Black beans were delicious. There are a few vegetarian options so that was a plus. The restaurant was trendy and clean, with a lot of pop music playing. For the amount of food I got, I felt I overpaid a little. Not sure if I’ll be back, but it was fun to try.

Delicious tacos; Great service; Great location! Like coming here pre or post matinée nearby! Their chips are thick and crispy, perfect for dipping into their salsas, their avocado lime cream is a must! This visit, I devoured their perfectly seasoned and prepared shrimp al pastor and chicken al carbon heavily packed tacos — yum — 2 is just right! Will be back soon! Cheers!

The service was decent, for a hot day. Loved the salsa trio! A definite must have when coming! A friend, who brought me and pretty ordered for me made sure I got the best on the menu. I don’t know all what I ate, but I enjoyed it all. I’m not a fan of ala carte menus, but with the help of my friend, I was able to get a decent amount of food for a great price! Loved the location, though parking was a bit tight. Not the business’s fault, since it’s located inside a mall. But wanted to make note. Better to park in the garage and walk then attempting to park on the street. The salsa trio was worth it all! Highly recommended!

Ok so the service sucked… the drinks too expensive… the selection limited… no queso… no hard taco shell option… the tortilla soup was cold… terrible experience. Now they are trying to make excuses as they see me on Unilocal… too late and too bad.

Food quality and taste — definitely 4 stars. There is no doubt the food is really good but the portion sizes for the price is crazy so I have to knock it down to a 3 star review. 1. Chips & salsa– not free but you can’t really expect that a place like this. You do get to choose your three salsas when you order it so go ahead and just pay for it. Chips are thick so not my fav but that’s just me. 2. Guacamole– nothing extraordinary but it was super fresh and flavorful. Can make the exact same at home. 3. Tacos– I got barbacoa– excellent but TINY. I mean tiny. Smaller than my female fist tiny. My husband would need 10 of these to make a meal but they were very flavorful. 4. Corn– killed. The serving size was probably two tablespoons but it was so good! All in all it’s an ok place but I’d rather hit Velvet Taco down the street any day of the week instead.

Hands down, the most unique and delicious«high-end» taco option in the area. The chips are my favorite in all of Dallas; order with the pineapple salads and warm tomatillo! Lunch specials include Pozole soup and salad and a 2 taco plate for under $ 10. Dinner is a must too: tortas, salads, and tacos galore. A must when at Mockingbird Station!

Came here for a birthday dinner and the night was an overall success. Our waitress was so patient in waiting for my full party to arrive. She took our orders quickly and we had a great evening. I love Urban Taco! I love their tacos to their quesadillas to their tortilla soup to their empanadas. I’ve gone to this location for years, and I will be back for as long as they continue to be so great!

Delicioso! Yesterday(Tuesday during lunch time) was my first experience here and I was quite pleased with the trendy atmosphere of the place, the service, and the food! I got the taco special — 3 tacos with 2 sides for $ 12. I got the snapper taco, the chicken al carbon, and the chicken tinga taco. For sides I had the green rice and the roasted corn. Seriously, I loved every bite of everything on my plate. Everything tasted fresh and was very flavorful. My husband also really enjoyed his food as well. The server was very attentive and helpful. And the coolest part of all: when you check out here on Unilocal!,you get a free cinnamon churro and OOOOOOHMAN — those things are AMAZING! If I didn’t have the self control that I do, I would have ordered another serving of those. Wow! Best part: they were free! Sweet! :)

We made reservations 3 weeks in advance for a party of 16. It’s a small place, but when half the restaurant is empty, you think it’d be doable. When we arrived, half of our table was ready, and they asked us to wait until the rest of the patrons nearby left to sit down. Again, most of the restaurant was dead on a Saturday night, seemed like a lack of planning. Then the lady waitress, who it was obviously her first day, took 2 – 3 drink orders at a time and walked away. Never experienced that before — had to go to the bar with the rest of the tables orders to have her enter in at the same time. Ultimately, after 20 min of dancing around the disaster, great food. Should be fine for a party of 2. Frustrating. Flashback: they also dropped salsa in my friends hair, all down her dress. If that’s your thing, this is your place. Aaaaaand they messed up the tickets. Go figure.

Disappointing and over priced. I got the grilled ahi tuna and shrimp al pastor tacos. They weren’t even the size of my hand. The tuna was tasteless and the shrimp was less than decent. Total waste of $ 7. Won’t be back.

I gave this piece of crap place another chance tonight and WOW did they disappoint! I brought my whole family here and they did not even flinch at the bait and switch rip off. They advertised«half priced margaritas»(see photo), but the bill showed up with full priced drinks. After calling out the accident after we paid the bill, they claimed that we should have known better(somehow). Basically they squirted some pepper juice into a margarita and claimed that exempted the drink from the advertised price. They screwed me once on the same scam several months ago, and I totally agree that it is my fault for being such a dumbass to give them another chance, but I figured that maybe it was just a bitchy waitress last time. This time is a criminal act and they added $ 60 to our tab on a LIE. I am fed up with this FALSEADVERTISING and ripping off of tourists at Mockingbird Station. The shopping center is friendly and attracts good people. This scam restaurant is going to ruin the reputation that all of the good places have worked so hard to build. STAYFARAWAY.

This being my second time at Urban Taco and my first time at the Mockingbird location, I think it’s ready for review. The tacos here are really really good! It’s a mix between street tacos found on Davis in Oak Cliff and Velvet Taco. More than basic seasoning is added to the meat and the condiments dressing the taco don’t overshadow it. I had the 3 taco plate with 2 sides for $ 12 and chose the carne asada and shrimp tacos. My sides were green rice and black beans. All super delicious but doesn’t make you walk away feeling overly full. Thursday’s is happy hour all day so I had just a basic margarita which was nice on a 100° day!

I’m a big fan of skinny margaritas(the house is usually too sweet) and this one is pretty good. The best part about it was it was half off because Urban Taco does a «Thirsty Thursday» which means half off ALL margs and mojitos ALLDAY. So if you’re trying to save a buck and in the area, give it a try.

If you don’t like waiting a long time for food, urban taco isn’t for you. I came here with friends for their«Thirsty Thursdays» special(½ off all margaritas and mojitos all day!) when it was pretty empty, and it still took us an hour to get our entrees. The drinks are pretty tasty; the margaritas tasted more like smoothies, and their mojitos were like fruit juice. So pretty good, but not that strong. If you have an appetite, you will definitely need to order the taco combo(any 3 tacos and 2 sides of your choice) or at least order more than 3 tacos because their tacos, while pretty good but nothing to rave about, are tiny. And their servings of sides are essentially a regular spoonful. you can literally eat it in a bite. The side of corn was my favorite though. I would have been willing to pay more for a bigger serving because their side dishes are especially a tease! TL;DR — Decent tacos, small servings, slow service.

Jamie and I came here for Thirsty Thursdays, and it was delightful. Here’s the list of treats: — live music(flamenco guitar) — half price ritas(the classico is delish) — regular menu– we enjoyed the pick your own tacos and pozole We sat right next to the guitarist, and it was a bit loud. Perfect weather dictated that we sit outside, our likely plan next week. HIghly recommended– we’ll be back soon!

Tried this place after a very long time ago and it did not disappoint. We went on a Friday night and were seated immediately at a booth. We shared the 3 tacos and 2 sides item. I got the Chicken Mole taco on flour tortilla and it was so delicious! The sides were rice and cream corn and I couldn’t get enough of both. The portion size is small so if you are really hungry you shouldn’t share this dish and just get the whole thing for yourself. The place has a cool, hip vibe and décor is nice. Our waitress was super nice too. We were going to the Angelika afterward and it is in walking distance so great place for a pre-theatre dinner. I will be back!

Overview: Urban Taco is a small, hip Mexican restaurant located in a very clean strip mall near the neighborhood of Highland Park. It delivers average street Mexican food at higher than average prices, but serves them in a classy way with good service. The Food: The portions here are small for the price you pay. While the presentation was superb, with very clean tables, pure white, modern dishes, and great plating, I felt that I was overpaying for tiny, simple, street tacos. I didn’t find the way my steak or shrimp tacos were seasoned was unique or worth the upcharge versus a run-of-the-mill taco stand downtown. The sides were extremely tiny(see photo) and I left the restaurant feeling fairly hungry. Another oddity is that for their lunch specials, they charge $ 1 extra for every seafood taco, but if you buy seafood tacos a-la-carte, they are usually only $ 0.50 more. The Establishment: One thing that I noticed immediately that there was minor difficulty communicating with the staff, which I found odd for a restaurant in Highland Park. Perhaps the way I phrased questions was a bit ambiguous, but I found it hard to find out what dishes the staff actually recommends. The actual restaurant is very nicely decorated and clean. The service here is also good and my water was refilled several times. Oddly, the bathroom lacked soap. Perhaps I arrived on a day that the dispenser had been taken out? Conclusions: Urban Taco sacrifices substance for style. At first glance, you would think that you’re in for a special treat with its modern logo, hip name, and trendy presentation, but at its heart, it’s a simple taco shop masquerading as an upscale restaurant.

Pretty good food… not great, but not bad. We had the Chicharron de Queso which is really good. Don’t expect«traditional American style fried cheese»(see my pic). This is more similar to parmesan crisps. My Hubby & I each had a Torta. He had the Arrachera Steak torta & I had the Poblano, Potato & Zucchini torta. They were both good, but mine was surprisingly better than his. The veggie torta was seasoned much better. Also, more steak on his torta would have been welcome. The tortas are a great deal because they are served with mango jicama slaw, yucca fries, and a yummy dipping sauce. The sandwiches are big, so you get more bang for your buck with these than the tacos. Thursday is happy hour ALL day long, so if we go back, it will be then.
