In getting right to the point, my younger & wiser brother referred me to Markrover Hunting preserve via a Client of his. My brother & I including friends have been going to Markover on & off for a few years now and I have to admit that this Preserve is like Family. You are also treated like family. We have enjoyed every outing to the max every single time. Safety is priority one, the Guides are absolutely awesome & real friendly always willing to oblige. In some cases we did not have a dog, a guide and a well trained dog was supplied and was always stupendous each & every time with 100% consistency. We always managed to fill our limit.(Of course it helps to be good shooters, which is also good for the dog). In short, I recommend this preserve to anyone. Do not hesitate, go for it & enjoy life. Sincerely; Anthony J. Hamboyan Burlington, MA. PS: we just scheduled aother guided hunt for 11−29−15 and looking forward to an awesome time.

I hunted at Markover with two friends and our dogs today. Guides are required, and our guide Erik was friendly, knowledgeable, and did a great job leading our hunt through two different parts of the property. The property offered varying terrain and provides a good opportunity to hunt with a young or seasoned dog alike(they do make their own dogs available for those without, but also encourage bringing your own trained dog, which is great). Overall it was a great experience at a reasonable price. I will definitely return.

Just got back from a hunt with them and I had to comment. Having been to several different preserves in Ct, they by FAR do the best job and have the best terrain and cover! The guides are very professional and courteous. They went out of their way to help break in a young dog. Birds flushed great, highly recommend them over other alternatives in the area.

This review is not going to help my already poor standing with PETA, but here it is. Bird hunting is fun. Bird hunting on a great farm/preserve run by some great people is awesome. As a Christmas present, my boyfriend’s sister and her husband took us to Markover for pheasant hunting. Her husband used to go to this place every year with his father and two brothers from the age of 10 up to the age of 19 when his father passed away. He wanted to bring back this old tradition, and we were the first to be brought in for its revival. They purchased 18 pheasants. They originally wanted to purchase some Chukars too as a challenge, but they said they didn’t have any good ones there that day. You bring your guns(we had two 20 gauges and a 12) and your orange hats and vests. They set you up with a guide, a dog, and then you are off hunting on 400+ acres of fields, forests, and brush. If you have your own dog you can bring it too. It is a family owned business that has been going for years, and that has become a tradition for many. Some of the guys we saw there said they had been going there every year since 1975. We got there at 8:30 in the morning. They had coffee and donuts and the three guides were talking to us while prepping or waiting for their parties to arrive. As the parties arrived we all sat around on chairs on the porch or within the main area of this beautiful cabin/lodge. We met our guide, Bob, and our dog(which was his), an amazing pointer named Lilly. My boyfriend and his brother-in-law had been hunting before, but his sister and I had never been. We have both been out to shoot clays, but never game. We were very nervous and timid at first(I think we were nervous about someone getting Dick Cheney’d), but our guide really was the best. The first 5 birds we flushed out we missed, but he just kept encouraging us and relaxing us with his stories and jokes while we walked around looking for the next bird. Our first outing we got 6 of the 9. Our second outing we got 8 of 9. He really did make us feel more comfortable and we had so much fun with him. He even had us use one of his beautiful guns. He had a 12 gauge(his truck gun), which he insisted we use instead of one of the other 20 gauge guns we had. Bob was just a great guy and his dog, Lilly, was just phenomenal! She pointed, she flushed, she’d retrieve the birds, and be right after another one for you. All of the guides were super nice. During our break between outings, the other parties and guides, as well as the owner, were also back at the lodge. We all talked together, drank coffee, and ate chips and our snacks. It was just a good time. When it was all over we got pictures taken of us together with all the birds we shot during the day. We all had a beer with our guide before we left too. All of the birds you got that were in good shape, you could trade in for pre-dressed, frozen ones. We took home a dozen. We lost 2 because they were shot at relatively close range, and there was nothing left. A really good deal though. It was a great day and we are already planning a return trip. They also informed us that you can do overnight hunting trips. You can hunt all day and then for $ 50 a person you can stay in the beautiful cabin/lodge they have. The cabin has a grill, a full kitchen, fireplace, and sleeps ten people. It’s spacious and just amazing on the inside. My boyfriend cannot wait to plan a trip out there with his buddies. They have equipment for clays, however, I guess they don’t do it as often anymore because the surrounding houses were complaining. I think that if you are there for the entire day though, that they let you have a session or two of those interweaved in with your hunting. If this is your type of thing, this is a great place to do it. If this is your first time, this is a great place to learn it.
