Stevens Park Golf Course

Beautiful course, «a hidden gem.» This course is the cheapest course in DFW which was rated among the best in TX. Not too crowded, either.
It is challenging for all skill levels, and I enjoyed it as a beginner.

Played here a few weeks ago with my boys and really enjoyed it. The pro shop was a nice place. Staff was attentive. The course is pretty open and fun to play.
I wouldn’t call it a challenging course but it’s in nice shape with decently fast greens. I would play here again

I’m not much of a golfer but my best friend, Jordan, is. She loves this course, and drags me along with her sometimes. I say she drags me, because that’s our little joke. I actually adore this course. It is much too difficult for me: like I said, I am NOT a strong golfer. However, I try and we have so much fun! The course is beautiful. It can be a bit noisy from the nearby traffic, but other than that, this course is tops!
The staff are wonderful, and I really enjoy shopping in the Pro Shop. I also love imbibing at the Veranda & Grill. They have a full bar, and Tom loves the cigar selection!

My Father-​in-​Law and I played here last Sunday. The course was in GREAT shape and the pace of play was perfect. They do a great job in accommodating all the traffic they have out here. I would recommend this course! The course has some difficult holes and can really test your game. Take a chance and get out to this course!

Just an amazing experience at this so called muni. I’ve been to private clubs that weren’t as nice as this place. The staff and the facilities were great. The only reason it is not a 5 star was due to the lack of a driving range but that is totally understandable in the middle of the beautiful neighborhood. This is a challenging course but yet forgiving. Very creative with the perfectly round and square greens. Lots of fun. Highly recommend.

1… this is my favorite golf course but trying to set up a time??? its hard! its always full and when you get to play, the staff and marshall are rushing you and telling you to either hurry up or let people thru… let people thru??? when there is a 4some in front of us (2 walkers-​2 riders-​1 lady that cant play??)another 4some behind us and is just 2 of us??? come on!
2…few weeks ago i invited my co-​workers to try out stevens (5some=$ 250 dlls on a sunday morning) everything was going good but after the 11^th hole this staff member/​marshall aproached us and told us that we needed to hurry up a little bit that we were 2 minutes behind pace… after that he killed our game… he kept waiting on us at every hole… that got on my nervs… sometimes i think that they just want your money and thats all, because they will rush you and pressure all the way to the end, cant even enjoy playing there… im glad mesquite golf course just opened up… will be glad to take my $$$ over there and invite my co-​workers to play there as well, sorry city of dallas but you wont make a dollar out of me no more, mesquite will…

Great golf course in a beautiful area of Oak Cliff. Well maintained with some quirkiness.
Very small turkey sub combo very $ 10 is too expensive and they don’t offer burgers.

I play a lot of golf. I go out on my own a lot, because it’s easy to get out golfing when you’re a single, even on a busy weekend. I meet a lot of interesting people that way, too. Many of them are also passionate about golf and like to recommend courses. Several different people on numerous golf outings have mentioned this place — Stevens Park Golf Course. I love trying new golf courses but it can be a little stressful; I dont know the lay of the land, I don’t know what kind of people play there, I don’t know where the bathrooms are (hey — your priorities change as you get older!!). But every once in a while, I suck it up and try a new place.
I was hesistant to go here, because despite the numerous referrals that I try this place, there were very few reviews on Unilocal for it, and zero pictures. I didn’t think it would be very good.
The reason why this course gets 4 stars as opposed to 5, is because it’s on the expensive side, and many holes have a lot of road noise from really busy streets. And while the course condition was generally very good, many tees were just wet mud. Those were really the only drawbacks; the rest of the place was a lot of fun. I showed up on my own about 10:00 am on a busy Saturday and got out within 10 minutes. It cost $ 50 for 18 holes with a cart (that’s expensive for around here!!) but I was willing to see how it was. The facility is great — there are two practice greens around the clubhouse — both in great shape. The pro shop is really well-​stocked. The kicker about the clubhouse was the golf-​cart-​drive-​thru. That blew me away — I’ve never seen that before! But at the turn (after the ninth hole), you get to the 10^th tee by driving up onto and through the patio — like a mini-​drive-​thru for golf carts! I thought that was so cool. But you can park and run in and get a bag of beers or a hot dog or something. You can order a sandwich ahead of time from the 9^th tee, but they weren’t picking up the phone when I went. But I thought that was a neat building.
The course itself is tough. One of the tougher that I’ve played. I didn’t play all that great, but I guess for this difficult course, I did pretty good! The course has a lot of character. It’s hilly (I’d never walk here), there are water hazards and twists and turns. Some holes are wide open, others are really narrow. There are two par-​3s in a row, something I’ve never seen before. Oh — one hole — also something I’ve never seen: You have to hit your second shot UP ONTO A CLIFF. That was CRAZY but I actually DID it! I took a photo of it, but it doesn’t do it justice — it’s like trying to hit your ball up onto a ledge that’s 2 – 3 stories high. If you miss, you’re dead — it’s a cliff-​face. There’s a sign saying you have to drop your ball on top of the cliff if you miss, instead of taking numerous shots to conquer it. That very same hole has an incredible view of Dallas from the green — it’s really neat. That home sitting there must be big bucks. How can I marry into a family with a place like that? Anyhow, overall, it’s a challenging course — it can be a little nerve-​wracking, and it is on the expensive side, but I had a good time and I might try it again someday. Went to Stevens Golf course w/​Son-​In law on St Paddys Weekend. The first time we played golf together was at this course. They have since renovated and it is a very fun course to play with lots of trees and bunkers. The have a fantastic deck with ceiling fans overlooking the course and just by itself would be worth going for a beer and hot-​dog just to take in the scene. The Dallas Downtown Skyline is visible on many of the Holes. Just a wonderful place to spend some time at. Can’t wait to go back again.

This is a great city park! Clean beautiful and fun! Some of the holes are challenging but some offer some great views of downtown. You won’t be disappointed.

Beautiful municipal course in North Oak Cliff. The course offers a challenge to the average to low-​handicap golfer. The rolling hills make it unique for Dallas and the tightness, while at first uncomfortable, quickly turns fun and is an exercise is course management.
The renovation was fantastic and this course offers some incredible views of the Dallas skyline. The clubhouse is beautiful and the 18 hole is amazing!
My ONLY complaint is that this course plays SLOW on the weekends! Too many crappy golfers not playing from the correct tees! I’ve seen another reviewer complaining about the marshals hurrying their game. I’m going to brutally honest-​if you’re fat and out of shape this course can be tough. The hills are awesome! And if you don’t shoot in the 80’s honestly, then play from the front tees!!! The complainers are usually the high-​handicappers playing from the white tees!!! While you can do this on a slow day, rules and common courtesy dictate otherwise.
This is a gem of a course! It is a bargain and the location and beauty are the reason it is so popular.

For my first trip to a Dallas municipal golf course, this was pretty good value. The twilight price of $ 23 (walking) was a steal. The course is VERY tight and pretty short. However, it emphasizes good chipping and putting as the greens are elevated and bunkers are nearby. There are HILLS on every hole, so be prepared for some extreme exercise in the middle of Dallas.
The pro shop was filled with the latest in brand name equipment. They do have a putting and chipping green, however no driving range.
This is a quick 18 holes, but beware, it is CROWDED on the weekend.

This is one of my favorite courses to play! They renovated this course and I must say it Is beautiful. The club house, pro shop, restaurant, and scenery is awesome! Very affordable. There are short greens and tight fairways but my friend who has a high handicap was able to come and enjoy his experience here. Helpful staff. Most impressive with the maintenance of the course. It truly is one of the top 5 places in Dallas to go and play. Most definitely coming back here again. Recommend highly

They’re lucky they are getting two stars… It’s more like one and a half but I’ll round up.
Pros… The golf course is well kept and plays pretty well.
Cons… The staff are jack asses!!! OK you work at a public course, not a fancy country club… So get a grip on yourselves… It was 100 degrees outside and I’m a big guy, when I play golf I like to relax, I’m not in a hurry and I’m out there to have fun… But being told to hurry 5 different times when there was NO ONE behind me was irritating as all can be!!! Had I not been sweating and already short of energy from the sun beating down on me I would have beat down on that so called golf pro…
Another pro… Not a lot of people out there and actually played fairly fast considering we were there on a Sunday! But then again that could have been because it was so damn hot outside… How are you supposed to play golf in the summer in Texas? Please tell me…

Play the newly renovated course this past weekend. I have played all over the metroplex and I have to say I’m thoroughly impressed.
1) Price: paid $ 45 for Saturday morning tee-​time. On par with other public courses
2) Course condition: the fairways are nice and the greens are larger than most courses. It also putts very true and will challenge you with various undulations.
3) Challenging with many dog legs and will require accuracy and strategy. Plenty of green side bunkers that will force you to play a variety of shots.
4) Food: excellent service and the hot dogs were fresh off the grill.
5) Speed of play was about 4:15 hours, very good for a weekend round. Groups are separated well and they don’t try to overbook their tee times like many golf courses.

Golf in the City just got better! Being a native Dallasite and an avid golfer Stevens Park Golf Course has always been on my list of golf courses to play. Being a muni-​course it placed low on the list but that might have to change after the round I played on the Newly renovation and designed course.
It is good to see an old course modernize. Stevens is still a short course by today’s golf standards but having played the round with a couple of long hitters it really challenges the long drivers with the three or for times a long drive is needed. It is a tight course but very fair… if you play the correct tees.
The front nine did not change much. However, the back nine looked to change on every hole making the experience of playing the new design FUN! The back nine had some very clear views of the Downtown Dallas skyline. bring a camera.
In talking to a few other groups playing the course I was told it is not advisable to play the course on the weekends if you are not use to playing 6+ hour rounds of golf. Stevens’ low green fees bring in the golfers of all skill levels and they pack the course on the weekend. SOOOO, to enjoy the redesign of course for the first time it is advisable to play in the morning during the week.
The only gig for Stevens was not on the course or outside facilities, but with the Grill. What No Burgers… They took the Grill out. when asked why I just got a shrug from the attendant. The burgers at Stevens use to be worth betting on and now it is just sandwiches and hot dogs. BLAH!
Other than that… I’ll be back with a posse to play Stevens.

Tucked in the hills — yes, HILLS (and trees) — of Kessler Park in South Dallas, Stevens Park is a great little neighborhood golf course. It’s currently under construction ($ 7 million face-​lift) but plans to reopen Fall 2011. I’ve probably played golf here 50 times and, while it’s not a terribly difficult golf course, it’s a great place to play because it’s laid back, cheap green fees and beers are cheap too.
Very short golf course at just over 6,000 yards but I hear that they’re lengthening many of the holes during the construction work. It’s also a great place to play because of the old neighborhood setting, big old trees and the hills. Stays pretty well watered but fairways can get a little hard during the heat of the summer.
Twilight rate when the days are long is the way to go, something like $ 12. Only cons I can think of are short course length and holes are right on top of one another, so you better keep an eye out for errant shots and always duck when you hear «FORE!!!»
