Williams Fireplaces and Gutters

Stay away. Stay far, far away.
My Mom is using Williams to re-​install her gutters. This should be a simple job, correct? Methinks not.
First, the complete payment was demanded in advance. This seems a bit excessive to me — especially since there didn’t seem to be any guarantees on the timing or quality of the job. Her attorney got her a partial refund from the charges, after Williams explained they had just been acquired and it was the new company’s policy.
The «new company» is a «national brand» but apparently, they just license locals to do the actual work. If you call their Dallas number from the website, it goes to some back office call center and they have to re-​route your call. This is quite annoying. Once you get the local Dallas number, nobody answers.
One team removed the old gutters just before we went on vacation at the end of April. Mom was assured everything could be done before we left town. Unfortunately, the old gutters came down and the new ones never went up.
Yesterday, almost two weeks after we returned from vacation, Williams called to announce the installers would arrive at 2pm. Just after 3pm, someone called my brother on his cell to announce they were on the way. At 4pm, they arrived.
The installers said they were «for Williams.» Since their truck had a completely different name (and a bilingual solicitation for more gutter installers), I assume they are not actually «from Williams», which is an important distinction.
This bothered me a lot. not because I don’t like subcontractors, but because the Williams website proudly talks about the badge they wear. Apparently, their installers don’t need no stinkin’ badges.
They reviewed the house from the diagrams, cut the gutters, and then just after 5pm, told me the brackets they had wouldn’t work with the house. Actually, one of the installers used his cell phone to translate what he was trying to say from Spanish to English for me. The installer screwed the bracket in, and then pulled it out (easily) with his hand. That actually explained it better.
I suppose at this point, I should give them some credit for not just installing gutters that the next slight rain would bring down, but then the credit would have to be taken back because they had no alternate plan. The brackets don’t work, so they stopped.
I mentioned that the previous gutters (the ones taken down before we left on vacation) were nailed to the roof. The installer said, «Nails. That might work.» They didn’t have any nails, so it wasn’t really an option.
They said they had to talk to their supervisor to discuss what to do. It’s now 11:15am the next morning, and we haven’t heard anything. I just called their main number, listened to a message about how professional they are, and then got routed to an extension with voice mail. When I pressed zero for Operator, the phone hung up.
The saga continues, but not for long. If somebody ever talks to me, I’m ready to just cancel the installation. This is beyond ridiculous.
Next time, I will just go find a truck with a bilingual solicitation for gutter installers and eliminate the middleman.

I gave this business 4 stars because of the great communication that project manager David gave me, and their low prices compared to other gutter companies (30−40% lower). Most gutters companies gave me a quote of more than $ 1000 (I called in about 3 – 4 companies to give quotes). Not sure how I found this company though, I forgot. But in the end I decided to go with them because of the price, and because David seemed like a responsible person.
I took one star off because our gutters installation got delayed for 3 times before it was done. But David will always take my call either immediately or he will certainly call back and try his best to communicate with the head office to find out what’s wrong and work with my questions.
I appreciate his help and communication tremendously and I will recommend to friends.
