Vision Quest

I was referred to this practice from my optometrist to be seen about a painful double eye infection that was not responding to treatment. So imagine my surprise when I was still in the waiting room 2 hours after my appointment time. I inquired at the desk as to when I would be seen and was told…“most patients wait at least 3 – 4 hours here”.
This is an unacceptable way to do business and I’m tired of doctors thinking this is ok. I will never refer anyone to this practice based on my experience. Just awful.

I wish I could get a set of stars to the administrative staff (2 stars) and a different set of stars to the Doctor and techs (4 stars).
I’ll start with the positive. I was referred to Dr. Herman and was happy to see him. He is very professional and thorough and answers your questions well and really wants to make sure you understand what is going on with your eye. In my case a cataract. The techs who preformed the test were also very skilled and friendly and though everything took a long time (I had at least 7 different eye test) I felt like I was in good hands. Looking back I wish I had asked more about why we needed so many test, because I feel it was a little overboard.
As far as the front desk staff, I don’t have much good to say about them. They were disorganized and not helpful. The woman who checked me in was new so I can give her a pass, she was learning. However, the woman who checked me out said she would make my referral appointment the next day and call me. She not only didn’t call me when I called them to find out what was going on they acted like they had no idea I they were suppose to make me an appointment with another doctor (I actually have to see 2 other Doctors be fore I have surgery) and flat out refused to call the second doctor until she had set up the appointment with the first one, because she «was doing a lot right then». What the crap? I can’t move forward with treatment until I see these other Doctors and they didn’t care to help me with that at all.
Over all very frustrating and though I liked Dr. Herman VERY much it makes me think I maybe should look to another office of my surgery.
**Bottom line:** You have to keep on top of the admins to make sure they do their job and you should ask a lot of questions as to why the techs do want they do to make sure it is necessary.

I was informed by my optometrist that I was developing cataracts and that they should be removed and he recommend Eye Vision and Dr. Herman. My wife had the same procedures at Key Whitman and she encouraged me to use Key Whitman as she had great success. This review is about my personal use of Eye Vision and is neither an endorsement nor negative review of the services provided. It is posted in the hope that a reviewer will get some valuable use out of my experience.
First one must make an appointment or in my case I had a referral from my optometrist. My wife and I discussed the procedures and cost with Dr. Herman who was very thorough with most of his discussions. I elected to go with the cataract removal and the most expensive lens implant. Deciding on a lens implant is difficult to do if you are like me and know very little about the lens, the procedure to insert the lens or the expected results. Thus I would encourage anyone contemplating a lens implant to do research and lots of research to see what previous results have been. Contact other patients and perhaps even other doctors. Don’t be quick to make a decision as this is a procedure that will have significant impacts on your life, not just your sight.
Make absolutely certain your understand the scope of the procedures. What will be done, what the recovery time will be, what the final results may be and the cost? Once you have decided upon the procedure and the lens make absolutely certain you understand the cost. Not just for the procedure, but also for possible follow-​ups and for possible other charges that may be imposed later. Then check to see if Medicare (if applicable) pays any of the charges and then find out what your insurance will pay. DO NOT depend upon what you are told at the office and some of these girls have absolutely no idea. I personally had to call my insurance company twice to get issues squared away as to coverage and cost.
The day of the surgery you will wait and perhaps wait a little more as this is a very busy clinic. Then a young girl will came out to ask for your credit card. Don’t be offended as she does this with all patients that we saw. The staff in the surgery area I found to be very nice and professional. The surgery was without pain and done very quickly. I was out of the clinic in a very short period. By the way the clinic area was very clean as it should be. You will more than likely have prescriptions that will be very expensive.
I returned a few days later for a check up and to have the procedure done on the other eye. Everything went as planned. There were other procedures that would have to be done later and there was some misunderstanding concerning what had been included in the original cost. This was sorted out after a meeting with Dr. Herman.
I had this surgery one year ago and what are the results. First let né say that I was told that every person’s results might be different. There are no standard results. Some may eventually return to ²⁰⁄₂₀ vision while other may have to have some adjustments by having to wear glasses. In my case I have very good vision in my right eye however the left eye required that I revisit the clinic several times for the eye doctor to evaluate my progress. Today, one year later, I have great vision for the distance and with adequate lighting can read quite well. Using the computer requires that I wear glasses as that distance is just beyond my sight for reading.
I have difficulty driving at night as the lights produce a halo that is annoying. I discussed this with my doctor at the clinic and was given some drops to use. The drops work fairly well but gave be a terrific headache and I cannot use them. Discussed this with my optometrist and he prescribed some glasses that should help. Just got the new glasses and they do not help at all with the halos. After doing extensive research it appears this is something that happens to a lot of patients and something you have to learn to live with mostly by not driving at nighttime.
I just wanted to share my experience as I wished someone had done this with me before I started the process.
