Pep Boys

Extremely slow service! I was told 20 – 30 minutes until they could get to my car. Waited over an hour before It moved out of its parking space. I have been waiting over 3 hours now. I have not once been approached with an update and I am the only one in the waiting area. I see employees/​technicians chatting in groups and playing on their phones. No one speaks to me about what is going on.
I have asked the front desk guy 3 times for an ETA. When he does finally look up from the computer, he doesn’t give an kind of answer. This place is extremely unprofessional and has a lazy employee base. Management needs to take a hard look at the environment here.

These guys were great. Replaced my battery at a fair price and checked my girlfriends squeaky brakes. Battery works great and they told us the brakes didnt need to be replaced, just condensation. A lot of shops would have just replaced the pads regardless. I was impressed.

Rolled into Pep Boys this morning as mu car died and waited for the store to open. I was greeted by Victor who did an analysis of the battery and let me know it needed replaced. He also checked my alternator and let me know it was okay. I received prompt and friendly service and got the car ready and was out the door in under an hour. Highly recommend and will be back! Fantastic customer service. My fiancé and I took both of our cars in today for separate reasons. He needed a new tire and alignment, and I needed to check my engine light and get a state inspection. They didn’t have the lowest priced tire in stock for him, so they gave us a better quality one for the same price. They also helped us find a separate part we needed elsewhere for a low price. I will be picking up my car tomorrow after a diagnostics test, and my fiancé was incredibly satisfied with the work done on his vehicle. All in all, I will definitely be returning! 4-​stars only because they’re a little slow, but the only thing it changes for me is knowing that I’ll delegate more time during the day for the next auto repair. Hard to leave 1 star in good conscience!
Booked appointment in advance for oil change. Printed coupon as prompted by website. Received confirmation text and reminder — Yeah! Arrived on-​time, waited for service rep to acknowledge me after he completed his discussion with four mechanics hanging out in the AC service desk area. When he saw the coupon, he immediately said, «It’ll be 3 hours before we can do an oil change.» Boooo! 8-​(
I stated that I made an appointment and he interrupted with, «on-​line?»
He snickered and smugly stated, «It’ll be AT LEAST 3 hours. We’re really busy!»
PRO QUICK LUBE around the corner at 1020 N Westmoreland offered terrific service and had me out in 15 minutes, SMILING! Yeah, Yeah! 8-​)
UPDATE: Manager called and left message. Tried to call him back — was forwarded to service counter and same sales rep Victor placed me on hold. I hung up after 4:30 wait.
Recieved reply on Unilocal telling me they realize my time is important and asking me to call if I was interested in discussing. HA! Shame I had to leave ONE star!

My husband took our car in for an oil change yesterday (on my birthday & our anniversary). Once they did the oil change, which we discovered we had no oil at all, and somehow no damage (prayer works), they checked out the rest of the car. We knew it needed work, but didn’t have the money for it at the time as it was quite costly. However, they worked with us, and got everything fixed that needed to be done. They just couldn’t let us leave like that… it was that bad. The guys there spent all evening working on our car, knowing we needed it to get to work in the morning. They did everything, and got us the best parts so we wouldn’t have to worry for quite a while. The guys at this Pep Boys location are amazing, honest mechanics. I will use them every time from now on. They gave us such a wonderful birthday/​anniversary present! Thanks guys! Y’all rock!!!

Don’t know where to begin. First impressions are everything.
I came here recentely to have my tires replaced. I did some searching online before-​hand to find the best deal for a good set of new tires, and PepBoys seemed to be the place. I’ve always gone to NTB previously, but PepBoys had a promotion going that was competitive compared to what NTB was offereing at the time. I felt like I got what I paid for…
Before I drove to the store, I ordered and scheduled my tires and service online. The website said they had a 3pm opening. Great! Took it down around 2pm as I had a 3pm meeting. Was gonna drop it off. I walk in, and there’s not a single person at the service counter, or even the registers in the store area. Not one. I was literally walking all around the store trying to find someone. Some of the mechanics on the service floor saw me kind of looking around for someone to help me, but not one of them seemed to care or attempted to alert anyone that I was needing help. Took about 4 – 5 minutes before anyone came inside. It was a gentlemen who was looking at someone else’s car outside, however, as he was still helping them, he didn’t even acknowledge me or say «I’ll be with you in just a minute.» or anything to indicate that he was going to be the one to help me out. He was silent, and just kept me hanging thinking I was invisible.
Once he did get to me he was cordial, albeit kind of slow. I told him I scheduled the service and showed him the email confirmation. He couldn’t find it in the system. Ok? He didn’t even really look at my email confirmation or order number on it to try and find it that way. So he just manually entered all the info I «ordered» online. Once he punched everything in, he said «Oh, that’s not the price I’m showing on my side…» (referencing the quoted price online that I have confirmed in my email). I told him I came here because of the price I was quoted online and showing available at this store. Someone worked some magic and when I checked out at the end, it was the right price. Fine. He also said they wouldn’t be able to get it in at 3 as the website said when I scheduled. What’s the point of the online ordering and scheduling then?
Back at work while my car was at PepBoys, I get a call. They asked, «What tire were you wanting replaced???» suggesting I only was getting 1. It was supposed to be all 4. At this point, I’ve lost all hope in the competence of this place, and worry about what’s going to happen to my car in the process. Later in the day, it also took me calling them to find out my car was done and ready to go. They said they tried to call me, but looking at my call-​log, they didn’t. No VM’s, or missed calls.
When I get there, there are a few people ahead of me, and the same gentlemen is working the counter. Again… cordial, but no sense of hustle. Probably took 10 – 12 minutes waiting for all parties to checkout ahead of me. I pay for the service. Original quoted price. Thank goodness. Since I got my tires replaced I also had an alignment done. I asked if I could have the sheet reflecting the aligment numbers. His response, «Oh, well, that machine out there that does the alignments isn’t printing right now… it’s a special print out… but you can come in within the next 3 months and have it done again for free.» Really? Nobody is going to record that info down for me then? I’m supposed to come back again if I want the numbers? Given the experience I’ve already had, I honestly question whether it was even done, and I definitely am not interested in coming back at this point. I specifically wanted the numbers, as my regular local mechanic shop noticed my compliance bushings were needing to be replaced soon, and they wanted to see the alignment numbers to help diagnose if the suspension is getting «tired». But now I’ll have to take more time out to go another alignment just so I can get a printout.
Only reason this place is getting 2 stars from me is because the gentlemen was nice, and the work got done (alignment, who knows). Maybe it was just a bad day for them, but I’ll definitely be returning to NTB after this, even if it costs a little more.

The sign on the counter says Free Installation of «most» batteries. My battery was under warranty and while it was free of charge I was told that my car had a $ 23 install charge because it was put in at an angle and therefore required a charge that could not be overridden. When I called the original store they told me the charge is at the complete discretion of the manager and could have been waived.

From a customer service stand point Steve who I believe to be the manager is extremely helpful. Displayed above and beyond customer service to me on my first visit. Thank you Steve!

Great place for all of your auto needs. great, friendly and helpfull staff. huge store with lots of variety.

Brakes were squeaking from prior brake job and I took it back. Despite the fact I drive the car everyday and deal with the annoying squeaking, I was told everything was fine and the noise goes away (it doesn’t). They recommended I buy higher grade brake pads.
Lying to me and trying to upsell me? Moving along.

I would give these guys less than a one star but since that is the lowest, I’ll give them that. Here is an example of dishonesty and how these guys could have taking advantage of me. I noticed that my car was leaking so I brought it in for inspection which was $ 35.00 and that’s fair enough. The guy comes back with a detailed report of a bad water pump, bad thermostat, and also recommending to change the serpentine built and the compressor drive built. His estimate was $ 715.76 which sounded a little high. After reviewing his proposal line item by line item I realized that they are charging $ 60.00 for a warranty which is not needed since the parts come with a one year warranty. That made me suspicious and I told him that I’m going to go price shopping at which point he offered me a %10 «special discount». After picking his proposal further and ten minutes later the cost dropped from $ 715.76 to $ 465.00. That sounds like a fair deal but if these guys were honest that’s the original price that they should have offered. I agreed to the service at the revised price. While waiting, out of curiosity I decided to see how much they sale the parts and how much he had quoted me. The Bush water pump was $ 94.99 and they charged me $ 117.75. The thermostat was $ 14.99 and the charged me $ 22.49. So in reality the %10 «special discount» brought the proposal closer to fair price. I guess the lesson here is do your homework before you take your car here for service

I can’t lie… I don’t know a thing about tires nor do I ever want to know anything about tires. I went here because the price was right for an oil change, they agreed to match a competitor and beat them by 5% on the tires I needed. I didn’t have a hand written quote and they matched it anyway, something I could tell they didn’t always do. I’m not 100% sure of the quality that I got so I am going to pretend it was the best of the best. I was slightly disappointed that when I left they hadn’t reset my oil change light… I found instructions on google before four of their employees figured it out…
