SunstoneFIT – Uptown Plaza

This studio brought many firsts into my life. When they meant HOT yoga, they weren’t kidding. The room was really hot. The teacher was inspiringly svelte. Surprisingly, she wore a microphone to amplify her soft voice. As the heat relaxed my body to a near napping state, I understood the importance of the mic. I had to drink a lot of water and rest my head on the clean towel generously provided by the Sunstone reception. All in all, the heat helped me stretch my muscles. This is an excellent time of year to try it out. You’ll get hot on hot, as if you had just mixed sriracha and tobasco. There’s a basic locker room where you can cool down, especially important if you plan on getting in the car and driving. I suggest you take your sweet time before jumping in that car and pushing that pedal.

I just had the worst experience ever talking to the Diane, the manager at this place. I was interested in checking out the studio to take a yoga class. I couldn’t find pricing information so I decided to call. When I spoke to Diane she was very rude and impatient. She told me that the prices were in the website under «join». I asked her if I needed to join in order to take a class because I had never been there before. Instead of answering the question, she asks me how often I practice and tells me that a membership is the most cost effective way.
She went on to tell me about an introductory session which would be free. I’m workout regularly outside of yoga, and practice frequently at another yoga facility. I simply wanted to see what they had to offer, get pricing information so that I could try a class there to see if I like it. After that, I can decide whether a membership, package, or drop in would work.
When I asked her if I had to become a member she told me «that I don’t have to do anything» in a very rude and abrupt way. She said that the package options are on the website. She finally told me the packages prices when my iPad began to freeze. I have never encountered such rudeness. I would not recommend this place. This type of arrogant behavior is not acceptable.

I absolutely love this place! They offer a wide variety of yoga classes, barre, and in January they’ll have their HIT classes available.
One studio upstairs which is warm in all classes and hot in hot yoga (duh). They have two memberships– I suggest spending the extra $ 10 to get the signature Bc you get to bring a friend ANYTIME you want for free. Also, they have a rewards program so the more classes you attend, the cheaper your membership is– referrals get you points too!
They have a ton of instructors who are very knowledgeable and helpful with your poses. Never have I seen someone be condescending, always a positive fix.
I highly recommend Sunstone!

A great place to spend a few hours a week. Stress relieving, a workout, an escape. You’ll find your favorite teachers for different reasons. Especially enjoy going in the winter.

I love this place! A friend of mine is a member who has access to free guess passes and invited me for a barre and strengthening class. There’s an upstairs hot yoga studio with mat placement marked (super convenient and helpful!), free towel service, mats and balls available, and a coach who walks around calling out the moves while another staff member (?) displays the moves for those of us who need a little extra help. The girl on the microphone was fantastic! I was the only person who brought my own mat, so I’m not sure if that’s frowned upon or not. I was delighted by my experience and would highly recommend anyone who is interested in yoga and strengthening classes give it a whirl. The location is next to Kung Fu in uptown, and I didn’t have any trouble finding parallel parking right in front of the building. There’s also a parking lot, but it appeared to be full when I got there. I definitely recommend giving this place a look!

Love the ambiance. The instructors are very helpful especially Chad! Dressing area is small but other than that I enjoyed it.

I was hesitant to start classes here as I don’t tend to have the urge to be around uptowners but this chain is closest to me and to my surprise I found the instructors to be amazing absolutely the sweetest and most welcoming people. Just as good as the other sunstone off of parkwood in frisco. I wasn’t expecting such a pleasant place to practice. I love the rustic loft look while still feeling so clean. Being able to feel clean and refreshed after being in a room with 5 – 10 other sweaty people in a humid hot room (90ish degrees), says something to me about the hygiene. Love love. Got my boyfriend going with me and he loves it as much or more than me! I can’t recommend it to enough people of I tried! If you’re in the uptown area this is the spot for yoga.

My only complaint is that I can’t manage to make it to all the classes that I would like to go to. The staff is all very friendly and helpful!!! Highly recommend… and I’m a yoga newby!

Before you can take any classes you are required to take an intro class — I thought it would be a good basics class but instead it was a sales pitch urging you to sign up that day for a membership. I was hoping to add yoga to my work outs rather than commit only to yoga — unfortunately, they do not offer an option to purchase a set of classes or by class, unless you would like to pay $ 29 for a day pass.
If you are into hot yoga and plan to come regularly, they do offer quite a few class options for hot yoga.
They do have a parking lot next door so you don’t have to worry about trying to find parking in uptown

This is CORPORATE YOGA. This studio has no soul. Anyone seeking anything more than a mild workout in a warm room, beware! The teachers don’t do the poses with you, instead they read from a script as they walk around the room, and even still the instructions are not clear. They also speak through a very loud and un-​relaxing microphone. This is not to mention the high cost and high pressure sales techniques they employ. Nobody needs a yoga studio that claims to know what’s best for you, which these people do constantly. My advice is to stay away.

Love the location and the teachers but man this place is stinky! Nice big studio so there is always enough room for everyone.

I’ll admit — I was hesitant to come to yoga. I had one of those week long passes, and Cat was incredibly accommodating to my «I’m not sure about this granola stuff» attitude.
Fast forward 4 months later, and I’m a convert. I had to miss nearly a month due to illness and travel, and I was welcomed back in with smiles and by name! I noticed IMMEDIATELY a difference in my ability to sleep through the night, not to mention the fact that my legs are no longer tired by my habit of wearing 4″ heels all day long.
The staff at the Uptown location are great and, I feel, truly invested in your practice and well-​being. I may never be a yogi or ensure my hotel has a studio — but I’m happy to call Sunstone my well-​being home.

Been going to Sunstone in Uptown for over a year and am so very pleased with the results I’ve experienced. It’s really made a positive difference in my overall fitness, flexibility and state of mind. The teachers are well-​trained, friendly and professional. I consider this place an essential piece of the taking-​care-​of-​myself pie.

Sunstone is changing my life.
I’m a former athlete, and am prone to stiff muscles etc… started doing the «fire 90» class and have seen my body loosen considerably — lengthening the muscles and beginning to look more like how I remember myself. I’m also now, more often than not, sleeping through the night again, which is HUGE. It’s been like 15 years since I regularly did that.
The fire 90 class is 90 minutes of Bikram style yoga – about 97 degrees and 60% humidity. It’s GREAT for loosening up and having a fighting chance of getting in to some of the positions.
For those who would like instruction, they offer a free instructional fire90 each Saturday and Sunday, I believe at 2pm. It goes slowly, one time only, through each pose, explaining the technique and benefits from it. It’s still the normal hot & humid environment though, so it was a challenge as well.
Most of the teachers are great – inspiring with lots of knowledge.
Try them out, and take back your body!

I’ve been going to Sunstone for a few years now and became addicted quickly. The classes will challenge you and honestly change your life. With that said, the Uptown studio is the worst out of all the chains. The yoga studio smells of mildew so bad some times class is unbearable and the floors are made of plastic so it becomes so slippery and dangerous when you are trying to hold poses and are sweaty from the heated room. I wish they would renovate this location!

LOVED going here! Asraa the instructor is great. She explains each move really well so that you are able to do it correctly and a 100%. Thanks to her, I can now do the triangle pose without hurting my sides! The management there is really nice… they provide the mats and towels so you really can’t make an excuse for not going. :)

I love Sunstone Yoga! I moved to Uptown so that I could walk to this studio! All the instructors are awesome! There are about 6 regular instructors and after going for 2 months, most of them know my name and my friends’ names.
Hot yoga is a great workout. It’s relaxing and I am so happy every time I finish a class.
They recently changed the way they manage memberships. There are 3 tiers varying from $ 29-​$ 109, but they sometimes run specials where you can sign up for a discounted rate. I have the signature membership because you can go to any studio, you get to use a nice blue yoga towel, and you can bring a guest every time you go– however many times you want. I use this feature at least 3 times a week, so I know I made the right choice getting the pricey membership. My friends love going and it helps me stay motivated to be able to bring my boyfriend/​friends :)

The positive thing about this place is that the instructors are pretty good. However, they are always trying to pressure you into getting a membership package if you don’t have one. I am very busy and like to squeeze in a yoga class when I can. I don’t go often enough to pay for a membership package and prefer to pay by the class. The last time I went they let me know that their price for a single class increased $ 12 to a whopping $ 29!!! This is just ridiculous. I guess it’s another way for them to try to pressure people into getting memberships. I liked the location and instructors here but will no longer give my business to this company and would NEVER pay this ridiculous amount for one yoga class. Another case of a company being greedy and caring only about profits, rather than keeping their customers happy.
Oh, and the place smells like a mixture of mold and dirty feet. I got used to it after a while, but when you take a break and go back, it almost takes your breath away.

They have one big room and not enough time to fluctuate the temp between the different classes (fire&wood) and to air it out. It smells like stinky feet most of the time. I recommend the Skillman location. I love that place and all the instructors! Clean and stench free: O)

My first experience with hot yoga was actually at the Bikram studio off Mockingbird. I liked it enough to know I wanted to more… but didn’t like that Bikram studio so I started hunting…
I found Sunstone and I love it! Great location, staff, classes, facilities. This is the best spot for hot yoga!

I guess my review is a little hard pressed for five stars, since this is about the fourth yoga studio I’ve ever been to, BUT I do [heart] this place.
I jumped on their 10 days for $ 10 trail and fell in love. You start out in beginner like courses (hot heat yoga) and work your way up to harder/​different courses. The first class I took I thought I surely sweet all the water out of my body. The goal in your first class is just to make it through the heat.
My goal in yoga, besides becoming bendy, is to meditate. I want to be able to shut everything else in the room and not notice the cute bottoms in front of me in tight yoga shorts. In this studio, I found I was not only able to do that, but found a way to expand my horizons on yoga moves.
The teachers are amazing and patient with new clients. Not everyone is a yogi so don’t feel scared if it’s your first time. it’s all about centering and finding your balance.
The facility is clean, the staff is friendly and the schedule of classes are wonderful. I would highly recommend this studio to anyone in the Uptown area looking for a great yoga studio.
The prices are a little high for a monthly auto-​debit, but you can work your cost down the more you go.
Parking is in a few select spots behind the building and along the streets. You don’t need to bring your own mat and they provide towels. BUT be sure to come with a huge water bottle, because you will need it!

Really welcoming yoga studio. They teachers are nice and attentive. There are 5 different classes you can go to, so there’s something for everyone.
It is HOT in that room though, but that makes for a great workout. It just seems like I’m suffocating at times, but I get through it and feel fabulous after my workout.
