History

Established in 1998.

Since Richard Giroux began operating this iconic marine center in 1998, the three marina properties have undergone major renovations to meet the needs of South Florida boaters. Thunderboat Marine continues to grow and enhance the amenities available to our boaters while maintaining competitive pricing on everything we offer. With dry boat storage at the three marina facilities, in-​water slips, full boat maintenance and repair services, daily boat rentals and on-​site boat sales, Thunderboat can truly offer the best expertise, price and value in the business.

My experience with dry storage at this marina has been below average. Sales pitch is convincing but after some time it becomes apparent that facility just meets the minimum standards, wash racks and parking are scarce, launching area is exposed to dangerously strong currents, channel access is shallow on low tide, security is lacking and there have been thefts, mistreated staff doesn’t show up for work leaving your boat stranded for days, customer service is very poor. The only positive is that it’s relatively cheap but you get what you pay for applies here.

Our family rented a 21 deck boat from Thunderboat Marine, the service was great & we have rented from this company 2 other times. The staff is always helpful on where to go & places to eat. The dock hand gives a great review of the waterways, but novices beware. For the price the boats are good, but don’t expect a new or luxury boat. We had a great day on the water, cruising around Fort Lauderdale, then stopped for lunch & we will rent again.

they told me to be careful with the boat because 80% of the people come back with damage on the boat. think about that 80%. we rented a boat for the day and slowly rode up and down the waterway because most is no wake and you cant go out to the ocean. really nothing to do. when we got back the guy lifting the boat out of the water says oh u hit something he was thirty feet away. we said no that was there when we got the boat. i asked to speak to the guy who initially checked the boat when we rented and conveniently he wanst there any more. so thats their trick run living social ads for cheap and then charge 80% of people any where from 250 to 1000 dollars for damage to the boat. never again.

This would be 5 stars if they had more boats for rent. Get yourself a groupon, or Unilocal check-​in 30% discount (Thank you!) or a living social coupon etc. They have some different size boats and you have to be careful running around our beautiful South Florida waters especially at low tide.
It will take you about 30 minutes to get to the Intercoastal and you’ll see many a mega yacht along the way, pretty cool!
Don’t expect to flying full speed much as many no wake & Manatee zones. Still it’s a beautiful ride.
If you’re into hitting the local food and watering holes and what Unilocaler wouldn’t? Then heading north on the Intercoastal will give better and more choices to pull up to the dock and chow down.
