Ordered to go on 1÷20÷16. Ive had their enchiladas before(another location) and was always satisfied, but not today. Ordered the ‘LA Banderas Enchiladas’, which consisted of a carnita, chicken, and barbacoa enchilada. Sides were rice and beans. Everything tasted fine, except the carnitas enchilada. I tried cutting it with a fork and no luck. I thought they forgot to take out the bone, but it turned out to be burnt meat! Not a single piece, but the whole enchilada! No pun intended. ;) The pork was fine on top but totally burnt on the bottom. Was disappointed, because the rest of the meal was just good. This location needs to get on their A game!

It was a cold and stormy Dallas night as the rain pounded my Hyundai Santa Fe as my ex-wife and I pulled into the On the Border parking lot. The smell of burnt queso was pervasive and the atmosphere was poisoned by the presence of ill-behaved toddlers throwing chips in the air like confetti. I downed two margaritas and began insulting my ex-wife for ordering an empanada and attempting to speak to our tan-skinned waitress in Spanish. It was about this time that our desert arrived and we ate a chocolate covered strawberry platter. It was sublime. There was no parking for my tandem bike which I thought about riding, thus the one star review.

Friends and I came here last night for Mexican Independence Day & guzzled down tasty $ 2 margaritas! Our server was adamant about it being his day off and reminded us how he wasn’t supposed to be there! It was hardly busy but they must’ve been short staffed because it took forever for our food to come. Once you forget you ordered food you know it’s bad. The food was not satisfying. Black beans over cooked. The fajita chicken was okay but the bell peppers and onions were over cooked as well. Sighs. Our server was nice enough but really scatter brained! May or may not be back to this location. The best thing was this cat that obviously lives there. He chilled with us all night. Lol.

I’m raising my previous review because I’ve been back several times since my first review, and the food has always been excellent. They have also really improved customer service. The house made flour tortillas are served with real butter and they are phenomenal. I love to go on hot summer afternoons for a late solo lunch and then sit in the cool and read a book. The wait staff make Nederland right at home. I recommend it.

Positives: The dog-friendly patio was nice and breezy even on a warm summer day. There was plenty of parking as well. Prices are reasonable and happy hour deals were pretty good. Negatives: Service was slow, though we were not in a hurry, it still should not have taken 2 hours. Took forever to get the bill and pay. Two out of 5 orders also had come out incorrectly. A server spilled cheese for fajitas as they were being served, and then an extra side of cheese showed up on the bill. Waiter didn’t know if it was still happy hour and was aloof and seldom around in general. The food and drinks were ok in general. The chips and anything fried had somewhat of a bitter oily taste. Overall, I was hesitant to go to OTB when so many other quality options exist, but my friends wanted to chill on the patio so I complied. While the food and drinks were ok, the service pretty much ruined the experience.

I do enjoy eating here, the food isn’t very authentic like other Unilocalers have stated. Yet, it’s still good commercial tex-mex food. I use to love their pozole yet they do not serve it anymore. It is pretty difficult to find something fresh and light in this place. I tried the fajita bowl, it was pretty good and might have it again if I ever go back. The reason for the three stars, well more like the negative stars. First, after we ordered drinks we waited 15 minutes while the drinks just sat at the bar. I was so tempted to get them myself. Second, he got my order wrong which is okay it happens. So instead of the fajita bowl he give me actual fajitas in a skillet. I told him it wasn’t what I ordered but it was ok I would eat it cause I didn’t want to wait any longer yet he still took it back. I told him repeatably not to take it back!!! I honestly did not mind he messed up my order but it really bothered me that he didn’t listen when I told him it was ok. So I had to wait even longer now! Uggghhhh! When he brought the ticket, he told my in law he took the kids drinks off cause they where so well behaved. B. S! He felt obligated to give us a discount cause he fu&$ed up so much! thank you for the two dollars off! Smh

You get what you expect from a Mexican chain restaurant, however this location is quite nice compared to others in the sense that they’re located in the middle of Knox where most people walk around with giant shopping bags. The only thing I noticed on our visit here was the atrocious way some of the customers were treating the hostess on duty. Despite having been told that there would be a slight wait, the couple in front of us decided they were too good for that and went ahead and sat themselves at a table without consulting anyone and then complained to the waiter that they didn’t have menus.

Decent food for Tex Mex it’s the same franchise as Chilis and Olive Garden, so yeah kinda basic. But that isn’t the reason for my low rating, I based it on the service. We watched our drink order sit at the bar for what felt like 20 min, we order a chimichanga plate and a fajita bowl when the food came my order was right but my girl friend wasn’t they brought actual fajitas when we said it was wrong he was very apologetic and brought the salad in a bowl we just used the same chicken there was no point in waiting another 20 min. Now my brother bought us lunch and paid he ordered sopapias to go we left and totally forgot about them the waiter never brought them. So yeah looks like strike 3.

Changes at this place are rare. But that is good for me. I sit in the bar area where I seat myself and most all the bartenders are friendly and attentive. One star less due to getting rid of my peach margarita mix, and for the manager joining the extremely loud FIFA ruckus tonite. There is indoor cheering and OUTDOOR cheering. The food is pretty consistent. I mostly go to this location close to my job monthly after meetings but my home location in Plano is equally steadfast. I started going to OTB after discovering their fajitas and the server then squeezed fresh lemon on them immediately after serving them and I have been hooked with that, this place and their sopapillas with chocolate sauce every since. I try to share the love by getting brisket tacos or empanadas a few times.

As far as chain Mexican restaurants go, On the Border is one of my favorites. However, this is hands down the worst location I have had the misfortune of going to. On multiple occasions, this location has had my fiancée and I wait ten minutes or longer just for a drink order. Despite repeated complaints to the management, I am disappointed to say that this aspect has never improved with my visit tonight being the last straw. If I have one compliment, it’s that the staff running chips and salsa have always been on their game to the point where I have filled up on chips before a server finds the time to get around to taking my order. The food is as good as every other OtB location, but if you want it served to you in a timely manner, go to ANY of their other restaurants.

Watermelon Margarita and reverse happy hour. The beef empanafas are my fave followed by the mini chimis. Don’t forget the queso. This where my coworker and I come to de stress after late work nites. Don’t care too much for the food but they do have a lot of specials taco tuesday. $ 2 brunch mimosas…

Good watermelon margaritas! My only negative comment about this place was that the chips were totally stale and tasted really oily. I wasn’t there for the chips though!

On the Border(Knox) is my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. Unbeatable happy hour prices. Love their chips and salsa, amazing queso, and delicious margaritas! Plus, an extra shot of tequila is only 99¢!! I usually order chicken enchiladas or fajitas w rice and black beans, but you can’t go wrong. I go several times a week and sit at the bar. Love talking to the bartenders and other«regulars.» Food comes out fast and is always hot… Gotta love OTB!

So, if you’ve been alive for the past 15 years and eat Mexican food… You have to have tried on the border. It’s nothing new, the fact that it’s such a huge chain means every single location serves the exact same thing. So there’s not much I can say in my review that will offer a huge revelation. Having said all that, if you opt to eat here just know you’re opting to have a completely mediocre(at best) tex-mex meal. Nothing is outstanding, and the drinks are some of the worst ever. Basically, the only reason I ever come here is when someone who clearly doesn’t know me well gets me a gift card to OTB. Otherwise, this is Dallas… On every block you can turn 360 degrees and find at least 3 other Mexican restaurants. Do yourself a favor and try any of the others…

On the Border is my favorite Mexican chain. FAVORITE. FA. VO…RI…TE. I haven’t had a bad experience or anything that has swayed me to think otherwise. They have amazing happy hour food and drink specials and the food isn’t just«restaurant Mexican,» I think they do a great job of creating good tasting food. Great food and atmosphere at the Knox/Hend location, minus the gentleman sitting outside that almost spit on me :-/Not going to fault OTB for that though, lol…

Went here with my wife for national margarita day with some friends. We expected a long wait but 46 minutes after reservations was not the plan! The margaritas were decent the server great we had the chimichanga and it was awesome

Called a to-go order and spoke with Austin. He said it be 10 minutes, so I arrived 15 minutes later only to find out my order was not even placed in the computer. How hard is it to create a to-go order? Quite frustrating when you trying to get dinner for the family. As far as the food, the tortilla soup was warm and enchilada tasted mediocre. I guess I should of stayed with my usual and gone to Chuys down the street.

I used to come to this location with my trainer and we would have a couple beers at the bar. Sometimes we would order food and at other times just have chips. Regardless, the food was always good. We would always come for lunch on the weekdays and sit in the bar area. They have the standard beers on tap with a limited bar selection, but great drink prices and an even better happy hour. They have two different side patios for the different times of the day(ie. sunrise, sunset) which is so rare. They always have people on the patio because of this and to top it off… THEYAREDOGFRIENDLY. My one complaint would be that they have slower service than usual. Their waiters/waitresses are undertrained or just lack the«multi-task» gene.

Ever since OTB expanded Brunch to this location, I’ve been several times. Great options for kids and adults alike. I’ve tried the migas, as well as the best bloody Mary value I’ve seen ANYWHERE… see pic. Have some opportunities to attract folks that are walking by(sounds odd saying that in Dallas) opening up patio to make it more welcoming to those that may not know about the brunch! Corral them in already! Looking forward to new brunch renditions in the future.
