The Do Cut and Color

I’m new to Dallas by way of NYC. Was in desperate need of color just before NYE and found several salons reviewed highly by D magazine. THE DO CUT AND COLOR was at the top of the list. What jumped out at me in that review was an earthiness about it. I called the salon and Betty, the owner, answered. She was lovely and SO accommodating. I was a bit manic, but she squeezed me in the next morning, first appointment of the day! I shared my color formula with her; they use Wella so it would be an easy match, she assured me. I arrived at the salon, friendly vibe, cool space. Net-​net: They do a great job. Got a phenomenal blow-​out. Everyone is super friendly and aims to please. I spoke to Betty for about an hour about Dallas and all sorts of girl stuff… My hair looks great. Happy!

It is very unfortunate that there are still businesses that don’t know how to treat potential clients. The lady that answered the phone when I called to cancel my appointment was very rude and she actually told me that my name wasn’t even registered. In other words, they didn’t even book my appointment when I called the first time. I’m so glad I actually never got the chance to go to that place, very sad experience… Never again.

So I was having a melt down and HAD to cut my hair… it didn’t matter that I already had an appt set for later in the week with this same salon… I needed help TODAY! So I called, probably sounding so desperate — I was told to come right in! WOW what an answer to prayer! Love, love, love my hair cut and I’m still looking forward to the color appt later this week! Everyone was so warm and inviting and VERY genuine! I so appreciated the concern and positive comments, I know I was a mess but left feeling like a million bucks!

Wish there was a no star option! First time I went I almost left because I felt like Betty the owner didn’t want to help me. Next time I went the color was off and didnt match my extensions, went back a third time and not only did the color turn out off again but then I couldn’t even get my hair cut because the lady in front of me was getting extensions and I waited forever and then just left with wet hair. Then today I walked in for my appointment that they had set for me on my last visit at 9:15 and they tell me they are in an all store meeting and wouldn’t have anyone to do it (to not lose a customer wouldnt you delay the meeting? It’s not my fault you booked my appointment during your meeting) they told me I could come in tomorrow. I leave for vacation tomorrow. Wow. I’m at Tony and Guy now. I thought high end was the way to go. Guess not.

Horrible and Rude!
I’ve never seen such horrible professionalism! The owner «Betty» is horrible they say she specializes in Baylage, I’m telling you the stuff she puts on my hair burns my scalp and fried my hair off, I’m pretty sure it’s probably illegal I asked the other colorist what it was she said its a special type of bleach and she doesn’t tell anyone what it is but it works, If by works means put something toxic on my head okay probably going to call the complaint state number.
She is so rude and really doesn’t care about the client. «Happy Hair happy you.» pssssh whatever she could care lees. I over heard her and the 2 other stylist talking negitvely about be in the back room when I went to the restroom, they were laughing and talking very vulgarly about me. The other stylist are so far up the owners butt shes teaching them how to be just like her. I would not recommend this salon to anyone! By anyone I wouldn’t even recommend it to me worst enemy. Horrible place to go and awful employees! STAY AWAY RUN!

I love this salon. First of all — it’s very laid back and pretty inside — and always has great music playing. There’s not that «hair salon» attitude you get some places. Everyone is friendly. I always feel very at home and comfortable here. Betty, the owner, is simply one of the best colorists around and your hair will never look better after she’s through with you! Craig is one of the stylists there and I really like him, too. So talented and so nice. I look forward to my visits to The Do for my root touch ups and cuts and highlights. It’s a fun, friendly salon with top notch service. What’s not to love?

HORRIBLY RUDE! And this is the OWNER! «Betty»! I made an appointment there for a week later for a consultation. Why? Because Jenna from KISSFM goes and I like her hair. I get a call about an hour before the appointment from ‘Betty’ telling me there’s been a conflict and telling me, not asking, that I need to come in at 2:30. I say I can’t do that, and I ask if the conflict is because someone accidentally booked me at someone’s else’s time. She wouldn’t answer so that tells me I got the boot because someone else wanted my appointment time. She was very abrasive and when I told her I just wouldn’t be coming in, she said, «OK, bye.» So a little later I call back because at that point I didn’t know it was the owner and I thought maybe it was a receptionist and a manager would be nicer. That’s when I found out that she was the owner! And the funny thing is, I went in last Saturday just to check the place out and there were NO customers!!! On a Saturday!!! LOL. They won’t last. Apparently others know like I do now that this place should be called, «The Don’t!»

Awesome ladies & don’t forget Craig! First time in here and they treated me like family… Will definitely be back!!!

Love, love, love what Betty did for my color, how Natalie cut my hair, and Craig’s magic Brazilian blowout. They made me over completely post divorce, and I feel like a million bucks!

I think they’ve confused «casual» with unprofessional. I arrived at my scheduled time to become the 4^th in line for color. Obviously not concerned about my time I decided to leave. Glad I did after reading the other reviews. Not sure how they possibly made D Mag best list unless the writer is related to the owner… Only possible explanation.

They are friendly and helpful!

«The Snob and Color»… insists that my fiancé can afford my hair cut
I was there to fix a hair disaster. The «cut» had already been fixed so I went for a color correction at The Do. Besides correcting the color, the owner kept pushing to have someone in her salon fix my haircut *again*.
She made snarky remarks to others like, «this is the fix if you can believe it». (My «sub par» fix cost $ 150 at a celebrity salon in Europe. Paris Hilton thought her hair was good enough… apparently The Do didn’t.) In the end, she made me feel sufficiently uncomfortable for «only» spending $ 175 on corrective highlights.
The best part? When I was in the restroom, the owner asked my mother what my fiancé does for a living. My mom told her and she replied, «oh well she can afford it.»
Fishing to find out what I can afford? Inappropriate.
Implying that I need my fiancé’s help to get a haircut? Disgusting.

Best salon in Dallas! Love love love my color and cut! Thank you Betty and Brian!

I’m very particular about who touches my hair. It can’t be just anyone. I’ve been burned in the past, but I believe that I have finally found a salon that’s a keeper.
After my first trip to The Do, I can honestly say, I’ll be a regular. The color that Betty did on my hair turned out phenomenal. I’m a dirty blonde, so often times, even just a little blonde in my hair turns my whole head BLONDE and brassy. But with her, she was able to bring out my natural highlights, giving me a dimensional tone that I love. And possibly even better, I got a cut in which the stylist DID NOT chop off all my hair. Ladies, tell me that’s not hard to find.
The prices are a little up there, but in my opinion, competitive and totally worth it.

I’m not sure what’s going on with the previous reviewer’s but my experience was great. The previous comments seem so similar it makes me think it’s disgruntled hairstylist being petty. They greeted me as soon as I walked in and made me feel welcome the whole time. I loved the color, it was exactly what I wanted and my haircut was also what I wanted. I I had read the reviews before hand I would have missed out on this trendy, upbeat, friendly salon. Don’t be fooled by the previous reviews. There were several regulars while I was there, you don’t get repeat business without great service and a friendly atmosphere.

I wish I would have read the reviews before booking my appointment. I saw the D Magazine ranking for Best Highlights in Dallas so I called based on that. I left the salon with my highlighted blonde hair and awful orange roots. I hated it but thought maybe it was the lighting. It wasn’t the lighting. I returned a few days later to have the orange roots fixed and Betty told me their was nothing wrong and it was just going to take some time for me to adjust to color the way it should always be and I was just use to bleached out roots. She added more color to the roots that day but I still left with bleached hair and orange roots. My hair texture is also quite damaged than ever before. I really wanted to like the salon but this is the worst my hair has ever looked and the salon was not able to fix it.

Horrible, horrible experience here. I was very excited, as this is a Wella salon, which means it is one of the few places in Dallas to offer Sebastian Cellophanes, which is the service I booked. I get there, no receptionist, an apprentice that looks pretty confused greets me and points me in some direction. I’ve never been there, had no clue where to go or what she wanted me to do. Turns out I needed to go change. I sit down in a chair and am not spoken to for another 20 minutes. It’s a Saturday, but it is not busy. Most girls are actually standing around twiddling their thumbs. Another girl whom I would assume is an apprentice comes and rips through my hair, but still doesn’t say word. Then Betty finally comes! I explain that I was there for a Cellophane, as I just wanted a refresh of color and wasn’t looking for actual hair color on my hair. She said she has me covered and has her apprentice go mix up the color. I’m not paying attention, another 15 minutes pass. She finally comes back and starts putting color on my hair… Not the service I was there for. Nothing I could do with chemicals now on my hair, so I let her finish and start my processing time. I sit for 40 minutes, where this product should only be on my hair for 20 to 30. No timer was set, so I’m pretty sure she just eyeballed it. The lady next to me had been processing for at least an hour (should have been 35 minutes with her color) and I got rinsed first. Then my cut (girl didn’t introduce herself so I don’t know who she is) went very fast. She chopped through my hair with thinning shears for a good portion of the cut. At the end my hair was curled with a flat iron and she didn’t like where one piece fell so she cut it off. SHE CUT IT OFF! I was a hairstylist at a very upscale Dallas salon until about a year ago — these things are unacceptable, unprofessional and honestly, they should not be in business. Did my hair look horrible? No. It looked fine. the color wasn’t what I wanted, the cut was a bit weird after trying to style it different ways, but it wasn’t orange and purple and shaved on the side. The issue with this place is a complete disregard for the customer with their, «We do what we want» policy. The unfortunate thing is that Betty thinks it is completely acceptable to run a business this way. Is the customer always right? Of course not. But if you don’t like what they want to do, have a proper consultation and make a suggestion, don’t just forget what they ask you and do whatever you think they need. I don’t expect perfection, but seriously, come on. D Magazine was way off in their «Review» of this place. So disappointed and will never go back.

Entirely accurate and sad story… so I came in for just a highlight with the owner Betty. She and I sat down for 20 min assessing what would be best. She states, «you need to get a haircut first» and leaves. Some girl washes my hair and without any word chops half my hair off into a horrible cut. Now I’m visibly upset but the stylist (who is almost bald herself) says «I needed that all cut off no matter what I said.» Ok so I’m over the cut, sit down for highlights with Betty (whom I made the highlight appt with) and a girl 5 min out of beauty school starts preparing to do my highlights. ***entirely true****. I then voice my concerns, Betty comes over and states, «I don’t do foil highlights, you can leave or stay w my assistant.» I’m going on a vacation 12 hours from my appt so I let the really clueless assistant do her job. When I tell Betty it’s not coming out right, she states, and I quote, «we’ll, you had the option to leave!» I ended up with orange highlights and a man’s haircut. Betty did not charge me and yelled at me that I needed not to comment on her store since she built it! Stay so far away from this place, it’s staff, and most of all, Betty the owner… she and the short hair blonde lady will ruin your hair, just as they did mine I worked months to grow out :(!

I told myself I would only write this is the owner did not respond to my direct address and she obviously did not. I went in about a month ago with hair to my mid back and a very long side swept bang. My natural hair color is somewhat of a light ash blonde but being the adventurer I am I chose a dark hue for the winter months and now it was time to go back. I am 26 years old and over the years have died my hair every color from red to blue to black and blonde again and never ever once have I ever had any lasting damage… UNTIL THIS SALON~!
First they decided I needed a «Color Correction» which I did not and it left my hair an orange color reserved for mostly nacho cheese flavored chips and girls who died their hair from a box. This process took over 6 hours all the while I starved and looked on as the staff ate pizza and donuts. Then after all of that time I was given the worst and I mean worst hair cut of my life.
Yes I did say I wanted to try a subtle bang not cut off half of my hair to a blunt and I do mean BLUNT bob and give me half a mall bang from 1988. The look was so bad and the price $ 300… I beg and plead with you if you have any at all care for your hair please please please OH MY GOD do not come here.

6 months ago, my friend ordered hair extensions from this salon, which requires you to put down $ 150 deposit first and then another $ 150 to get them put in.
6 months later and no word from the salon the owner, Betty about the extensions.
When confronted in person, Betty refused to even show us the hair extensions, let alone refund my friend.
We asked for a resolution to this mess, we were freaking kicked out of the store in front of the whole staff!
Not only did Betty demand if I was a lawyer but said she would call the cops if we didnt get off the sidewalk bench right outside the store.
Don’t ever go to this salon because they won’t provide you with a receipt or any type of paper trial so you can cover your tracks.
Be warned in case you get scammed by Betty.
