Rico’s Elotes Fanny

Okies, I’m not sure if it’s because I’m getting used to the elotes by my house or this place went downhill ever since my last visit. This used to be my favorite place to get elotes! Always fresh and great condiments but I was very disappointment in the taste last night. It overall tasted very sour and way too much heavy mayo or whatever cream was used. It didn’t have that umami taste, just overall creamy and sour. But I took it home and microwaved it and it tasted a lot better. Maybe it was too cold or the temperature was off, but I questioned myself a few times since this really is the best place ;-;

Hands down best corn in a cup in Dallas. This isn’t your typical corn in a can crap where your cup is more water than corn. Fuel city corn is closer to me but I’d rather make the drive for something better if I’m gonna have a small heart attack in a cup!

I’ve had street corn at a few different places but Rico’s is the best by far in all regards taste, service and price. No cons and only pros for this place. Worth a try even if it’s your first time eating street corn. I’m hooked for life!

This is some good corn. I don’t know what the sauce is called… I asked the guy standing next to the stand (he was helping interpret for the young lady working there) and he said «Drinking Salsa.» I laughed and whole heartedly agreed. This stuff was delicious. She took the corn right off the cob and put squeezable butter? was that crème fraîche I saw? a little queso fresco and then you get to top it off with the sauce (s) and condiments of your choice — from garlic salt to lemon juice to an extremely tongue burning Atomic XXX hot sauce, or the «Drinking Salsa» which would be the death of me if I had a case at home. My tip: ask to put the salsa/​sauce in the bottom of the cup before she puts in the corn if you like extra sauce (because it’ll be too full at the end to do more than top it off with a smidge). Good stuff.

Corn is the only thing they sell and they do it well. It’s a super small stand which can fit two people minimum but you don’t need a huge stand to sell corn. The guys who work the stand are super nice and are quick. I love that they have so many different sauces and toppings where you can customize the corn yourself. I always get a couple large orders and always regret not getting an extra order so I can have leftovers. I just wish they were closer to home but for corn this good I don’t mind making the 30-​minute drive to satisfy a craving. Plus, it gives me an excuse to stop by the taco stand to get some tacos which are also really really good!

If you’re here for the ghetto tacos, you have grab some of the ghetto corn as well. It’s quite simple food actually. You have your corn, sour cream, butter, cheese and a guaranteed trip to the hospital. They have plenty of sauces at your disposal as well, a first when it comes to these corn stands (for me anyway). This is pretty comparable to the corn stand at Fuel City, but for some reason it taste better and here’s why.
You have options that include 3 different sizes for $ 1.25, $ 2.50, and $ 5 bucks from smallest to largest. The small is a 8oz cup, the medium is a 16oz cup, and the big cahuna is 40oz.
Then you have your endless possibilities of sauces ranging from your standard stuff you find at IHOP to Sriracha say whaa? Then they have their 5 signature sauces with one that is labeled Atomic XXX. This I had to try. Maybe its because I’m a pussy when it comes to spicy foods, but this stuff had me in tears in after couple of bites. It could also be I added a bite more than I could handle. Good thing is my sinuses were a bit better after I miraculously finished it.
As I stated in my review for El Tacaso, parking is a biatch and you really don’t want to park next to the trees. Just trust me on this. All in all a great experience. I will definitely come again to fulfill my ghetto appetite.
