St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store of Dallas

Because this is the only place I can leave a comment about St Vincent de Paul as a whole, here it goes. What they say and what they do are two different things. Love thy neighbor? If making a home visit to see how they can further assist you in your time of need and they feel the need to call CPS then we have problems. I am in disbelief. Think twice before you ask for their help. God don’t like ugly and they are ugly

This is an incredible win win. You find great prices on all kinds to thrift store items, then on top of it you are contributing wonderfully to an institution that does all kind of good for the communities it serves. It is a pleasure to spend at this wonderful institution.

For this store to be this big it’s very empty. Things that we’re ok were grossly overpriced. Definitely not worth the drive. I did see some nice furniture but sadly I won’t make this trek again.

This is a great place for browsing through items you would find at garage sales in middle class neighborhoods. Items are well organized, clean, and appear to be in good working order. Staff move about the large open space placing new items and generally organizing. The staff at the register are incredibly polite and really good at moving customers through the line. Don’t forget to apply for your loyalty card! I found great deals and selection on picture frames.

I purchased many designer tops at low prices. Very clean, organized and helpful staff. Parking right behind store and I felt safe inside and outside.
I volunteer many hours at Genesis Benefit Thrift is Dallas. St. Vincent De Paul Thrift has impressed me! I will be back with friends!

Gave this place another chance since they were offering the $ 5 off for checking in. I had not been here since last summer, and was surprised on how organized and clean this place. Items are moderately priced. As we were looking around someone came out on the intercom system requesting an employee (which they are call by #) go to the meeting room «now.» At first we (customers)thought it was a joke, so we kind of laughed it off. Next thing we know we here the person come on 4 more times requesting the employee to go «now.» I know that this is a thrift store but it is still a business. I hope that whoever is on the other end of the intercom, will be more professional with their employees.

Sometimes you just have to leave well enough alone. They have totally redone this store… grrrr things are now unorganized and scattered… very disappointing. I’ve been shopping here for 4 yrs and for the most part I loved it… great buys organized… Now I just threw my hands in the air…

I will start by saying that I am a proud member of a thrifting tribe. My grandmother took me to thrift stores for as long as I could remember. I wore army uniforms and 40’s suits as a teen in the 80’s (when you could get them for dirt cheap). My obsession is strong, it’s imbedded in my soul. My prom dress was a vintage 1950’s dress, when it was totally uncool to wear used, vintage, thrift shop goods. The thing about thrift stores is 9 times out of 10, they are hit or miss. Like anything else, the more you go the better your chances are of finding great finds.
Now that they are popular, they are totally over priced! But I recently needed a thrift store ‘fix’ so I decided to go into SVDP. Lo and behold, I hit the jackpot! Dries Van Noten, Vintage YSL and the hippest Denim jumpsuit (think mechanic suit) you could imagine. With the managers special, I paid $ 16 for all three.
Caution, I may not score like this for a while, you may not score like this, but c’mon, doesn’t this make you want to run out and go to St. Vincent de Paul this weekend?!

If you think great about this thrift store
1. They know how to price their thrift products. They are not overpriced so you can find some really great deals to repurpose and be kind to the environment
2. Its a church based group so I think the money goes to charity and that makes me feel good.
3. The best section is the home goods. My last trip I was able to stock up on wine glasses at 65 cents each why would anybody want to spend more? Another visit I got an awesome vintage lamp that was half off because of a sale.
4. They have a daily sale on particular sections of the store. I haven’t dug in to see if there is a schedule but when I go in I always know something will be on sale and that’s where you can get rock bottom great deals
5. If you don’t like to dig there’s usually four racks at the front of the store with the better quality clothes that are name brand. Sure they’re priced a little higher but its a thrift store so the prices are still really good
6. They have a section of new products which seem to mostly be household cleaning type products but are generic brands. I don’t usually shop that section but it’s there so just another thing that makes the store better than others
7. There is a jewelry and quality products in a glass case section. I rarely stop to browse because I’m usually in a hurry but if I had the time I bet there are some real nice vintage pieces to be had

This is the best place to shop for great deals on furniture, designer clothing/​accessories and book. I only go when I get a text for their 40% off entire purchase and towards the end of the day when they sometimes give extra discounts.
People have commented on their location but one thing they overlook are the wealthy individuals who donate their last season goods to this establishment. We are talking folks from the Lemmon Ave/​Preston Rd maybe even Northpark area.
Got some fab Calvin Klein loafers for $ 7, black leather kitten heel Cole Hahn pumps (never worn) for $ 13. I see plenty of Coach purses and one Chanel. Granted my biggest score was an Ashley furniture recliner, super comfy, for $ 2.
Love this place and I am thankful that I don’t live closer otherwise I would frequent it more often.

Hit or miss! If you are in the mood to dig and scavenger then this place is awesome. I have found Oscar De La Renta for less than five bucks but then a Target brand for more than Target clearance so its a hit or miss. Unilocal has a coupon (said in a Broadway singing voice) so use it wisely. Check the website for deals.
They also sell new religious items so its a great stop for Easter, baptism, communion
Parking is ok but this place is not in the best neighborhood so lock your car and take your belongings.
They have carts at the front door before you go in.
Fitting rooms are a plus, six item minimum I believe it is. So you risk your stuff and cart walking off if you don’t use a buddy system when trying on clothes.
Not sure if they have restrooms.
Great stop in the thrifting highway.

This review is from a male point of view, and in regard to clothing only. Since I don’t shop for women’s, it may not apply directly to you. On a budget? Great place to find cheap (er) deals on some things, even some name brands, and higher scale ones at that. But like a lot of «for profits», they pay way too much attention to a label, and not the actual item quality. The store needs better vetting in my opinion. Flippers will be somewhat disappointed. Not much to flip here, save an occasional vintage piece or quality piece that has somehow escaped the evaluator. I have salvaged a few nice finds here, but it’s not high on my priority list of sources. Once every three months at most, just to let the stock turnover sufficiently.

What has happened to St Vincent in the past year? They used to have daily deals and discounts. Now, they dont have as many and when they do, its on stuff you dont want to buy. In the past, all the mens blazers, shirts and pants were priced the same, now, they are all over the board. Some items are more expensive here than at Neimans… Whats wrong with that? Whoever is doing the pricing is gouging people. This is supposed to be a thrift store that helps the local needy. Instead, it appears it has turned into a for profit business. I used to love shopping here and recommended this place to everyone. Now, I can barely afford it. I cannot shop here anymore. Its sad when you cannot shop at a thrift store due to high prices… I will go to Goodwill and Salvation Army instead. At least they price items accordingly. Is that too much to ask? Please go back to your old ways… I have had customers tel me they cannot afford this place. Is it more important to be exclusive or to help the community? Wow…

Okay selection of clothes, they have quite a lot of «basics» and my god it’s so cheap. I’m talking I saw price tags that said, «$ 3.97».
Although I didn’t see anything I needed/​wanted, I wouldn’t mind going back to this place again.

It’s well worth digging through all the things at this place because you never know when a random piece of Givenchy or Pink or Hugo Boss will show up. There are always plenty of mid-​tier pieces from Banana Republic, JCrew, and so on. Men’s selection is fairly decent but the women’s is huge.
I would say the housewares section is pretty much a waste of time, though.

This place has absolutely lost their minds!!! The prices are outrageous! This stuff is used and was given away for the most part. The most shocking price point was actually for «new» items. The store had a collection of white Fossil watches (clearly unused). In knowing how Fossil operates, these were likely a donation of discontinued items. The same watches can actually be found at Ross and TJ Maxx for $ 29.99-$ 39.99. This place had the nerve to charge $ 79.99 for the $ 120 watch!!! Its at a thrift store crazies!
I actually didn’t even buy anything and they can thank their outspoken loyal customers for that. As I was about to try and dig through the overpriced, poorly organized, highly cluttered racks, I overheard a «regular» talking to the staff about an upcoming 40% off sale that they sent via email. Even though 40% off of $ 19.99 everything isn’t that great I would rather spend my time digging on those days than any other.
Less than impressed!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this place. It’s HUGE and FILLED with bargains. What is there to complain about? Plus, your purchases help the community… and if you don’t like helping the community, well I’m sure you kick puppies and pinch babies.
Shame on you.

This review is for the thrift store and the elotes/​concessions stand outside. 2-​for-​1!
STORE: They seem to run a different discount everyday of the week, which can save you an additional 40% on specific items like jewelry or clothes if that’s the day’s special. What sets this store apart from other thrift stores is that there are some brand new still-​packaged items which are heavily discounted like kitchen utensils, party supplies and gift bags, toothbrushes, and kitchen cleaners. The rest of the store carries donated clothes, shoes, kitchen appliances, random useless baubles. I thought the overall quality of the thrifted items was poor (i.e. the clothes were unflattering and ugly, some household items looked broken, and some items looked dirty). The layout is also subpar. The clothes are looooosely organized by function (e.g. pants, shirts) and then loooosly organized by color, and I don’t have the patience to dig through 5 room-​length racks of «shirts».
The Salvation Army on Inwood/​Harry Hines has a much better selection of used clothes, in my opinion. I would probably only come back to St. Vincents to get cheap party plates, streamers, and giftbags. And maybe a statuette of Virgin Mary.
ELOTES ($ 2.50): I couldn’t resist trying out a new elotes cart! From the signs posted all around this stand, they seem to also serve hotdogs, chili, nachos, and an assortment of vending machine candies and snacks. The elotes from the cob, which the guy shaves to order (yay!). But overall the elotes are about a 2.5÷5 for it’s imbalance of ingredients like mayo and butter, which made the elotes take on a chowder-​y consistence… yep a mayo corn chowder. Bleh!

I like shopping here b/​c I know that my purchases will be used to help the community. They provide ESL classes, financial assistance, and other help in the community.
The store always has a fresh collection of clothes, furniture, home décor, and more. My wife and I love shopping here often.

I have been wanting to come by this place for a while, so when Man Friend wanted to go thrift shopping we came here! I think I was expecting more since it has been rated one of the top thrift stores in Dallas, but I was not blown away.
The place is huge with a tiny section of kitchen ware, big selection of women’s fashion (don’t think top fashion, more like eh), small selection of men’s clothes, really cute little library area, and small section of home furnishings.
We moseyed through the clothes area, but found nothing good enough to try on. We spent most of the time in the kiddie game section and library (huge surprise) than anywhere else. I found a game for 2 bucks called «L.A. Game — Be seen in all of the right places, wear all of the right clothes, have all of the right friends, or lose.» Um SOLD. I can’t wait to play it. Bwahaha
I think I’ll skip this place next time. But try it out for yourself.
