These days it is hard to find a contractor that you can trust to do a quality job in a timely manner for a fair price. MCP is one of those few that i would not hesitate to call on again to provide Chimney work or any masonry projects. Mike provided me an estimate on a rental property in Northern Va, for a 6ft Chimney repair and also a liner for my Chimney which is over 20 years old, i called 3 companies to get estimates, the first guy postponed the estimate 2 times, so that was it for him, the second company sent a guy who smelled like he hadnt bathed in a month, and i get it you work outside, its hot, but please clean up before you provide estimates, also his estimate was 750 dollars cheaper than any work i had ever had done on other properties, which didnt make much sense. Mike Mcp showed up on time and provided a fair estimate for the work, i have been doing this lonf enough to know the cheapest guy is not the best choice. So we got it scheduled, the work was top notch, so muh so i asked them to do a flagstone patio also. Roby and his crew did a custom job, the entire crew was proffesional and efficient, I would not hesitate to call MCP for any masonry, Chimney project i have to get done.

I just had MCP repoint my chimney, and I couldn’t be happier. Brandon Morris and crew were on time and very efficient. I will use them again if I need any work done on my chimneys. We have 4 working flu’s in the house, and MCP is my go to team. True professionals and they leave the work site very clean and in perfect condition. I give them my highest recommendation. Brandon went out of his way to make the project and my mortar problems perfect. He noticed some pointing that needed to be done on a wall adjacent the chimney, and he took care of that for while he was on the roof.

Brandon and his guys were friendly and did a great job. They took the time to go over everything with my wife and even went out of their way to do some extra power washing near the chimney on the siding to make everything look nice.
The work done was great and we are satisfied with all that we received. We won’t hesitate to use MCP again next time we need something done with our fireplace and/​or chimney!

I would give these people NEGATIVE stars if I could. I own a small rental unit managed by a management company. Earlier this year, they said the hearth in the unit needed to be replaced and sent me an estimate for $ 3,900. I thought it was high and said I would get my own mason to do it. The management company ignored my instructions and had MCP go ahead and do the work.
They cut directly into hard wood floors, leaving jagged edges that they neglected to seal. Now all the dust below the subfloor comes up and the tenants want it replaced! I spoke to a marble (yes, they put marble in a rental without asking) supplier and he told me the most expensive piece of marble for that size will not cost over $ 600. I got another contractor to give me an estimate for the work and he came back with $ 1,445 – marble included! this is less than half of what McP charged for work that was unacceptable and done incorrectly. So the marble cost them $ 600 and they did no more than 4 hours of work– for which I got charged $ 3,300. this is not right!

If you are interested in horrible customer service, then you should pick McP to do your Chimney work. Several months back, we had them quote converting our fireplace from gas into wood burning. They promised, on the contract, to get the job done by Christmas. They were schedule to come out for 3 days this week and suddenly, they scope of the job is bigger than quoted and will come at a significantly increased cost. In addition, they will not perform the work before the holidays as they promised. Mike, the owner, didn’t seem to care how it affected us and expected us to pick up the entire cost for his mistake. I would not use them and I will be sure to tell everyone I know not to use them as well. Ellen Myers

They built a stone outside fireplace and wall and I love the results. Their craftsmanship and attention to detail was great and met my expectations. They cleaned up well everyday and at the end. Owner had constant communication during the process

We had MCP replace our 3 story interior chimney and do interior stone work (mantel, hearth, etc.) in our townhouse. What a mistake. I would never use this company or recommend them to anyone. Overall, they are unprofessional and incompetent. I actually like the owner Mike as he seems like a straight shooter, but the people he has working for him are knuckleheads.
UNPROFESSIONAL:
Before the work started I didn’t even think to ask them about a building permit. My father (in building trades for 30 years) asked me after the work was completed if they had pulled a permit. I called Montgomery County Permitting Services if a permit is needed for this type of work and I was told it was. I had MCP out to fix something a few weeks later and my father happened to be at my house at the time. My father asked the MCP project lead if they pulled a permit and MCP said they were working off the original permit… from 1984. I’m sure that is legit.
INCOMPETENT:
While opening up the roof and installing the top sections of the chimney I had water leak into my top level ceiling. I told the onsite project lead and he said «yeah you might get that.» Maybe want to tell me ahead of time? They didn’t offer to paint over it. Given the quality of their work it was probably better I painted over it.
The biggest gripe was the quality of their stone work. We did a stack stone, which is supposed to look somewhat random. The fireplace is at a ⁴⁵⁄₁₃₅ degree angle between two walls. Instead of going all the way to the wall with the brick, they left an inch gap between the brick and wall. Their grand plan was to fill that in with quarter round painted the same color as the walls. They were able to do that above the hearth and it looked and still looks like crap. But at that point what are you going to do? Have them rip down all of the stone and start over, which is what they would have had to do. They were content to leave the giant gap beneath the hearth. I had them come and fix that and their suggestion was to put mortar in there more or less the same color as some of the stones. It looks like crap and something a homeowner would do on their own.
The switch for the fireplace blower isn’t flush with the wall. I asked the project lead to fix it and he said that’s how it is.
SLEAZY:
Several weeks after the installation I was in the backyard and noticed they had used a different color shingle where they had to replace a few shingles. I’m sure they figured I wouldn’t notice given the pitch of the roof. Come to find out after the fact that’s what «we had on the truck.» Sleazy. I had them come out to fix that and my father got on the roof to make sure they did it properly.
I couldn’t wait to get these guys out of my house. Even with the things still wrong with it I wouldn’t get these guys to come back and fix anything. I’ve had better quality work done on my house by a bunch of illegals who go door to door.

I first got connected with MCP when we needed a new chimney liner, damper and major repointing work. Mike came out, got up on the roof. and did a thorough inspection of a sadly neglected chimney.
That first job was big, but they were fair and did a great job of matching stone on the 90-​year-​old chimney. Because of that, we’ve had them back for two other, more straightforward masonry jobs, and they’ve been prompt, fairly priced, and true craftsmen.
