Our unique and entertaining tours are a must see. Our two restaurants are known for the most delicious foods. Tasty, romantic, elegants and memorable all describe our Latil’s Landing Restaurant. We have been named the best location for weddings and receptions in Louisiana. Our Gardens set the stage for a beautiful garden wedding. Our specially designed Ballroom create the venue for that perfect reception. The Honeymoon Cottage is historic and romantic.

History

Established in 1770.

Alexander Latil purchased the property from the Houmas Indians in 1770 and built the French House. Wade Hampton purchased the property in 1812 and began the construction of the Mansion or Big House. Altered and completed in 1828, Houmas House became the largest sugar plantation in the world in 1863. John Burnside is known for his lavish parties and entertaining at Houmas House. Tours began in 1867 and the Gardens are as well known as is the Historic Structure. Two great restaurants, and two Ballrooms for Weddings have created this fantasy land. Educational our entertaining, Houmas House is known as the must see plantaion in the South, the Crown Jewel of Louisiana’s Great River Road.
