie H. is a freaking pro! She taught me the basics, like how to climb the pole and what not.
Tip: Wear booty shorts and do NOT lotion up.
I am definitely going back. I want to get the moves down! So great for upper body strength and core building!

Today was my second time going to one of their classes, and it was great! Granted the studio is on the small side, but it really doesn’t matter since the class sizes aren’t exactly huge. My first class I had to share a pole, but today we each had our own, so I guess it depends on the day. The instructors are talented, knowledgeable, and very encouraging. I’m not flexible or very talented when it comes to any kind of dancing, but I still felt accomplished today as I left thanks to the instructor’s positive criticism and the encouragement and helpful hints of the other students. I love that it is only 5 $ a class, and they have a card where you can pay for 10 classes and you get one free! So I have nothing but good things to say about this studio, not to mention it’s such a fun experience!

Davis got so much sluttier when this place opened up… jk. lol, its a great addition, really random but cool place to have in downtown Davis! I came in as a complete beginner but the classes are geared towards beginners as well as experienced. You’ll get a great upper body and abdominal workout regardless and have fun! It’s only 5 bucks for a drop in class. If the class is too large you might have to share a pole (there are 6 poles in the room). Recommendations: wear booty shorts, no pants or leggings so your thighs can better grip onto the pole! Both of the classes I took here I learned totally different tricks and material, and instructors are great.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or an advanced pole dancer, this is a great studio where you can learn and improve at your own pace. All of the teachers are skillful and each has their own particular style; I especially enjoy Taryn’s fitness-​focused, self-​challenging approach.
The Davis studio is less spacious than their Sacramento location, so it can feel a little cramped at times, but the quality of instruction is excellent.

I’m a guy and come to classes here at least twice a week. It’s awesome. Taryn is the best teacher. She really helps you learn at your own pace and will give you moves to help you progress on an individual basis rather than urge you to keep going at the pace of the class, even if the class pace doesn’t fit your needs. It is true that classes can get crowded, which is a testament to the popularity. Also true is that the floor can be kinda dirty sometimes… but that says more about the management than it does the teachers – the management is supposed to take care of upkeep and maintenance and they’re based in sacramento. They also offer two pole dance competitions at their sacramento location during the year. It’s free to join and it’s a really supportive environment. Winners get free classes and all participants get some kind of prize (in February it was a bunch of kooky socks… though they were women’s socks. My Hubby and I were the only men.) And if any guys out there are interested, don’t be scared!!! There are frequently other guys in class and according to Taryn, guys have an easier time doing a lot of pole dance movement because of our body composition! Come! Join!!! It’s fun and a great workout!!!

I have been pole dancing for about a year or so. I moved here wanted to keep taking classes. I really like this studio and I would recommend it.
Pros:
1) Cheap. There are a few options for classes. You can do $ 5 drop in classes, purchase a 10 class card, or go to a progressive class and then you can go to drop ins for free.
2) The instructors are very knowledgeable and you can learn very quickly.
Cons:
1) I have noticed the floor is usually kind of dirty. Not the cleanest studio I’ve been to.
2) The studio is quite small. I think that the 6 poles in the small studio is a bit unsafe.

So this is literally my favorite place in Davis and Sacramento. I go at least three times a week and its been an amazing experience. I went from having arms of jello and not being able to do a climb to being able to support my full body in an invert.
The teachers are all super friendly, its a wonderful environment (no mirrors so no worrying about how you look and more focus on the exercise) and there’s always something new to learn. They can teach different levels so if you’re like me and can only make beginners classes during the week, they’ll give more advanced stuff to do so that you still get in a good workout.
The store in Sacramento has great deals on shoes, lingerie, corsets, and apparel. I have attended classes at both studios and love both of them. The sacramento one is the bigger of the two having 9 or 10 poles.
