Waldron Lodge

Like everything else Dallas, one finds the enjoyable parts of life to be «under construction.» In the face of development, Waldron still contains that spark of hope that concrete won’t overtake neighborhood socials nor will tacky, hat-​toting, wedge-​wearing downtown socialites with clone entourage wander in to spoil your chill. If they do, good luck finding seating. Btw: genuine bartenders and good music

Have been calling them for 4 straight days to ask a few questions and book a rather large party, no one answers the phone and the voice mailbox hasn’t been set up. I think it’s time to move on to another restaurant that cares in the Bishop Arts district. Looked interesting.

It’s a comfortable bar with an elevated sidewalk patio, less pretentious than most of the nearby establishments. Sit outside, listen to the Sunday afternoon guitarist, and mock the hipsters as they shuffle by.
That ‘beer companion’ sausage and cheese plate is huge and looks fantastic. Service is personable.
The beer is reasonable and the Ruby Mule will attack your brain. Get some.

I’ve mainly come here to drink and to enjoy live music by Jes Spires, but the place has really begun to grow on me. The bartenders and owner are extremely friendly and provide top-​notch service in a hunting and fishing lodge decorated building that gives off a rural east Texas vibe about it. Depending on who is running things each night, the stereo may be playing anything from classic country to Radiohead, and the owner supports local musicians with regular monthly and weekly features.
I’ve only been here to drink, so I can’t judge the food, but the menu seems pretty game-​centered and manly (I mean if food can be manly?). If you want something besides a mass-​produced domestic beer, the drinks are a little pricey, but that said, their Ruby Mule is among my favorite renditions of a Moscow Mule that I’ve had. They use Deep Eddy Ruby Red (always a winning pick in my book) and it just tastes so refreshing, while packing a perfect alcoholic punch!
They seem to have resolved the weird sewer smell problem they had the first couple times I visited, thank goodness! It is in a 1920’s era building, so I’m sure that can cause difficulties at times. There is an odd sign in the women’s room, though, requesting that toilet paper and other items be placed in the trash. I really hope they mean paper towels, rather than TP… If not, let that be a friendly warning to any aspiring dumpster divers out there…
There is still plenty of potential here, especially if they continue to have live music. I’m not sure this is the place I’d want to hang out every night, but it’s definitely a great place to chill out after dinner or after I’m off work, just slightly off the most beaten path of the Bishop Arts District.

The feel easy disney white trash lake house vibe creaks with wood floors in dark corners, busty bar maid chulas and drunk party girls playing bean bag toss in a green back yard.
«I feel like we’re near a river.» my friend commented as we hunkered down to hearty bison burgers and sweet pulled pork sandwiches with sweet potato fries on a sunday.
A bit of low brow amongst more sophisticated Gastro pub endeavors stakes its claim as the slightly blitzed guitar player belted out softer classic rock hits.
We found the food lake standesque — tasty, cloying and dripping in greases. The mood was codeine cool and trailer park hip without anyone trying too hard at all.
Atmosphere — feels like a fun party at a dirty old house with a druggie subtext
Food — fatty forward

There are only more goatees in Arlington. I think rangers fans would frequent here if baseball and or nascar didn’t exist. The worst place in bishop arts by far.

Here visiting. Charles is a great bartender he had someone pick me some fresh mint from next door to make one of the best mojitos I’ve had b in a long time. Great Job Charles. Can wait to come back to see you again. I really like this place

Came her on Saturday night with some friends. It was pouring rain so it was pretty empty, which was actually nice since we had a big group. Service however was pretty slow at times. They do have really good drink selection. I loved the vibe and environment, very casual hunting lodge-​esque. I hope to come back when the whether is better and can enjoy the patio and outdoor games. The menu looks great, but they were out of beef jerky so we did not try anything. My favorite part was they had live music and probably played all of our favorite songs. This will likely be my new favorite bar in the area.

Stopped in on the way out of Bishop Arts on a Friday night to listen to a few musicians who were playing. They were very good and the feel of the Waldron Lodge reminds you a lot of Austin, especially with the live music. Drinks were relatively expensive. Will definitely go back.

The Waldron Lodge was a very big part of us having such a great day in Dallas! It was immediately welcoming and the staff and patrons were all like instant «old friends». There is a hidden gem of a playground in the back that includes giant Jenga, corn hole, and horse shoes. We had so much fun, we left and came back for round two! Drinks were reasonably priced considering how well they pour them too.

This casual inviting lodge is a one year plus bar to the ever evolving Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff Dallas. Gabriel the arch angel bartender is attentive and pours a great Ruby Mule (Grapefruit Vodka & Ginger Beer).
On the back patio there are several dart boards, horseshoe pit, and ginga platform for you creative types. Unfortunately for me, the kitchen had already closed late night when I bellied up to the bar starvin marvin. I hear the exotic fare is superb, so I must come back once again.

In Bishop Arts trying to decide where we can have lunch to meet the needs of three. Not too fancy as they guys are in their biking gear, and I’m picky just because I can be. Not wanting to wait and seeing the pretty awesome patio at Waldron Lodge, it won.
Sat down and ordered a couple of appetizers to share (the black eyed peas and mac n cheese) and ordered our meal. The black eyed peas had an unusual consistency as they were fried. Just different and not what I expected. Mac and cheese was average, wasn’t anything crazy.
I order the pulled boar BBQ. The meat was really good but the pretzel bun was stale. I opted for regular fries as I am not a huge fan of sweet potato fries and they were pretty good.
Overall the meal was good but nothing over the top. as they got busier the wait staff appeared having trouble keeping up.

Great food. Great service. Great location! And the 5^th star for having the cojones to open a wild game food establishment! This is EXACTLY what Dallas needs and NOT another cookie cutter bar.

This is definitely a cool place to have dinner and a few drinks. The salmon guacamole was great and the duck tacos were superb! Gabriel behind the bar was very attentive and accommodating. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for something new.

I would have given this place 4 stars, but the smell of sewage the entire time we were there was not very appealing.
However, the space is pretty cool… a hunting lodge feel and the bartenders were pretty nice too.

Me and my friends walked in since we found quitter than than the other bars and we wanted something more quiet to talk. Well we walk in and nobody acknowledges us so we walk to the back and take a seat and the bartender walks back there to ask us what we want to drink and after asking for TWO beers that weren’t on the menu he acts annoyed and says why don’t u just walk up to the bar so u can see what we have I don’t have time for this and I’m the only one here. So finally we do and then they give my friend a hard time about his id. We are in our 30’s mind you. Then he screams at us from inside to the outside how much time we have left. He was just so rude and obnoxious. The place was cool and laid back and If it wasn’t for the jerk ass bartender I would definitely want to go back.

This place DEFINITELY would have gotten 5 stars, if not for the service.
Pros: Their drinks are really good and the food is good.
Cons: you don’t get wait service on the patio (why? I have no earthly idea). When you have to go into the bar to place your order, they don’t listen to you anyway (yes, when there are 2 people, we really do mean we’d like 2 entrees, not just one).
Other than that, great patio and super creative menu!

Good drink selections and modestly priced.
The service was amazing as the bartenders were constantly engaged with the customers.
I haven’t had their food yet, but when looking at the menu it was quite eye-​opening: frog legs, fried black-​eyed peas, and rabbit stew were just some of the interesting items on the menu. I would definitely be interested to go back and have some food.

Probably closer to 3.5 stars but I’ll round it up since it was new and I like the idea. I originally read about this spot on Thrillist and it looked just like another place I was hoping to try in San Diego. I went down to Bishop Arts for another spot that I found out was closed and quickly pulled out my Thrillist app to see what else was in the area. When I saw Waldron Lodge listed, I made my way to it to check it out. It was a Saturday afternoon and a little understaffed (no servers, and only one bartender but she was great). I went with the elk sausage, which was pretty tasty.
The bar area is pretty cool so even if the food might not be for some people, the bar as itself is good.

Cruising into Bishop Arts I see a place on the map that I’ve never heard of, I google in quickly on my phone and notice no Unilocal reviews. Could this be? Could I be the first to review it?! Very exciting, and the menu looks interesting, to boot.
It was pretty dead compared to the other places in the area but they have a big NOW OPEN sign so we mosey on over. The vibe is cool, very rustic and the place is mostly just a big wooden bar, a couple tall cocktail tables, and a big patio. They nailed the «lodge» thing. We sidle up to the bar and get to ordering beer– the bartender didn’t seem to be real knowledgeable about the beers but they are super new, I’m sure she’ll learn with time. The music playing was modern country hits (which I love) but soccer on the TV’s (which seemed like a weird combo but okay.)
We started out with the PLT –lettuce cups, pork belly, peanut sauce and pico. Very tasty and refreshing in the summer heat. Then I got the pulled boar BBQ sandwich and it was exceptional. The pretzel bun added some little salty bits and really held up to the generous amount of delicious, saucy pig meat. The sauce was tangy but not overwhelming and the slaw added just the right amount of crunch and creaminess. The sweet potato fries were good but the thicker ones weren’t quite cooked all the way through. My husband got the duck tacos which he he enjoyed very much. BUT THEN the chef brought out some fresh-​out-​the-​cooker pork shoulder just to share since it was so fresh, it just had some salt and pepper on it And DAYUM that was some delicious, melt-​in-​your-​mouth meat.
We were impressed! The vibe is chill, the prices are pretty sane, and the chef seems really stoked to make delicious food (also, I thought he was cute but that shouldn’t really factor.)
