The Schlichting Group

I have read the other reviews of the Schlichting Group listed here on Unilocal — both recommended and not recommended and up to this past summer would have had to agree with them. My wife had had some dealings with them before we were married and was satisfied with their service. However, after our first joint return was done by them I was unimpressed so I either did the next years on my own or went to another franchised service. Last spring the IRS came after my wife for unfiled taxes her mother had not taken care of when she was alive. They garnished her wages and were set on destroying our lives. My wife begged me to go back to Schlichting. I did and met with Jason. He claimed that they would take care of everything. Eventually THEY did. I had been under the impression that Jason was in charge of getting everything done. He wasn’t. All of it was farmed out to the staff. I had severe problems getting in contact with him. Even though he had given me his direct phone number he would either not return my calls or would return them days later. Eventually, the garnishment was lifted and we were put on a payment plan.
Last October, for personal problems, we fell behind in our payments and the IRS came after us again. In frustration I tried to get a hold of Jason only to find out that he was no longer there. Instead I was put in contact with Michael. At my meeting with him I was thoroughly impressed. He let me know that Schlichting was going to take care of us and they did. We got the IRS problem straightened out, lower repayments agreed to and a big load taken off of our backs. Since then, whenever I have a question or a problem, I get a quick answer. Teresa, one of their top people has taken over being my major contact person. Even though my account is a small personal account she treats me like it is a major corporation. I had my taxes for 2014 done with them this year and I am satisfied with the results. If you had asked me last summer to recommend Schlichting I would had had to say flip a coin. Now, with the new attitude, I give them a solid thumbs up.

I wish i would have read the other review before using them. I going through horrible customer service. They could careless about me or my Tax issues. I will probably call the IRS when they open and negotiate my own deal and sue these people. Run from them.

Stay away from these folks. I am in business and have handled payment arrangements with the IRS on my own several times over the years. The last time I took my accountant’s advice and called this company thinking it might be worthwhile. The initial meeting with the owner and his assistant went well. They fell all over themselves to tell me what all they would accomplish for me. They took my $ 3,700 payment and said I would hear from them the next day. 4 days later having not heard from them I called the assistant back and asked her why I had not heard from anyone. She said she would have someone call me right away. A little while later my assigned lawyer Ralph called me and opened the conversation by scolding me for calling the owner’s assistant. This was strange to me since the only contact number I was given was hers which was on the card she gave me, and she said to call her if I had any questions. Anyway after I sent them all the requested information (which was in perfect and complete form) I heard nothing from them for a long time. Ralph’s assistant Roxanne told me that everything was on track each time I called. Then out of the blue I get a call from an IRS agent who tells me they have put a lien on my house and several bank accounts. I explained to them that schlichting had my power of attorney and they were supposed to be negotiating an offer in comprise for me. The IRS agent said that they had received the poa and had made numerous phone calls to schlichting that were not returned. When I called Ralph he said that the calls had gone to the owners assistant and she never checks her voicemail. No apology or concern at all. Eventually they ended up getting me an installment agreement which I could have easily done on my own and saved the 3700 dollars, and I would not have a lien on my house. These folks just want your money and don’t really have a clue about customer service or any competence in working with the IRS from what I can tell.
