Offering drumming classes for adults through City Recreation Community Centers throughout Orange County.

Locations: Dana Point, Irvine, Laguna Hills, Tustin, Lake Forest and Laguna Beach.

Styles: World percussion or ethnic percussion including African, West African, Arabic, Middle Eastern (Egyptian, Lebanese, Turkish), Latin, drumming for dancers, belly dance drumming.

Instruments: Hand drums including djembe, dununs, tabla, derbekki, doumbek, frame drum, conga, and various drum styles from around the world.

History

Established in 1997.

George Medlock began his musical career in New England and has been teaching for over 15 years. He currently holds classes throughout Orange County, CA and directs drumming groups «Wassomba!» and his student group «Rhythms of the Desert.» A professional drum maker and musician for over 20 years, with degrees in Photography and Art History, research education in History, Middle Eastern music and West African music, Mr. Medlock’s performances, workshops, research and travel have taken him to five continents around the world.

As a drum manufacturer, Mr. Medlock has hand made ashikos, dununs, djembes, frame drums, Egyptian tabls and Turkish davuls. He worked for ten years as manager and head djembe technician for a leading drum company, facilitated drum circles, corporate team building circle, sponsored workshops and taught workshops in drum making and drum playing.

As percussionist, Mr. Medlock has worked with extensively with NAACP Gospel Choir, dancers and dance instructors in Middle Eastern, W. African, Yoga and Modern styles across the US, Europe & Egypt. He received an award of excellence from the Orange County Turkish American Association for his performances and work in preservation of a traditional art.

Mr. Medlock has published two CD’s: Sweet Fruits for Heavenly Hips (designed for Belly Dance teachers), and Ancient Secret Medieval Mystery Rhythms (an instructional for the advanced percussionist.)
