History

Established in 1976.

I have a BA and MA in Psychology. After I finished school, my desire for further training led me to the Pittsburgh Psychoanalytic Center’s Play Therapist training program. The year long, 150 hour program taught me skills in evaluating and treating children as well as an intimate understanding of developmental issues.

After I finished my MA in 1976, at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, I started working in a community mental health clinic there. In the 8 years I worked in the child and adolescent unit, later supervising the unit, I received incredible training in working with a wide variety

of family and child issues.

I have had a full practice in DeSoto for most of the last 20 years. Currently I see more adults than children, but still enjoy a number of child and adolescent cases.

Style of practice

I see counseling as collaboration between therapist and client. Counseling begins with assessing your individual needs. Counseling may include Cognitive Behavioral therapy to help you stop negative patterns in your thinking. We might work on skill building related to communication, stress, anger, or other issues. In between sessions we might decide that you need to conduct some experiments on changing specific behavior to see if it produces a helpful outcome. During your therapy I might suggest books to read, journaling, or other tools that will enable you to continue working outside of your session.
