This establishment is now called the Darrington Motor Inn. Based on the one earlier Unilocal review and the earlier reviews on other review sites, this was a good place back when it was the Stagecoach and had different owners. Whatever it was in the past, it’s a total dump now. Not only is it a dump(for example: minimally clean, smelly, grounds are a disaster, broken screen door, people are clearly living there, etc.), the lady who manages it onsite(I don’t know if she’s the owner or just manages it) is cartoonishly horrible, to the point of being almost funny. For example: When our TV wouldn’t turn on, my boyfriend went to the front desk to ring the manager. She came to the room, took the remotes, pressed some buttons, and started yelling. Manager: «CUSTOMERONLYTOUCHCHANNEL! CUSTOMERTOUCHTOOMUCH!» BF: «We just tried to turn it on, with the power button. It won’t turn on.» Manager: «CUSTOMERTOOMUCH! ONLYCHANNEL!» Manager commences pressing buttons and poking at the TV screen, with the occasional outburst of «CUSTOMER! CUSTOMERTOOMUCH!». Finally, she gives up and yells, «I GET A… A… GOGET A…» Boyfriend, helpfully: «A hammer?» Manager: «YES! I GETHAMMER!» and left. Unfortunately, she did not come back with a hammer, but with the TV instruction manual, which she tossed at us and left, with more mumble/yells about CUSTOMER! Other recent reviews on other review sites talk about terrible service and conditions as well. Fortunately we just walked in and didn’t make a reservation so didn’t have to deal with the reservation debacle that others have complained about. Don’t stay here. If you’re too tired to keep driving, you’re better off pulling over and sleeping in your vehicle.

This place was such a gem of a find after coming out of the backcountry of the North Cascades and — fingers crossed — hoping for a reasonable place to stay. The rooms are very affordable; simple and nice. We stepped out onto our little deck to stunning views! The real charm, though, came from the owner who made us waffles with home made strawberry-rhubarb jam for breakfast. This little stop way exceeded our expectations. Perhaps topped by the stop off at the nearby Red Tavern… Wowsers!
