What’s da Scoop?

Tried this today for the first time with our two little boys. Also it was our first time to Klyde Warren park too. Ordered a single scoop on a cup of cotton candy (which was just ok) and asked for an extra empty cup and spoon so we could split the scoop between our two boys. She said no problem and we paid. When they called our name to give us our order, the man working there refused to give me the extra cup unless we paid $.50 more for it. I thought he was joking, but obviously not. He refused and was very rude about it and even laughed at me. We will NEVER come here again and will gladly get dessert elsewhere where they aren’t so rude, which is pretty much anywhere. Thanks for putting a sour taste in our mouth!

$ 7+ for a very small sundae that pre-​pared and then frozen so deeply that it could not be eaten with a spoon.

Let me just start off by saying that I usually do not leave reviews unless they are very memorable and worthwhile in a positive way.
Unfortunately, this establishment left me with such an unmemorable experience that I have chosen to leave a review. I work in the local area and decided to go and try some of their ice cream. I walked about 5 blocks in 100 degree weather since they were one of the only places around to grab ice cream. After dripping with sweat I finally make it to the window at 3pm.
The gentleman informs me that he will not serve me any ice cream because they are «packing up» to do another event… yet on their webpage it says they are open until 10pm. I explained to him that I had walked all the way there in the heat and only wanted a scoop of ice cream to hold me off on my way back to work. He refused and didn’t care about even helping me. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE and I would not recommend this place to anyone. You are warned.

What’s da Scoop has been a frequent visitor of Klyde Warren even during the colder months. A colleague had mentioned getting ice cream from here recently so I decided that it was time to check this truck out especially with the recent sunny weather we’ve been having.
The line was a bit slow moving and it seemed like only 2 folks were in the truck — one person was taking orders and casually sauntering over to the pick up window to give out orders and another seemed to be doing prep work. The pricing is a bit steep even for quality ice cream. For $ 3.50+ I would rather just walk on over to the local CVS and just grab a pack of Magnum ice cream instead.
I ordered a very decadent chocolate ice cream whose name is escaping me at the moment. After paying, I noticed that my ice cream had already been scooped and had been sitting on the counter for a solid 3 minutes before it was handed to me. If it had been any order type of food, I’d be much more forgiving of the wait but for ice cream that was melting, not so much.
The ice cream itself was extremely creamy but it didn’t have that wow factor I was hoping to experience. Mixing a crunchy element in with the extreme creaminess of the ice cream would have really hit the spot. I know What’s da Scoop offers speciality ice creams but for $ 5+ a scoop, that’s just way too steep.
I wish I could say that I’ll be flocking to What’s da Scoop but I doubt that. It may be the only ice cream food truck at Klyde Warren but I’m not willing to drop upwards of $ 5 for ice cream that isn’t going to make my taste buds sing and do a happy dance.

It’s pricey and there are better ice cream spots. You are only paying for the location. I had the ultimate Oreo. The scoop was really small and $ 3.50 so we’re talking gelato prices but not as good

Food trucks are all the rage these days. They are actually a genius idea when you think about it! Some are good and some are bad. Luckily for me, What’s da Scoop is one of the best! Some folks think you can’t mess up chocolate but you can. Thank God What’s da Scoop didn’t. Even though it’s winter, I wanted chocolate and I wanted ice cream! I found both in the form of the most creamy, smooth, and perfectly sweet chocolate scoops nestled in a waffle cone! Even though I was focused on the chocolate, they did have other enticing flavors such as Fat Elvis, Superman (rainbow swirls), and Kitty Kitty Bang Bang! Signature sundaes like the John Dillinger (Pretzel Pieces, Vanilla Ice Cream, Sea Salt, Chocolate-​Peanut Butter Sauce & Whipped Cream) also peeked my interest. This means I will have to become a groupie to enjoy them all! You can find the truck at Klyde Warren most days but go to their website or follow them on Twitter for daily locations. If you follow them on Twitter, you will get $ 1 off a scoop!

I’ve seen this ice cream truck a lot (it’s very eye-​catching), and finally decided to try it with my sister. I heard from many people that this place was pretty pricey… and they weren’t wrong. I got two separate scoops in a waffle cone, and it was almost $ 10. O_​o The portions were big enough, so I wasn’t too upset.
Now for the ice cream – I got Kitty Kitty Bang Bang (cheesecake ice cream with raspberry and Oreos) and another flavor (I can’t remember the name). They were tasty, but not amazing. Even my sister thought it was «ok, nothing special.» Good ice cream, but that’s it. Just good.

stopped by the truck to get an ice cream but left with a root beer float instead. a scoop of ice cream is $ 3.50 I think? a little pricey in my opinion for just one scoop. went with the float because it was $ 5.
the size of the drink was pretty big. they even add whipped cream if you want it. as far as the drink goes, it was pretty good. I don’t know if you can really mess up putting a scoop of ice cream in a cup of root beer.
the only downside is the «pick up» method. you wait in line to order but they don’t take your name, you just hang around the «pick up» window and wait for them to call out your order. there were quite a few people waiting for their orders and I didn’t see anyone having issues getting theirs. but I felt awkward because I didn’t want to accidentally take someone else’s float if they ordered before me or have someone take mine that ordered after me.

Over priced and messy! This was the only food truck that had ice cream inside of klyde warren park.
I ordered the black magic. This was the worst in terms of messiness. It was a cone that they oozed nutella in, dark chocolate ice cream that looked black, topped with a drizzle of sea salt caramel and then they put whipped cream around the cone… Okay yeah it was already dripping and melting before I even had a chance to eat it! The whipped cream was just too much also as it was already melting too! Taste wasn’t that great either… There was nothing that stood out.
The other order was black and white. It was in a small clear cup. It has chocolate ice cream that was more true brown with whipped marshmallow, Oreo cookie crumbles and topped w whipped cream and a cherry. Again, not that great and already melting before we began to even eat it.
Both items were 6 $ a piece. For 6 $ each they could’ve tasted better and presentation could have been a lot better as well. Will not be returning…
The girls inside the truck were also not that friendly. I asked for extra spoons and one girl looked at the other as if she were irritated and then she told me to ask someone else!

Overpriced and unimaginative. So many exciting things happening in the world of ice cream and these guys do none of it.

The ice-​cream was FANTABULOUS and in my opinion the pricing isn’t too bad however, if you’re gonna be serving-​up ice-​cream it should be a law to serve it with a smile, lol! No… seriously, get some happy people on that truck :)

very good ice cream but damn it was pretty pricey. $ 3.25 for a scoop and $ 7 bucks for 2 scoops…
i should have just gotten the scoops rather than the sundae. i got the Annie sundae and it was good but not worth $ 7.50
ooh my fav flavor was kitty kitty bang bang, it’s cheesecake raspberry, so yum :)

I got the one of the specialty cones. Black Magic — Nutella Lined Waffle Cone, Zanzibar Ice Cream, Dulce De Lecha, Sea Salt, and top it off with whipped cream. It was delicious! Too bad I didn’t finish it. That cone was huge. It got too messy on a hot day. Good for you Chocolate Lovers!

I love the location of this truck. We went for a stroll in the park (Klyde Warren) after visiting the FREE art museum (DMA) across the street! I love Dallas! We ordered four items. Yes, it almost broke the bank but we were really paying for the convenience and homemade factor. We had fun looking at all the different DAILY flavors. It was a hard decision for all of us. We finally decided on Brownie Cascade, Rocky Road, Strawberry Cheesecake, and a Root Beer Float. Everyone of the ice creams were full of flavor, creamy, and better than any chain. I will even agree with another reviewer that it was better than Blue Bell. (Yes, I said it!) It makes a difference when there are no preservatives! Just sayin… Stop and have a dip or two… you will thank me later. I didn’t give it five stars because they were out of vanilla ice cream for the Root Beer Float, we choose chocolate, which was a pleasant surprise. The chocolate was to die for!

What’s da Scoop… loved it the first time not so much the second and my last. I am giving 2 stars for convenience, they came to the office building and I like the concept.
Note: If you’re serving ice cream to people who are at work, even if they order an overpriced specialty CONE an option to have it in a cup without the cone should be available for no additional fee. The service was slow at best and there was no friendliness. Sure you all were running late (traffic) and a storm was coming but still…
Also, invest in a better method of displaying the daily flavors — your dry erase board fell off the ledge and hit me in the shoulder. Thanks for the apology, no wait I didn’t get one!
Next time try serving a smile and a little bit of friendliness with that overpriced scoop.

had the Kitty Kitty Bang Bang and the Cherry Amaretto Fudge — both outstanding!

Pretty solid.
The wife and I had heard about this place and tried to hunt it down a few times without any luck. Finally thus week we caught up with them at Kylde warren park.
I had a scoop of Carmel sea salt, good but not outstanding compared to what I had in the past, on top of a brownie caramel cup scoop which was a lot more memorable. Both were creamy and delicious and pretty damn good when compared to the likes of cold stone or marble slab. Keep your eye out for the blue truck with some ice cream scoops on top. Be sure not to miss it!

Wow. Now hold on just a second. Have a seat people, because this is some news and a half. Don’t feel like reading? No need, but do know this: What’s da Scoop? serves up better ice cream than… Blue Bell. I know I know, it’s blasphemous, and my punishment should be nothing short of burning at the stake for such a claim. Curious as to why? Read on!
Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere?
First and foremost, let’s line up the competition shall we? Yes, Blue Bell is the king of kings when it comes to the Texas ice cream scene, and you can buy it literally everywhere from 7-​Eleven to Whole Foods. Additionally, there are some local joints that dish up both Blue Bell and their own treats as well, so let’s take a look at who they are:
Coolhaus (2 Stars):
Tiff’s Treats (4 Stars):
Pokey-O’s (3 Stars):
Obviously, the closest comparison here is Coolhaus in that it’s another food truck, but even so, WdS takes the cake when it comes to service. Friendly faces, abundant samples, and quick service. What more could you ask for? Star Granted.
Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?
So today at Klyde Warren Park was what I commonly refer to as a «spontaneous cheat day» no? I think you get the idea. I classify the day as such because I opted for not one or two, but THREE scoops of ice cream. I simply couldn’t make up my mind, and for good reason. What an amazing menu. Yes, Blue Bell can get exotic, but these were unbelievable. Let’s hear some of them, with my three selections up top:
Haley’s Comet: Vanilla + Chocolate Ice Cream with caramel and chocolate covered caramel cups
Yippee Skippee: Peanut Butter Ice Cream with chocolate covered pretzels
Ultimate Oreo: Vanilla + Oreo Crumb Ice Cream with Oreos
Kitty Kitty Bang Bang: Chocolate Ice Cream with Raspberry Swirls, Oreos and Chocolate Chunks
Maui Passion: Banana Purée, Strawberry Swirls and Oreos
woah. as in… wow. The best part? Three scoops were only $ 5.95! Is that cheap? Well, no, but it’s the same price as my ice cream sandwich at Coolhaus! Star Granted.
Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?
You know heaven? Or at least the notion of heaven if you’re not of the religiously inclined? We’ll call it euphoria no? Well here’s what you’re going to do. Take that euphoria, freeze it, and put it in a cup, because there, ladies and gentlemen, is the only comparison I have to specifically my scoop of Ultimate Oreo as well as the ‘Zoreo’ flavor that I tasted. As I mentioned, these flavors were right on par with Blue Bell, and the Oreo flavors were even better. Not overly frozen even though I came towards the end of the day, not too sweet, and just the right amount of richness. It’s not gelato, so don’t expect that, but it’s purely homemade and all in all just a great treat regardless of the weather. Dual Stars Granted.
Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could?
Alas, the elusive fifth star. «But Paul! You’ve raved on and on!» Indeed I have dear reader, indeed I have, but there is but one problem. While I love ice cream as much as near every puppy I’ve ever encountered, I also love cookies. At Pokey-O’s and Tiff’s Treats? I can have my ice cream AND my cookies. So hear me out: If What’s da Scoop were to have cookies? I would truly be the perfect dessert spot. In that they don’t, I simply can’t give the fifth star. That having been said? WdS is a great new addition to the Dallas Food Truck scene, and I have no doubt that they’re going to be a smash hit come Summertime. No Star Granted.
