St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church

I usually attend the 11am service. This is the most traditional mass I have attended in my entire life as a Catholic. The church is beautiful, and the traditional choir gives you goose bumps. I came from a more progressive parish, and this particular church is old school. Please note, I am only writing this review based on a mostly 11am mass attendance. The church is semi hidden in a neighborhood. There is street parking, and a lot around the back. People seem friendly and the priests are very welcoming.

Converting to Catholicism has to be the most arduous task in the world compared to what you must do to become Protestant or Muslim. Ten minutes max and boom– you have your new membership and card number. Alas, the Catholic Church has you take classes from September-​May to ensure that you are entering into the covenant with full understanding of the faith and the church itself. Pretty smart idea honestly. If you are like me, then you have to do RCIA classes which means that you are committing to one evening a week out of your busy schedule come rain or shine. Originally, I was hoping to complete my RCIA classes at my Dad’s parish, but their schedule just did not work with my client’s schedule. Here enters St. Thomas Aquinas.
I was not sure what to expect, but I must say that this congregation, the deacons, RCIA group leaders, and the fantastic seminarians have exceeded any expectations I could have ever had. I was so surprised. I always feel welcome and that is not something that I typically experience being such an offbeat, eclectic person. I also like that they embrace the intellectual side of me that questions so many things and unlike the Baptist Church, I am able to question openly things that I see as a hypocrisy without being seen as a heretic. Why does that matter so much to me? Because it speaks volumes regarding the type of parishioners, priests, congregants, and seminarians that they attract. I truly feel like I am accepted and matter, and although this is still rather new to me in many ways because I am not being asked to change or cover up my body art, I truly do love it. Now with that said, I will say that this church is not the prettiest, and man they have some super white Jesus’. You’d think the whole Bible took place in Norway. LOL!

My wife and I attended Sunday Mass here while in Dallas for a wedding. The church is very beautiful and the tabernacle is behind the alter where it belongs. Mass was celebrated in a reverent manner, the way it should be celebrated. Preaching was true to the Magisterium of the Church. I would definitely attend Mass here again if I am ever in Dallas.

We’ve been parishioners at STA for well over 10 years now, and both my children are students at this Blue Ribbon awarded school. We are thankful to be members of the St. Thomas Aquinas family, and we look forward to contributing our time and talent to this wonderful community for years to come.
