Logee’s Greenhouses

Super helpful, no strings attached!!! Very knowledgeable and make it easy for a novice like me. I just got off the phone with someone after looking desperately for help with a bunch of little citrus trees that I brought back from Florida last year. They suddenly flowered in NJ in the kitchen in the winter! Help… enter the person at Logee’s who answered and was so kind and told me what I needed to do to pollenate and take care of my little plants. It might sound silly to you, but there was NO reason for this person to have to go this extra mile for me. I saw them on a blog and just tried my luck and for no personal gain they gave me the perfect help I needed. Thank you so much for that!

This place is great. So many exotic plants. You get a map when you go in, then you go through all the greenhouses. I bought an Agave plant, and a unique pot, and they potted it for me with their soil (promix) and sand. Very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

There is simply NO PLACE like logees. I had been a mail order customer and the plants have always been heathy. I had also seen logees on the Martha Stewart show and had wanted to visit for years. Being that they are pretty far from me in NYC – the three hour drive had been daunting for years and I just never got to go… until
Recently driving home from a business trip I was in the general vicinity and had to of course stop by.
One step into logees and you quickly are taken away to another world. There is really nothing like it. It is so incredible that a non plant loving friend of mine who was with me asked in all seriousness, where do we pay for admission? I simply can’t say enough as to how beautiful logees is, and I am dying to go back!

Just want to add that my plant that I bought here died a few weeks after I bought it.

They spent over an hour showing us around the greenhouses, letting us taste some of the edible varieties, and making recommendations for raising our new purchases. Fantastic service and an incredible cool place!

Incredibly helpful people. Loved the place. While the greenhouse is congested, it is a treasure trove! They have beautiful plants. I got some plants from them. They gave me advice as to how to take care of it and were helpful. They give potting mix for free if you buy pots there. The staff was kind enough to actually pot my plants for me. Great staff. Always smiling and extremely helpful. My plants that I got about a month ago are thriving! I will definitely make a trip again.

Ordered on-​line during winter. Plants arrived dormant (they offer several options on shipping dates) and very well packed. Called customer service with questions that were answered by very well trained staff. Great selections of plants I can’t purchase locally. Have ordered from Logee’s several times over the years and they are always consistent in providing quality plants, packaging and customer service. Highly recommend.

This place is amazing! They have so many neat plants and flowers, Its a great little field trip while waiting for the weather to break!

Never again! I ordered thru the internet. Plants were shipped when it was still way too cold. They arrived half dead and have never recovered. Next to no root system. Way too expensive for the poor quality.

Goodness gracious. I can not get enough of this place. This was my second visit today. It ended with a purchase of six new plants and a happy acceptance of some advice I received from the friendly older gentleman watering the plants with adoring care.

I ordered plants online and I am very pleased with them. They are beautiful and healthy. Logee’s is also very helpful with any questions.

This is as close to heaven as you can get in the cold snowy winter. The tropical plants are amazing, the greenhouses are tight but filled with green. The smell of warm, humid, blooming wonders is amazing.
They have a 100 year old lemon tree with lemons the size of baseballs. You have to squeeze by some plants as you enjoy the wonders of many greenhouses. All plants have a sign and tell you how to grow them. If not… ask, the staff is pretty good, you might even get the owners to help you.
Most of the plants sold at the greenhouse are small, but that keeps the price down (a little) and they will even repot them in a 4″ pot with their «special’ soil for free. (Well you have to buy the pot) I would recommend researching what you want at their web page which is also full of info. Also unless you have endless pockets, keep to your list or you might buy more then you thought… it can be addicting.
You have to visit the store… period. Words seriously cant explain this place. I could go there and just relax, take some deep breaths, and all my troubles go away.
After I spend all that money on these plants and taking them home, the challenge begins. Keeping them alive is the hard part. I dont live in a greenhouse or in a tropical place, so that is the only frustrating part. Although my wife believes I kill them on purpose just so I can go back…
My brother and I enjoy going here all the time and we make it a good time and get some beautiful plants. Hope to go back soon.

I love this place! Its like a jungle haha. If you are looking for exotic plants this is the way to go.

I don’t have a green thumb, but I like to pretend I do. Perhaps it’s more of a chartreuse thumb. I adore tropical flowers that transport you to far away places with one whiff on a hot summer day. And I can get these at Logee’s to my heart’s content because they ship plants and although the shipping is not cheap, they have regular sales on even the more exotic stuff.
But I’ve been there once. I may never look at other nurseries the same again. Logee’s is paradise. The very best greenhouse I have stepped foot in. I never lived near there, but a couple years back my friend and I braved a Noreaster in April because I was intent on getting to planter’s paradise. Come hell, high water or Noreaster, I was going to get to Logee’s.
And it was everything I ever hoped for. The greenhouses are utter perfection. The plants are all stunning, vibrant and and there are varieties upon varieties, many rare and exotic plants too. Show pieces are sprinkled throughout to tempt you into believing that you, too, are capable of growing your new plant so that it may win a trophy. They have the regular stuff, annuals, perennials, veggies and herbs and if I lived close to here I’d buy them here, but these days I get these from my local nurseries. But like I said, shop at Logee’s and they ruin you for even the best of the best nurseries. There is just no comparison.
For example:
Thinking you love jasmine? Do you realize there are many varieties of it? At Logee’s you will find Maid of Orleans, Night Blooming, French Perfume and Poet’s Jasmine, to name a bunch.
Know what Brugmansia is? Maybe you know it by its more common name: Angel’s Trumpet. But Angel’s Trumpet is just one type of Brugmansia and Logee’s has the more unusual pinks, yellows and coral varieties that you probably won’t find in your local nursery.
Passiflora… my favorite floral vine, with their vibrant colors (I prefer the jewel tones, but they have light colors and white) and lightly perfumed and fruity scent. Some varieties do fruit. Some are even winter hardy to zone ⁶⁄₇.
Got a question about your new fragile (unless you live in a warm climate) Bouganvillea? Logee’s will help you out. They have a blog, but you can call with questions. They also give you care instructions, but you can find the answer to most simple questions (light, water, soil) on their website.

In the past I’ve ordered everything from Brugmansia (toxic to cats, so if you bring it in during the winter, keep it out of paws’ reach) to Fragrant Bouvardia and as long as I kept up the care properly, the plants flowered when they were supposed to (unlike those poor flowers that Home Depot is selling us).
I think «gem» is an overrated word on Unilocal,but damn if Logee’s Greenhouse isn’t just that.

I have never been to a better plant store! I should say botanical garden!

My comments are restricted to their mail order service. I purchased three tropicals from Logee’s last Spring. The plants lived out on our deck over the Summer. I was hopeful that spending the Winter inside would OK. So far the plants are happy inside. Two have flowered in the past month. Much better experience than I had expected but since many tropicals are under-​story plants it is possible that low light is natural for them. I ordered four more plants today for Spring delivery. Not cheap but it is my new hobby.

I have 2 happy new plants from Logee’s sitting in my window sill. I first heard about Logee’s from an appearance on Martha Stewart’s TV show. I immediately knew that I had to go there. Ordering plants on-​line is fun– you get to look at the great selection on-​line and it’s so exciting when the package comes to your door. But going to a greenhouse is so much more enjoyable.
When my friend and I pulled up we were a bit taken back since it looked like nothing. Simple front, plain box of a building. I at first though that the drive from Boston had been a mistake. But I was proven wrong when I got inside. From a plain storefront to a charming store to amazing greenhouses.
I suggest that the ladies leave their purses in the car and just carry your phone, camera, and CC. The aisles are sooo tight. I carried my bag in front of me because I was so worried about knocking into any of the plants that surrounded me. I loved everything that I got to see, be sure to take in the beauty of the greenhouse. Just about everything is covered in ivy and moss. Years and years off moss has given this place a loved feeling.
I asked the staff about a blueberry plant that I have at home now that does not seem to want to flower. She was helpful in getting me the right acid mix to add to the soil, which I can also add to the plants I was getting.
I can go on and on about the plants but I think you should see them for yourself. I got a key lime and a Meyer lemon– can’t wait to see how they grow, flower, and fruit!

It is an out-​of-​the-​way location. for much of connecticut’s population centers and certainly NY, MA, and RI. Nevertheless, the reviews online and in person were generally glowing. Worth the trip in short. Most people finished my sentence regarding my planned trip to a great little nursery that is a long drive but, «-Oh, Logee’s?!» — was the frequent interruption. With wonder, excitement and often followed by a self invitation to tag along.
I planned to make my first trip up on a day when there was chill in the air and snow on the ground; the better to enjoy the contrast of tropical plants and bone-​warming greenhouses.
I rang the phone at Logee’s and clicked throgh the phone menu to hours/​directions. Open til five. Good I could just make it and have 30 – 45 minutes to wander around.
We finally arrived to an empty lot and a window sign reading CLOSED.
I stepped up to the door to stretch my legs and at least have a peek inside. Closed.
As I returned to the car the saleswoman peeked her head out to say it aloud. «We’re closed.» Not, «sorry, we are closed» just «We are closed» as if to needlessly add insult to injury. No note of apology in the voice. So i countered with, «I called to check and was told you close today at 5pm so I got in car and drove 2 hours to visit.» The reply?
«It’s in the catalog» as in, the new adjusted hours were correct in our catalog. I told her about the duration of the drive and my phone call. She said, we are closed, i am counting my drawer, and the website is right as regards the schedule. I said, at least let me take a quick peek in one of the greenhouses. She hesitated and then gave me a slew of warnings, dangerous, growing dark, unattended, technically closed, etc. I said, be reasonable please let me take a 3 minute peek before i hop back in car for a sad 2 hour drive home. She relented.
If not for the otherwise glowing reviews of the place i would be certain now to never return. At this stage, i might try one day. might.
