Business Owner

Dr. Houston has been practicing veterinary medicine since 2004 when she graduated from Colorado State University. She is originally from the deserts of Arizona and is still adjusting to the Oregon rain. She lives with four cats, one adorable Irish Terrier, two cute leopard geckos. Her husband, Shan, has been a wonderful addition to the clan. She was the head veterinarian for over 1500 alpacas just after graduation but then shifted gears to small and exotic animal medicine. She is excited to become the owner of the The Village Vet and looks forward to continuing her excellent client and patient care.

My doggie has Addison’s disease and I have spent the last year moving around. Village Vet is the best vet I have ever brought my dog to. They love your dog like family and everyone there is so amazing and friendly! They call after and before your appointment and they really sincerely care! I LOVE VILLAGE VET!!!

My wife brought our dog to this clinic and felt like she was overcharged for treatment. We knew our dog needed antibiotics for a scratch on her eye from playing with our cat. She felt guilted into taking pain medication for the dog after she questioned if it was truly necessary since the dog wasn’t and still hasn’t acted like she’s having pain. My wife refused the cone for our dog since our dog hasn’t been bothering her eye at all. We just feel frustrated that the appointment was still 127.51 for an appointment that should have been a prescription of eye drops.

Really great experience! It’s the first time almost 20 years I have had a pet, and wanted to do a Wellness Check along with get my puppy established long term with a vet. They took great care of my puppy and me. They took time to answer my questions, provided education and roomed us a little early to decrease my stress at exposing my puppy to other animals and I am sure helped my puppy as well. I highly recommend the. Vets!

very money hungry clinic. my puppy broke his leg. and needed his leg wrapped every week for 8 weeks. they charged me 275.00 for a wrap and literally charged me for things I did not need. I’m not sure what average family would be able to afford 275.00 a week for just a wrap x 8weeks. (not me) called around the next day a little worried because i truly love my pet like family and knowing I’m a single mother of 2 children could not afford what they wanted to charge. found a vet that was appauled on the cost the village was charging me and is now charging me 35.00 a week to wrap my puppies leg until healed. NO COMPASSION FOR THE CUSTOMER … And very money hungry

My pets have followed Dr. Houston from way back at another unnamed vet office. Since then, our Cowboy has passed to the rainbow bridge and I am currently loving two more dogs. I love Dr. Jamie Houston to pieces. My dogs adore her and we trust her above anyone else. The love and affection that she shows my babies is unmatchable anywhere, ever!!! I would never ever go anywhere else. I trust and rely on her to give me the answers and direction I need with my pups. As far as the staff… They are kind and patient and very good at what they do. I was so relieved when I found a Veterinarian Clinic to fix my small breed dogs broken leg. They managed his pain and took such good care of him. All my questions and concerns were answered and addressed. All the staff are kind and professional.

The Veterinarians here are awesome! The staff is well trained. It’s very personable there. They offer so many different options for quality: background on medication information, pet health insurance, Royal Canin food, and they even send out reminders for just about anything that has to do with the wellness of my fur-​babies. They always answer my questions when I ask and professionally and unbiased. They’re spendy but they make up for in taking care of my pets.

We recently got a new puppy, and this place came recommended — and I think we’ve found a great vet! The staff was warm and caring, and helped us, telling us about what to expect for our visits, what the puppy needed this visit, what would come soon, etc. We then met with Doctor Houston, who is probably the most pet-​centered veterinarian that we’ve ever met. She’s warm and caring, and was someone that I could instantly trust with our little boy.
On top of that, the visit was completely reasonable, price-​wise! After coming from big-​box store chain vets that helped our last dogs, we were expecting to pay probably triple what we were asked.
An awesome vet at reasonable prices — we hit the jackpot!

We took Growler for his first Vet visit. The staff was awesome! Everyone was very caring and made sure he was taken care of. Dr. Houston was the best! She really loved her patient and made sure to explain and listen to any concerns. We are very happy with our choice using this vet!

Issue: Getting Medicine Refills. My old dog has been on arthritis medicine for 3 years prescribed by Village Vet, every year I get an appointment card reminding me that they require blood work to refill. I went in looking for the same prescription and same dosage as previous years. (The cheapest I find the meds are $ 100 a month, filled by a pharmacy). Last year was difficult to get a written prescription and this year was much worse. They refused to give me the written prescription when I went in to pick it up. In all, I needed 3 separate appointments to get my dogs written prescription to take to the pharmacy. It was quite frustrating, especially since when I came home from vacation, my dog was running out over the weekend. After having had the blood work already done for the refill, and the pharmacy calling the vet for a refill with no luck, I walked in to the office. There were absolutely no customers in the facility at all. Instead of having me wait to have it written out, they required me to make an appointment to have another consultation! This was a friday, and my pet was long standing patient of theirs! When I expressed my frustration to the owner/​office manager/​veterinarian, there was no interest in the complaint and quite unwavering and cold. I mentioned that if 3 appointments for a medicine refill were the hoops required, then I would jump through their hoops and also leave Village Vet. Her comment? «Where do you want me to send the records?» How many ways can you have poor customer service? To make it more weird, late that night, the vet/​office manager/​owner decided to send me the records directly (against my wish), and put on the records for the next veterinarian to see «CLIENT FIRED». Before you choosing to go there, think about the personality involved when a customer says they are looking for a new vet because of the vet’s policy, and the vet decides to out rank the client by firing them after the client has already done it! I’m glad to be gone and not deal with those weird issues. I also don’t think that withholding an old dog’s pain medicine refill until the client comes in for 3 appointments is really ethical. In my book, that’s not really the best interest of the dog, is it? 1 appointment to get the blood work done and at the same time talking with the owner should have been enough to put the prescription on record for the customer to take!

I highly recommend The Village Vet. Dr. Houston was so kind and I could tell she genuinely cares. She took her time getting to know Copper and did his exam without him even realizing she was doing it. Bringing in an older pet can sometimes mean being prepared to hear news you don’t want to hear. Dr. Houston broke everything down with compassion and I greatly appreciate it. We were given a treatment plan before anything was done. This clinic has a very calm and small town feel to it, which is great for pets and owners anxiety when coming to the Vet. I appreciate all the staffs efforts.
