Old Oak Restaurant Bar & Grill

I might be somewhat bias in my review, since I’ve been frequenting Old Oak for about 15 years now, but the food has had its ups and downs due to cook changes, but they have stood the test of time, for a great meal and a refreshing drink, This is the place to be!!! The people are friendly and robust, just the way any neighborhood joint should be. Come and enjoy my friends.

I came here for a very large private party, so filter my thoughts as you like. Old Oak is a traditional Portuguese restaurant and bar in Danbury. Pop in here on a weekend night and you will here more Portuguese being spoken than English. The waiters are Portuguese as well. The décor is very out of date, but it all kind of works here.
They serve the dishes in a traditional fashion — a large serving dish, filled with whatever you ordered plus a large spoon to ladle out your meal family style. It is very similar to a traditional Italian-​American restaurant. We have a variety of Portuguese white and red wines (can’t remember the names). The wines weren’t expensive, just very good. With French and Italian wines getting all of the airtime, people miss out on some really good wines that come out of Portugal. The entrees are fish-​heavy, lots of clams, lobster, various fishes, etc. I can’t eat fish, so I was able to get steak. True to form, I got a steak with 2 starches — homemade potato chips and rice. My meal was great, no complaints here.
This is a good spot to check out if you are looking to break the thai, Indian, sushi, etc restaurant cycle with something different.
