If I could give Charles Gracie Jiu-​Jitsu academy more stars I would.
This academy is a great place to learn Jiu Jitsu, real good friendly folks train here. Clint Gerona the lead instructor knows when and how to push you to be the best Jiu Jitsu practitioner you can be. His instructions are concise and with each move shown he pays close attention to detail explaing the moves so that beginners can easily understand and perform the maneuver. The workouts are great (try the Tuesday evening workout). I guarantee you will come out of the class dripping in sweat (yeah that’s a good thing).
It’s great place for kids to learn Jiu Jitsu as well. The children in the classes appear to be having a good time. The instructors for the kids classes know how to motivate the children so that they stay interested and focused, while keeping it fun and healthy learning environment.
Above all else, this academy is clean. Everyone from black belt to white belt ensures that it stays that way.

What can i say and where do I start? Being female and getting into the world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu after years of boring workouts at the various gyms I’ve belonged to, I can honestly say being a part of Team Charles Gracie, Daly City has taught me a lot about myself. The hardest thing when coming into the world of BJJ is that the majority are males with shear size and strength. However, since joining Charles Gracie I’ve learned that size and strength is just a small percentage of what we use and 95% being mental. At 5′ tall and 120 something lbs and going up against guys 6′ 200+ lbs and being able to defend/​submit them is more than i can say. Although, rolling time may be hardcore, it’s all love and respect for the sport and of course one another. All I can say is every time I come in to train, I feel like a kid in a candy store. I love every minute of it. Every AM and PM classes are different and the camaraderie is amazing. Without each other there is no growing. So to all who have ever thought you could never do such a thing because of whatever reason, I challenge you to come join us on the mat and I guarantee there is nothing a good day of BJJ can’t cure…

I’ve been training here for about two years and earned my blue belt back in September of 08′. When I first came here, I had absolute 0 knowledge of BJJ (didn’t even know what it was other than faint memories of Royce) and since then have come a long way thanks to the instructors and my fellow students that came before me. Charles Gracie is a 6^th degree black belt and is the son of Robson Gracie who was the son of Carlos Gracie.
Charles has several academies in the Bay Area including the ones in SF and San Mateo but I’ll be talking mostly about the one in Daly City since it’s where I usually train at. The main instructor here is Clint Gerona and is a brown belt under Charles. In addition to his knowledge in BJJ, Clint also has a wrestling background and incorporates alot of it into his lessons, especially for the no-​gi classes. Clint also used to be a fitness trainer as well, so on top of wrestling and BJJ, he uses circuit training to improve your conditioning as part of the class. In other words, if you are looking for a place to lose weight, get in shape or learn self defense, look no further.
The class is structured with an emphasis on creating a family atmosphere as opposed to the kill-​all mma attitude you will usually find in other camps. But that is not to say we don’t have people that fight in mma, as Clint himself has some experience with that as well. We also have several women and police officers that attend our classes. this is a solid school. got my purple belt here and got my ass kickd by some tough dudes. charles is good guy and he has some solid black belts that are pretty tough. there is a solid crew of belts here and you’ll grow as long u train consistently. check it out.
