Crunch

I like this gym! I’ve been a member here ever since March 2015 I think.
It’s so convenient cause it’s near my house and has unlimited parking spots since it’s next to the mall. Whenever I work out, I’m always in the zone and it’s nice that on the wall it says «No Judgments Here». Sadly due to work, I have to go during peak hours, but it’s not so bad because I do end up getting the cardio machine that I want to do that day. EXCEPT on Mondays, there is way too many people who take forever on the cardio machines (treadmills, stair masters, and ellipticals). During peak hours, the weight areas are also crowded, and people usually take the barbells or dumbells that I want to use.
Classes: I usually do the party ride bike class. So fun and I think the instructors are really nice and push you hard (you’ll sweat a lot!). But of course it’s more important if you’re pushing yourself.
Cleanliness: Fair. It’s kind of hard to tell if it’s dirty since the floor is dark. Also, I always see the janitors cleaning the machines and what not.
At first I thought the price I’m paying is expensive, but thinking about it, the gym provides wi-​fi, towels, sauna, showers, machines, weights, classes; basically everything a gym needs. Not too bad! Plus, it’s worth it going 5 – 6 days a week.

Joined this gym about 2 years ago and overall I love it. However, recently I have noticed a dramatic decrease in the overall cleanliness and condition of the gym, most especially the locker room. They must have cut the cleaning crew in half or changed crews all together, because lately the locker room is dirty, towel bins overfull with dirty towels, broken sinks and soap dispensers, etc. They need to get back to whatever they were doing before, something has slipped.

Very disappointing to know the trainers are the most judgemental people at this gym. Very unprofessional. You will see them record and take pictures of people who aren’t their clients. The male trainers will ogle women and follow them around. They invade your personal space to train someone else like you aren’t there or like you aren’t a customer too. Its terrible. Even when there’s more room some where else!!! No etiquitte.
Its not as clean as it used to be, but getting better. At least the cleaning people are really nice. Make sure you thanks to the cleaning people.
Update, The following day @ 10:45am: Ambulance here. Member hurt under personal supervision of a trainer.

UPDATE
Since my last review in September things have improved greatly. At that time I also sent an email to the location manager and within a day Bianca (in charge of operations) responded. She is great. She took all my comments very seriously and got to work. What an improvement!!! We have a new cleaning crew that come earlier, the lockers are clean in the morning and there is progress on the cleanliness of the cardio machines… GO BIANCA!!! I really really appreciate your effort.

After quitting fitness 19, I came there and I loved it. Spoiler alert: you can deadlift. And they have a trap bar :)

The classes which are included are a great motivation — spinning is very good and they offer many classes during the week. Nice locker rooms with sauna, and great staff. I have tried 24 hour fitness and other gyms, and this is my favorite. Rather than just running on a treadmill or using machines, I can reserve a class space on my phone app the day before. These things keep me working out in the early morning almost every day, and enjoying it.
I especially like dealing with Jade Castro who originally helped us to sign up. Didn’t feel pressured, and after having gone to Crunch now for more than 6 months, he still helps when I have a question or need assistance with something… and he still treats me with as much attention as a new customer.

So I recently joined this gym to try it out since my cousin is a member I figured like why not.
As soon as I join, the manager is already trying to talk me into buying a personal training session. I was super hesitant so they threw in an additional free session (6 sessions total) along with a free month, and told me that if I didn’t like the personal training or didn’t have the time to keep it up, then I can cancel anytime and just get a refund back for the sessions I haven’t used. So of course I figured no big I can sign up and cancel anytime.
I just recently got a new job that wants me to relocate in two weeks and of course now the manager at the gym is telling me that I can’t have a refund for the sessions I won’t be using! When specifically that was the whole reason I signed up!
What a scam! No customer service at all!

Love working out at Crunch. This place has new sports equipment, clean, provide you towels when you need one, clean showers with blow dryer, shaver, shampoo and conditioner, cotton swab, etc. They have great workout schedules in the morning and in the evening from yoga to Zumba and Hip Hop Class. The company I work at provided me a great membership deal that includes Daly City and other cities from the bay area I can work out at from Crunch. They have great instructors for the workout class too! Plenty of parking spaces.
I prefer working out at Crunch in Daly City than the 24 Hour Fitness in Daly City. Crunch is spacious and clean with better and newer equipment than the ones from 24 Hour Fitness. I’d rather work out at a gym that is definitely spacious, clean, and with better and newer equipment to use.

Crunch is a great gym. It is fun, clean, spacious. There are towels for members and a DJ on Tuesdays. Andrei C. is a great Zumba instructor — he leads classes on Thursdays at 7:45 pm and Saturdays at 11:00 am. After being a member of Fitness USA and Bally Total Fitness, I really appreciate Crunch Gym’s culture of fun.
If you are interested in personal training at Crunch, then I recommend Albert Squires. Albert, a Level 3 Trainer, focuses on bringing balance to his clients.
When I started personal training, my goals were to learn how to use the machines at Crunch, kickstart my workout routine, and get back into a healthy lifestyle. Since working with Albert, I have gained two pounds of muscle and lost eleven pounds of body fat. More importantly, I am eating healthier, and I feel energized, fit, and comfortable in my own skin.
Here is an example of how Albert helps his clients find balance. A few years ago, my knees and left ankle started to hurt when I worked out. As a result, I stopped working out because I thought the pain was due to aging. My doctor looked at my ankle but he couldn’t help because his treatment options were surgery/​no surgery. Surprisingly, Albert had a fix. Albert explained that a lot of people become quad dominant when they do cardio and that puts a lot of pressure on knees. Therefore, Albert focused on exercises that strengthened my glutes because strong glutes take pressure off of knees, support good posture, and bring balance to the body. Albert also recommended fish oil, which reduces joint inflammation. After working with Albert, my knee pain is gone, my ankle better, and I can work out again.
I enjoy personal training with Albert because he keeps the exercises new and fun. I’ve tried machines and free weights that I normally would not on my own. Albert also pushes me harder than I would push myself. When the exercises start to feel easy, Albert adds more weight or a variation. For example, I remember when doing five push up’s was a big deal. Then, I could do three sets of ten push up’s. Now I do a variation, keeping my elbows close to my body. Not only is it fun to work with a trainer, I am seeing results — abs, toned arms — that I’ve never seen before.
On the surface, personal training with Albert is fun and enjoyable. Nonetheless, Albert quietly observes your movements and recommends corrective exercises. Weekly and bi-​weekly measurements and monthly goals keep clients on track to achieve their goals. Previously, I would not have believed these results possible for myself, so I recommend personal training with Albert to achieve your fitness goals.

I go here almost everyday because I don’t want a dad-​bod. The Brofessor alerted me to this dangerous cultural shift toward complacency in human form. Convenient fitness facilities like Crunch help us all in combating the dad bod. Don’t mean to leave out the ladies, but there hasn’t been much talk of the mom bod recently and I have a short cultural attention span.
Okay first off, free and abundant parking. Very tempting to give 5 stars just because of that in these dark times we are living in. Now I can proceed with my opining about this place.
1) It is well ventilated and generally quite clean. Occasionally the men’s locker room could use a little extra work but it isn’t an issue most of the time.
2) All the equipment are in good condition. I have yet to notice any glaring issues with the machines or the weights. I have seen them regularly maintain the cardio equipment as well, which is a good indicator of continued quality assurance.
3) I like how they have kettle bells and battle ropes. This area is also less crowded so if you are definitely going to be mirror blocked by some meat-​head in the other dumbbell rack, you can seek refuge here with the red dumbbell rack.
4) I appreciate the sanitary wipes and hand sanitizers in multiple locations.
5) The Front desk staff are cool and I haven’t had to wait in line just to check in like City Sports Club made me do on multiple occasions. I’m drugged up on pre-​workout and impatient when I hit the gym. It takes one second to scan my keychain Crunch tag and it’s a self service quickie thing to do. I appreciate that they see the logic in this too here, unlike City Sports Club.
6) I really like the ellipticals here. The range of motion is larger than ellipticals I have used anywhere else and it’s weird but I came back here missing the ellipticals lol. There are only 6 of them, but I just want to vote em up on Unilocal in case these reviews are looked over.
7) I took off one star because I agree with some of the other reviewers about the necessity of adding at least one more squat rack. There is only one real squat rack and with all the accusations over whether people lift or not based on squatting, it would be nice to have at least 2 squat racks. It’s a challenge due to the space but I see some possible swaps that can be made to put in one more squat rack.
Other than #7, this is a solid gym and I’ve been a happy member for years :)

I really like going to this gym. Staff are friendly and don’t push me to do personal training. There’s a DJ once in awhile and also free body fat testing. It can be a bit pricey with the $ 40 a month for membership but I think it’s worth it if you go everyday.

I felt the need to update my review on this place after praising it when I first became a member since they’ve opened. It’s sad to say, but the quality of the gym has gone down hill.
I loved this place because of how clean it was and that was my main reason for coming here. However, until recently since they’ve gotten rid of some of the cleaning crew and replaced them, the overall cleanliness has declined quick. This review is basically for the men’s locker room as I have no idea how things are in the women’s side. I’m there every morning and see how dirty the toilets are and the showers as well. The showers have pink soap scum in between the tiles and black mold as well. The sauna, which I use every morning has the same sticky floor and black grime in the middle of it for the last 3 weeks to a month. It hasn’t been cleaned for a while as the same garbage is still under the benches. The old crew used to hose it down and clean it with bleach, not anymore.
I had a lot of respect for the old cleaning crew but the new one on the men’s side I rarely see.
I’ve noticed they’ve added more people to the front desk and they’re all friendly and personable but I can see that the priority of management has become sales. When you need 3 – 4 people dolled up at the front desk to fold towels at times but still run out, your priorities are out of whack.
Anyways, I hope management does read this and I also hope this gym doesn’t end up becoming another 24 hour fitness.

I joined this gym about 3 weeks ago because my other gym changed their set up and it didn’t have a lot of privacy…
I initially wanted to join this gym a year ago because it is super close to my house, but the prices are too crazy for a job-​less young adult… But 3 weeks ago I got an email from Crunch offering $ 0 enrollment and how could I say no to a great opportunity?!
I came in and spoke to Jade Castro — awesome dude! He’s super friendly and knowledgable about what I was looking for and understanding. He basically sold me on the spot to sign up though I wasn’t fully 100% about committing. But it’s pretty cool that there’s a 5 day grace period for me to figure things out (IE: If I can quit my gym, just to test this gym out). Once I enrolled, Jade told me that I had a free session with a PT which I scheduled the next day.
I had Abree (I’m not sure if that’s how you spell it) but he was great! Friendly and pretty inspiring for promoting a healthier lifestyle. But unfortunately PT sessions are too expensive for me so I declined.
When I started to come here, I came after work (6:30PM) and BOY is the gym packed… Like every single machine is taken and there’s sooo many people that its kind of hard to follow your personal routine (if you have one) (-.5 star, it is expected, but just sucks!). So I started to gym at 6AM where it’s pretty empty and I usually always get to finish my routine :) But I find it pretty crazy that Thursday & Friday mornings are more busy then earlier in the week.
They have showers (5 for the ladies — 1 is for handicap) and a sauna which is pretty nice! Free towels are offered here too, so that’s pretty sweet! If you need to store your stuff, there are free lockers for you to use but you will have to bring your own lock to protect your valuables!
I have yet to try out the classes, because they seem like a ton of fun! I Just wish Antigravity Yoga was more available since its only during the day and I work M-​F 9 – 5 :(which is why -.5 stars for that.

Clean equipment, clean locker rooms, and a maintained shower and sauna. I’ve been to a few gyms in the area and crunch has been my latest venture. One thing I appreciate about the place is that the employees are pleasant. No attitudes, no blank stares, pretty much what you would expect from someone in customer service.
As for the people in the gym, people usually keep to themselves and actually workout. without hogging up equipment or having people there to work on jaw day (chitchat around equipment, without really using said equipment) this place has become my place to zone out.
DONT BE DISCOURAGED BY THE PRICE. Personally i think it’s well worth it for what you get and will keep you motivated to show up (at least for me)

I went to Crunch Fitness today on day 2 of my 5 day guest pass. Girl in the front gave me a «strong warning» not to keep going there without talking to a sales person about joining the gym. Well EXCUSE ME. It’s not my fault that your sales people aren’t around in the last 2 days, its not my fault that your people never called me. She literally told me I should come back in the afternoon. Then some bald employee walks up and says in a very snarky sarcastic manner «UH OH!»…
Frankly, whats the fucking use of a guest pass if I cant go in to use it to experience the gym. My first time inside was literally 24 hours ago but the lady treated me like I’ve been sneaking in for years, she didn’t even remember that I filled out the form the morning before, wtf? does she have face blindness or something??? she was like: «sorry but I cant keep letting you in if you don’t talk to someone, I have to give you a strong warning to not come in next time until that happens» ITS ONLY BEEN TWO F**** DAYS!!!
You know, Id rather be at my current gym, its dark, there’s no cellphone reception, its crowded and half the machines are broken, but at least they’re nice to me and i feel welcome there.

This gym is clean and has really nice equipment! Even the water from their water fountains taste cool and refreshing. Parking is also very spacious outside.
The thing that wowed me about Crunch was the amenities. The changing rooms have a sauna, complementary mouth wash and Q-​tips and communal hair dryers which I thought was fancy!

I joined this gym because this location is literally five minutes away from my house. The gym itself is really clean, there’s towel service, sauna, restroom with q-​tips, soap, mouthwash AND lotion! The shower is usually pretty empty unless you go at peak hours. The place is overall pretty spotless. I would see janitors walking back and forth wiping down machines after someone uses it. The classes this gym offer is simply amazing. I took the beach body class during the Spring session and Fiona was a great instructor! She will kick your ass and I highly recommend for anyone to take any of her classes.
So why the 2 star review? Three weeks ago, I was doing squats with the cattle bells. A trainer came up to me and corrected my position to prevent knee injury which I appreciated very much. He was kind enough to show me other workouts that would target certain areas. Things went south when he asked me how long have I been working out. I answered him and said about 5 months. He gave me the wrinkled forehead look and said «really? you look like you just stepped into the gym– there is no progress! By 2 – 3 months, you should see some result. But it doesn’t look like it to me.»
I was BEYOND shocked that he made those comments. I really didn’t know how to respond to that. He kept pressuring me to sign up for 10 sessions with him and he wouldn’t leave me alone until I gave him my phone number. He even checked at the spot to make sure that my number was real. I walked away and I was beyond upset because that was probably the most offensive thing anyone said to me in my life.
Not only that, but the trainer had the nerves to text me after business hours. We are talking about 10:00 PM! Which is unacceptable. What happened to business manners? I wrote an email to corporate and explained to them what happened. They got the trainer manager of the area to contact me. The manager apologized and investigated what happened. He tried to explain to me that me that the trainer’s first language is not English. Which I totally get but regardless of what the circumstance is, you should not make comments about someone’s body image because what if they were overweigh? Or they were going through some health issue that prevented them to work out? There are many factors that could play into it.
I am going to cancel my gym membership. I refuse to support a business that lacks professionalism and compassion for people.

*****ONGOING ISSUE with the RACKS************
I addressed the issue with management some time back but the problem is getting worst .They really need to add another Rack preferably another Power Rack… the Squat Rack and Power Rack are constantly being used, even off peak hours… there is space available so that really wouldn’t be a concern. So unless you want to make advanced reservations like you are having dinner at the French Laundry in Yountville or camping out like its black Friday at Best Buy be prepared to wait for the Squat and Power Racks

They offer multiple locations but depending on how many locations you want access to, gym membership prices will vary! This gym is really nice about giving guest passes to not only local residents, but also for those out of town!
Waiting area in front of the front desk has nice black couches and a white table with magazines for people to wait to be waited! Cute notepads to fill out guest pass forms.
The gym is basically a huge square block. All of their equipments are organized with cardio machines together, free weights together, assisted machines together, and etc. There are HUGE fans and great ventilation which provides for food air circulation!
A lot of good perks including the.

–big ropes to whip around like a farmer to workout arms and abs and upper body
–cute weights and dumbbells
–foam rollers for stretching
–TRX
–a punching bag
–towels
Pros:
–easy to get free 1 week guest passes
–a lot of available fitness classes including 4 different types of yoga!!! Oh man!
–almost never crowded! :O
–provides sanitary equipment wipes throughout the gym
–a small accessory store near the front
–cool way for counting weights
–play pretty good music so if you forget your earphones, it’s okay!
Cons:
–really expensive rates for membership
–no basketball court
–no actual space for floor mats for floor exercises. Gotta go to the back room or left end side of the gym to get individual mats
