History

Established in 2008.

Monkee’s® started as a small dream in the coastal town of Wilmington, NC but has since grown beyond our wildest expectations. Each Monkee’s store is held up to high expectations in customer service and quality, but each location has it’s own personality. Whether you are in the mountains, or at the sea you will be greeted with a welcoming smile. And though some of our favorite items and designers can be found at multiple stores, each owner has her own flare for style and can carry a wide range of varying labels.

Business Owner

Frustrated by impersonal department store shopping and driven by a love of shoes, Sandy Bowers decided to open Monkee’s of Lake Norman in Davidson, a town she has called home since 2002.

An accomplished business woman, Sandy was honored by Athena International in 2012 as a Leadership Award finalist. Monkee’s of Lake Norman won a coveted Charlotte Magazine Best of the Best award in 2011, and Business Leader Media named Sandy a Women Extraordinaire.

She has been honored by Monkee’s corporate as well, named store owner of the year in 2011. Sandy was also given the circle of excellence award that year for owning one of the top four stores in the chain. Sandy was also named one of the five most stylish people in Charlotte by Charlotte Style Magazine.

She is active in a variety of charitable organizations, especially the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Her work on the Light the Night campaign holds special meaning, as Sandy was 12 years old when she lost her mother to leukemia.
