Molto Formaggio

This is my cheese-​loving husband’s home away from home. The folks who work here are highly knowledgeable about their products and are always sampling their newest arrivals. You can buy wines here that you can’t find elsewhere. Their monthly classes feature their cheeses, wines and products, and offer menu ideas appropriate for the season. We always leave with a goodie bag, new treats to try, and wonderful ideas for future meals.

I stopped in to get some advice on putting together a cheese board based on the wine I was serving. Willis, did a great job of helping me.

I must’ve done something very right in my life because I can’t imagine any other reason why I stumbled across this true gem among poor imitations. It was on a recent visit to Dallas, that I noticed a burgundy awning and the word formaggio. My curiosity got the best of me and I’m so pleased that it did.
The shop is charmingly cluttered, not in a claustrophobic way, but rather reminiscent of a family owned Parisian shop. It felt so natural to call out a greeting upon entering that I’m shocked that my friend didn’t say «Bön Jour» as we walked in.
The entire staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The gentleman with the facial hair, that assisted us, was wonderful. He gave us great samples and made wonderful wine and cheese suggestions. We had trouble deciding, but chose a few and headed back to our hotel to feast.
I cannot recommend this place enough.

The staff at Molto Formaggio are very friendly and helpful. They’re also very knowledgable and wiling to spend as much time as needed sharing their knowledge. Their cheeses are wonderful albeit quite expensive. I expected that when we went in prior to Christmas to make a purchase. We also requested recommendations for wine pairings. This is where I take exception and why I am assigning a two star rating. They recommended a Chilean red blend they were offering at a very «special» price, normally a $ 79 bottle of wine for $ 49. We tried it and purchased 4 bottles. I subsequently researched the wine and found it for a substantially lower price point than the special price at several places, no price higher than $ 32 per bottle for the same wine, same year. We also found some comparable cheeses at Whole Foods for substantially less money. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to Molto Formaggio. If your totally price agnostic and don’t mind being taken for a ride your experience will be fine.

The service was wonderful. The employees were helpful and knowledgeable about their product. Once they knew we were first time customers they took time to let us taste different cheeses. Thanks William for being so helpful and making our first time visit pleasant.

The selection of cheese, jams, and wines is surprising since the place is small. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The lemonade was refreshing.
If you aren’t sure about trying different cheeses this is a place to stop in and explore your pallet.

We happened upon this fantastic shop while in Dallas for the weekend… The cheese selection was suburb. My wife and I dined on a cheese plate, baguette, and red wine for the better part of a beautiful spring afternoon. Aside from the absence of French music in the background it had all the appeal of a quaint European gem.
The team at Molto gave great recommendations, and made us feel at home on their front patio.
Excellent choice if your looking for a light afternoon treat or a fine cheese/​wine combination for a special event.

An excellent place to procure cheese and wine. The selection offered of both products is well curated and the staff very knowledgeable.
The wine selection is primarily old world fine wines from small importers and some California cult wines. If you are a discriminating who looks at the endless SKUs of somewhere like Total Wine and find yourself board then I think you will be impressed with Molto Formaggio’s selection.
The cheeses were equally impressive for such a small shop. An incredible amount of variety for such a small shop. The staff knows them all quite well and are quite patient in helping you make a good decision.

I get excited coming here. Lots of great cheeses and cure meats. Just wished it was closer so I could go there twice a week.
Got some cured meats made of ibérico pork. It’s not a hype. Ibérico pork is truly an amazing product. Go try some and see for yourself.
Also got some awesome cheeses. Too many to wrote about but I enjoyed them all.
Will be back for more!!!

Molto Formaggio sells cheeses & wines, as well as things to pair with said cheeses and wines, such as: crackers, jams, olive oils, balsamic vinegars, chocolates, honey, salami, etc.
I, personally, have no attraction to these sorts of goods. The intricacies and nuances fly over my head. However, I know many people who love these things, thus Molto Formaggio is a great place for me to buy gifts.
They host a ‘wine and cheese class’ every month. In these ‘classes’, they discuss, pair and sample various products sold there. Giving ‘ideas’ for pairings and information about the products.

A friend had them cater a few trays for a wine party and OMG I was in LOVE with all the selections! Such HIGH QUALITY and delish! Loved the chocolates she purchased from them as well. This is my new go to spot for cheese/​chocolates and gift baskets. Worth the drive to Dallas

Very friendly staff and a beautiful smell of cheeses in the air– the prices are surprisingly fair for what you might expect in the Highland Park area.
The wines have nice selection of old world styles unlike most any store, and the liquor selection offers only top call brand and up of assorted spirits. Loved the price on the Lagavulin 16 and 1.75Ls of Maker’s Mark. Had to behave myself with spending, but I’m not likely to do so if I am back in the area.

Everything you could ever want as far as cheese, wine, and great customer service.

we happened in here by chance, we were going to pick up some really stinky alpine cheese (scharfe maxx) from the other local option when we found ourselves parked outside this place with time to kill before lunch (and a few cranky kids in tow)
the owner admitted that his customers had rejected the cheese we sought as «too strong». we laughed at the notion and they took that as a challenge. he quickly had his shop attendant dispatch several cheeses, all deliciously stink and pungent. we ended up buying three, one a big chunk.
they allowed our 8 yo son to work behind the counter, he sliced and weighed the cheese himself. then they served free jellybelly beans to all the kids and saved the day as the youngest had a minor meltdown in there.
made long term customers of us, at least when we are in dallas (from austin)

Fun little cheese shop that is happy to offer samples of their cheese. The employees were super friendly, and started offering me samples of random cheese even before I asked to try anything specific. Then I sampled a few others, and bought a couple of small pieces. I think i obviously looked like I had no idea what i was doing, wasnt about to spend big bucks on huge wheels of cheese, and really was just screwing around. But they didnt judge!
The place is over priced of course, but I think part of the price is the novel fun of going to a cheese shop. I think you’d have to be pretty nuts to go to a cheese shop in a swanky area and look for a bargain on fancy cheese.
The downside is that the selection seems limited compared to other cheese shops I’ve been to or even a nice grocery store. So maybe this place might be a let down for a serious, hardcore fromage enthusiast.

I would disagree with the other reviews of Molto Formaggio. This is an adorable little cheese shop in the Highland Park area of Dallas. I spent about a half hour talking to the two guys working here, sampling cheeses, talking about pairings and having a lovely time.
We sampled a beautiful black truffle gouda, the truffle tremor, a Delice de Bourgogne and others I cannot recall. Each cheese has an adorable little flag showing where it is from, and there is a great assortment of French, Italian, and American cheeses. Great wine selection in back, as well as accessories such as cheese boards, a variety of honeys, dried fruit and nuts. YUM.
While I did not buy any cheese, I was a bad girl and had a huge French macaron. Delicate, super chewy and not too sweet, it was bliss. My boss had their giant peanut butter cup, which I was completely envious of.
I did not find this shop to be formal or stuffy at all, which was really surprising as they are a few stores down from an Hermes and Harry Winston.
I really didn’t like Dallas very much until we got to Highland Park Village. Is there anything better in life than cheese, macarons and diamonds? No.

I have to admit that Christopher and Scott’s reviews say a lot about this shop. While they do have a nice selection of some good cheeses, the shop seems rather formal or stuffy — you cannot casually browse around. Some cheeses do not have prices; as well as other items for sale are hard to determine the cost. This can make customers very cautious when shopping around in a store offering good cheeses at a relatively high price point.
We like what I bought, however I don’t see a special trip to this store unless I am in /​near HPV.
As always, parking at HPV is a challenge.

Where do I begin?
I stopped in with my boyfriend and mother this past Saturday. The ambience was typical of a cheese shop, and the young man that helped us peruse their domestic cheeses was quite knowledgeable.
On a quest to turn my mother off with a stinker I found the Epoisses and with our luck they were already sampling it that afternoon. I grabbed the complimentary baguette and smothered the Epoisses on a couple, then promptly handed them off to the mom and boyfriend. My mom loved it. Not to attack her naivety, but my boyfriend and I were immediately turned off. The cheese was OVER RIPE something FIERCE. If you have a need to push your product or no, don’t serve over ripe Epoisses.
I probably wouldn’t have known any better if this wasn’t the single cheese I’ve had on every cheese platter on every restaurant menu I’ve made in the last two years. We then gave a shot to a Domestic firm cheese, the name of which I can’t recall. Strike TWO. Over ripe and a complete turn off.
We ended up opting for a favorite of both myself and the boyfriend– the Ossau Iraty, a creamy firm cheese, not bitter, that has a rich smooth finish. My mother was so pleased she asked if we should grab a baguette from the shoppe.
Why the hell not?
I’ll tell you why not. Our fault for not checking, but when we were halfway home and picking at the loaf, guess what we found? Mold! Fantastic! Just what EVERY consumer wants to find on their 15 minute-​old purchase from a highly priced, low quality cheese shop.
When all is said and done. I opt for Central Market. Better selection, better informed employees, and guaranteed fresh bread.
I will not EVER return to this shop. Waste of money, waste of gas driving out there, waste of my sweet –ass cheese-​lovin’ time.
One star for the kid who assisted us. I’d hire him in my restaurant.

Nice but rather sterile place. Some interesting and novel cheeses. But too little personality for my liking. It’s laid out like a photo shoot spread rather an a place where people have fun.
Interesingly it has a «best cheese shop in Dallas» sign pasted to its door. It might have been from D magazine, not sure why. I would prefer to go to Central Market, Whole Foods, Scardellos I have to admit.
I was served a nice taste of a Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and tasted a few cheeses — none memorable especially after the blue that I tried first.
That’s the second time that has happened — you get a wodge of potent blue and then are expected to pick up subtelties in subsequent tastes.
So I bought a variety of interesting cheeses which we will eat during the appetizer course. But I didn’t get the necessary vibe that will keep me returning.
Competent and adequate.

This place begs some future attention. The cheese selection looked vast and interesting, and my cheese sample was gorgeous. Staff seemed knowledgable and helpful with purchases, if snooty. None of the prices were displayed, and that always freaks me out.
Wines, beers, cold and not, prepackaged gourmet goodies like preserves, spreads, and pastas. Classes are offered.
