So Kong Dong Tofu House

Surrounded by sketchy «massage parlors» and other completely unmarked businesses, this unassuming restaurant provides tasty food at reasonable prices. Not an extensive menu for vegetarians, but you get the impression they know all of their ingredients and make good recommendations. Would come back!

Coming here expected the same old tofu house I went to a year ago but everything changed, even the menu looked completely different. I had the mixed tofu soup and it was not very good, it had no shrimp, some fake crab, cubed beef and a couple shells. Tasted like some instant flavor packaged food. Not coming back for sure now. Also, we were rushed to ordered, the server lady could have told us not to come in when they wanted to close instead of seating us and rushed us to dead to order and get out. Sad experience. Service wasn’t good before but this helped me not miss it anymore.

I went here for the first time last weekend and the price isn’t all that bad. For a combo, you get a tofu soup (you choose the flavor/​type) and you also get a small plate of galbi too. They give you the usual types of banchan dishes as other Korean restaurants, but they were very generous when you ask for more.
Our server was a very sweet lady who was very polite as well. You usually don’t get that type of good service at Korean restaurants in the DFW area (at least not the ones I’ve been too.) I’d definitely go back for more!

This is my go-​to place for good soondubu. I first tried this place about 6 years ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since! I usually order the beef soondubu + galbi combo, which is more than enough food to fill me. The soondubu is some of the best I’ve had (even compared to a bunch of places in LA) – the broth is rich and flavorful, the tofu is very fresh, and they give a nice quantity of beef inside. They serve the galbi on a bed of grilled onions on a hot plate, and it’s absolutely delicious. Plus, the banchan (side dishes) are good too, and they even give each person a small whole fried fish. Not located in the best part of town, but I’ve never had any issues!

First time being here,-and it was a little confusing to find but eventually we stumbled onto it in the corner of a shopping center. It’s definitely a hidden gem! The side dishes were delicious and it didn’t seem like something that was just thrown together like some Korean restaurants are. Along with the regular side dishes like kimchi and pancake, we were served a little fried fish which my friends and I were completely in love with.
After all the side dishes were served, we got our tofu soup which came bubbling. I got a medium spicy seafood beef tofu soup. The spiciness was perfect and the seafood and beef went so well together. It was very filling and satisfying.
The service I felt like could be a little better. We pretty much always had empty water glasses on the table, and I felt a little intimidated by the server/​owner. She didn’t seem to happy to be taking care of our group though I wouldn’t see why.
Overall the food was delicious! The service wasn’t terrible. I would definitely bring friends back.
P. S. The kimchi pancake is DELICIOUS

Hidden from the streets and tucked away into a small plaza on the notorious Harry Hines, this restaurant looks a little sketch from the outside with its blacked out windows. But inside is quite legit– traditional Korean roofs, wooden panels, super spacious, good food, terrific service, but there were almost no diners there during our meal! Whyyyyy? Conundrum.
The food is good– the usual side dishes, an egg to drop into any tofu stews you ordered, and my seafood beef tofu stew had lots of clams and mussels (no squid and only 1 shrimp if you’re looking for those!). Our waitress was the nicest older Korean lady ever! :D
They scoop rice out of the stone pot into a separate bowl for you, so you don’t get the crispy rice at the end, but I’m sure if you asked them that they would leave it inside the pot. Then they pour barley tea onto the crispy rice stuck on the pot so you can eat it like porridge when the rice comes off the sides! I’ve only recently seen this done at NYC~ not sure how I feel about it, since it tastes like old people breath (not a fan of tea!) o₀″
If you’re on the prowl for some Korean food that’s easy on the wallet, check this place out! :)

Wow, what a find! I found this awesome place looking for another restaurant nearby my job., and I’m so glad that I found this one instead. Their vegetarian selections are limited… but, they do work with you on creating a vegetarian version of any of their dishes that they offer on their menu. So, I tried their Tofu Bibimbap dish and to tell the truth, it was delicious. My waitress helped me big time on how to prepare the dish with all of fixings that they provide. I truly recommend this hidden gem to anyone that’s seeking Korean food around the Harry Hines area.
Con: It’s somewhat hidden and can be easily missed if you’re not from this area.

I love this place. I and my team always do lunch in here for every Wednesday. We usually got the combo with BBQ and some spicy soups. The side dishes is so delicious, especially the fried fish. I just wish I can get some soju right here, that would be more than awesome!

Used to love this place but they keep changing owners for some reason and the food gets worse every time. Not really worth the price with the proportions they give you. Wouldn’t come back here unless it was my last option. The place is really hidden, you can’t even see it because it’s all the way in back and there’s a huge store blocking it.

Pretty good but hard to find place. Plenty of appetizers as other Korean places do, too. Compared to Omi, I have to give this place 3-​star.

My go to place got awesome Tofu soup if I am ever in the area!
The location itself is sort of hard to locate, it’s in the very back of a random shopping center, but the restaurant itself doesn’t look shady & the décor is nice inside.
I always get the Tofu/​BBQ combo. And you absolutely cannot beat the price for 14.99!
They serve the regular side dishes but what makes this place different is they start you off with a fried little fish (I’m assuming mackerel) before serving you your meal.
I always ask for my tofu soup spicy & they don’t disappoint! The bbq is Galbi & the meal itself will leave you satisfied and full.
Service is great! They always check on us at the right times and the ladies are very sweet. Love this place & would recommend to anyone

The place is located in a dead area of Harry Hines but the inside is very nicely done and well maintained. We got the seafood tofu ($ 7.95) and kal noodles ($ 9.99). The tofu was good with a fair amount of seafood pieces but the taste was missing something. It wasn’t terrible but I’ve had better. The kal noodles was almost tasteless. It had lots of clams but it clearly wasn’t fresh. It was probably frozen. It was missing the chives and onions I’m used to in kal nooldes as well. It wasn’t worth it for me. They brought out around 7 sides but they didn’t all taste good.
The service was a little better than the average Korean restaurant. The waitress was friendly and helpful when we asked for things.
Overall, it’s not a bad choice but there are better tasting places, but this one is cheap.

for Dallas they have pretty good soondooboo
i had some good bahn chans and for $ 7.99 lunch special I was satisfied.
I had their beef tofu medium spicy btw, yeah yeah yeah I’m a wimp lol

Wonderful soup.
For eight dollars, you get all the goodies. Your tofu dish comes with a fresh fried fish, appetizers and your tofu soup.
The waiters may not speak English, no problem. They know to call someone else to the table.
The food is great, this is quite literally a little hole in the wall.
But with great food.

A really nice, middle of the road Korean restaurant. Complete with the little push bell that summons the wait-​person when you need him/​her.
They do sides well, they do soups well.
I just liked it and the pricing is great.

I don’t know how to even rate it right… The food is OK but it wont make say WOW, and if you like Korean food you probably ate better then this.
But still, the food wasn’t bad at all. The place looks clean and waiter was always available and nice. The price is reasonable. I will go back there probably for a lunch rather to dinner with friend…

This was my second visit to this place. It is hidden and you really need to pay attention if you are coming on Denton Dr. You are really coming to the «back» of the restaurant. Harry Hines would be easier to find it.
I had bibimbap, it was good but there was almost no beef in it, little disappointing. I mean I couldn’t find any at all to be more precise but the flavors were good. I also tried bulgogi, very flavorful, and dumplings (giant and delicious!) A friend ordered steamed and I tried. It has more dough than a gyoza and have a delicious filling (beef).
The place is very nice– I like Korean places in general. Very clean, decoration is simple but really nice. Service was great (we were in about 25 people and although my dish took some time it was not a big deal). They have all those delicious small dishes like kimchee, sweet potato and other vegetables to keep you entertained!
I would go back for sure!

No frills but authentic Korean food in Dallas in a non descript location. Heavy smell when you walk in the front door. Fish? Making tofu? Not sure.
Anyway, I enjoyed the food and portions are large. The house specialty tofu soup was excellent (and spicy!). Had mine with dumplings.
Sampled many things including hot pot bibimbap with rice and veggies, a spicy noodle dish, short ribs and vegetable dumplings. Everything was good!
They also bring assorted small dishes of kimchee and other goodies, as well as a fried fish per person.
Prices were inexpensive for the quality and portion sizes. Service was very friendly and efficient.

Both my husband and I love Korean food and have tried many Korean restaurants in the area. The food at this place was really good– definitely one of the best!
The banchan was plentiful, including Japchae (glass noodles with vegetables) and potatoes which I love. They also made a vegetable pancake (pa jun) for us, which was huge and delicious! We jokingly called it «Korean style deep dish pizza».
As a vegetarian, I almost always ordered the dolsot bibimbap w/​o beef. I love my bibimbap so much that I have not tried their sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew) yet– someday I will. :)

This place has a special place in my heart. It was at this place that I tried naeng myun (cold noodles in an icy broth) for the first time – i was smitten!
So yeah, as the name of the establishment suggests, it’s specializes in soondubu (which is definitely good here), but I do really dig the naeng myun; I haven’t had better naeng myun in the DFW area since then, so I am very loyal to this establishment. I recommend ordering it in a combo with kalbi (around $ 14). Very reasonable and well worth it.
The naeng myun (the noodles which I believe are made from buckwheat) came in a lucid/​transparent icy broth, with the pickled vegetables, hardboiled egg, and topped with a slice of pear or apple. It tastes good, especially on a warmer day. it’s a pretty distinctive dish; I haven’t had a similar noodle dish in any other asian cuisine. The kalbi is also very good, it comes with raw onions which cooks on the sizzling plate it’s served on. Very nicely done.
It’s kind of hard place to find from the road, but just trust your instincts; seek and you shall find.
