Having an up-to-date home and business inventory helps settle insurance claims faster and for the right amount while helping life get back to normal a lot faster.

What is a professional inventory? A home or business inventory includes comprehensive documentation of your property and belongings including serial and model numbers and high resolution digital documentation. After a robbery or disaster, your inventory is used by your insurance company when calculating reimbursement amounts and by police to help document serial numbers.

When a homeowner, business owner, or renter files an insurance claim, they must create a complete list of EVERYTHING affected and prove ownership and the condition of all things listed.

History

Established in 1996.

Being the victim of a devastating home robbery in 1996, Michelle Ketterman understands how difficult recalling everything you own can be after an event; only compounded while dealing with the emotional toll the robbery took on her children, spouse, and herself.

Although the Kettermans had excellent Home Owners Insurance, the emotional aftermath of a home robbery caused them to inadvertently leave many valuable, but not often used items from the claim reimbursement form.

Learning this expensive and painful lesson led Michelle to start keeping detailed documentation and photographs of everything in the Ketterman home. After seeing the detailed lists Michelle kept of her belongings, and becoming discouraged by the amount of time and effort it took, friends and family asked her to compile the same lists for

them. Word began to spread that what others weren’t able to do after months of work, Michelle easily completed home inventories after spending just a few hours in their home.

Michelle K.

Business Owner

Michelle Ketterman formally formed The Inventory Experts in 2008 after 13 years of performing free lance third party professional home and business inventories.

She has become the go-to person for home and business professional inventories.

After realizing many Home Inventory Professionals falsely claim they are licensed, when there is no license in the Home Inventory industry, Michelle gathered passionate peers from around the country dedicated to educating the consumer on the importance of a homeinventory while helping make home inventory as common as homeowners insurance, and formed The Inventory Institute. A national organization that verifies Home Inventory Professionals and their insurance, bonding, and inventory practices, The Inventory Institute is the first of its kind and looks to propel the industry forward ethically.
