Hue at Cityplace Apartments

This place has horrible maintenance. Reported a leak twice and all they did was paint over it. Now mold is growing.

I was considering this place as a potential new home. Seemed to be nice on the pictures. I also thought the location is pretty good… basically uptown, relatively easy to reach the major highways, and surprisingly affordable. However after talking to couple friends who used to live there I decided to scratch that option off the list. And looks like most of these reviews here only support my decision. Also the fact, that the possible murderer (Brenda Delgado… victims boyfriends jealous ex) of dr. Kendra Hatcher lives in this complex, does not make this property very appealing. The copy of the apartment search warrant is all over the Internet. It even shows the unit number. I understand the complex is not in control of that. Still… very unpleasant and creepy.

It’s loud. It’s dirty. The hallways are littered with beer cans and cigarette butts. It’s like Spring Break every weekend. And the gas station adjacent to the complex seems to be the epicenter of the drug trade in Dallas. It doesn’t feel safe.
The number the office gives out for the on-​site security is NOT a direct line. You have to leave a message, which won’t be returned till the office opens the next morning. You will rarely see the security on site, and if you do catch a glimpse it’s because they’re are on a smoke break out front.
My last maintenance request (bad light switch/​faulty wiring in the wall) took 4 days to respond to! I thought my apartment was going to burn down before they finally responded.

I am shocked at how negative the previous reviews have been for this place. I love it here! Rent is incredibly low for the location. Kroger, Target, and LA Fitness are within walking distance, and West Village is just across the highway. My work commute to Uptown is less than 10 minutes!
The dog park is adorable, and yes, people can be bad about picking up dog poop, but that’s a problem anywhere you go. I would never pay the rent amount required in a community with a 24 hour attendant hired just to pick up or monitor dog poop, which is the only way to completely solve the issue. The residents I’ve met at the dog park have all been very friendly. Overall, a very young crowd (20 – 35) lives here, which is common in the Uptown area. The apartments by Kroger seem to have a bit older (30 – 45) crowd if you want to pay more for it.
Parking is always available, which was a huge selling point for me. Where else can you live this close to downtown with guaranteed gated parking for your guests without having to pay for valet?
My electric bill is incredibly low, so my place must be energy efficient; cable and Internet for $ 80 is a steal; and there’s no gas bill for my fireplace!
My apartment is on the top floor, right on the highway, which is great because I leave my blinds open all of the time to beautiful sunset views of high rise buildings! Yes, there was an initial adjustment to the constant traffic noise, but I’ve actually come to appreciate the white noise and any time it wakes me up at night, I pop in some earplugs. …No worse than the sound of barking dogs in the suburbs.
The pool is pretty, the staff is friendly, and maintenance requests are handled quickly. I’ve had a window replaced, AC fixed, weatherstripping replaced, and door latches adjusted (settling is perfectly normal). Every one of these requests was handled in a reasonable amount of time.
I highly recommend this community for anyone looking for reasonable rent in a great location.

Pro’s:
–Affordable
–Location (close to Uptown — bars, restaurants, etc.)
–Pool is very nice looking and has hottub
–New game room is cool
–Dog park is large and has some jumps/​structures for them to play in
–Fast service on most maintenance calls
–Surprisingly little road noise despite proximity to 75 (I live in an interior apartment across the hall from those that actually face 75)
–Spacious parking garage
— lots of room in each space and I have never had to park on another level or anything inconvenient like that
Con’s:
–Looks nice when you just glance around, but a closer look shows the poor quality of the craftsmanship
— Not a single door frame fits it’s respective door. Front and back doors don’t close easily and are very difficult to lock, especially with a key
— Front and back doors allow air through when closed — cold in winter, hot in summer
— All door stops missing, causing doors to hit walls and damage drywall.
— Doors wont stay open
— Whoever painted this apartment probably did the entire thing in ½ of a day and did not care about actually painting all of the walls
–When a maintenance request was put in for the front door, they told us it could not be fixed, and that was that.
–Poorly set up HVAC keeps ½ of apartment way too cold and ½ way too hot
–Only one entry point to parking garage. This gate breaks frequently. Can be as long as 2 weeks before they repair it
–Only one of the external pedestrian gates can be used as an entrance. Incredibly frustrating to have to walk around the entire complex when there are more gates that could be used.
–Office staff, while friendly enough, has horrible communication with the residents on issues like the creation of reserved parking, the remodeling schedules (which they are always wrong about anyway when they do actually say something)
–Office hours are incredibly inconvenient for anyone working a 9 – 5 job with any kind of commute. If you get a package delivered on Monday, you may not be able to get to it until the weekend.
–Dog park is starting to get gross. It smells very bad — largely because of the fact that people aren’t picking up after their dogs. Definitely needs to be cleaned.
–Location is a negative as well. Being right next to a very seedy neighborhood means there are a lot of questionable people walking around (although the people watching at the corner gas station can be tremendous, depending on the day) This isn’t the fault of the apartment, but it’s probably why they’re so affordable, but it’s worth knowing before moving in here.
In summary, know what you’re getting into. You get what you pay for here.

The previous reviews are accurate. This is not a safe complex. I have been seen sketchy people almost every day that I’ve lived here. From people right next door at the gas station to break-​ins in the garage, there is ample evidence that management simply doesn’t care about tenants’ safety. They will probably leave same copied response to this review, and then do nothing about the issue. They’ll say the same stuff about how they have hired 3^rd party security and how crime is part of our world today. No, crime is actually going down elsewhere, and would be at hue if management did their job. They don’t even have cameras in the parking garage! How hard is it to install a camera system throughout the complex? It’s so cheap. Rather than having strapped security walking around not paying attention, it would be way more efficient for them to be centrally located in the complex monitoring cameras in addition to walking around, especially in a neighborhood like this. You have no good criminals just sitting right behind in the government housing just waiting to take advantage of the hardworking tenants, all because management doesn’t do their job. They simply don’t care. They figure they’ll lower the rent a tad bit, and let the next sucker worry about. But I can assure you that odds are you will have an incident in the year or so you sign up for living here. The middle aged lady who is the leasing office manager is very stubborn and rude. It’s hard to talk to her and explain anything because she’s is snippy, doesn’t know anything, and always ready to dismiss anything you say. Don’t make the mistake of living here!!!

I would NOT live here, it is unsafe! A girl recently was a victim of aggravated robbery and had her purse and car stolen. Since there were not any security cameras in the parking garage he got away. They have a security guy on site from about 11 pm to 5 am but that obviously hasn’t helped keep crime to a minimum. There’s a sketchy gas station right by it and also government housing directly behind the apartment complex… So there’s always sketchy people nearby. The office staff really needs to increase security or there will be other incidents.
