I’ve been shopping at Holley’s since I started knitting again a few years ago. The staff there was welcoming and helpful when I had no idea what I was doing and still are now that I come in with specific questions and looking for certain yarns.(They are the only store in the area that carries Lorna’s Laces Solemate, yarn designed for Texas weather!) There is a wide variety of yarns in this small shop but it is arranged logically so customers can browse with or without help from the friendly staff. There’s a table where you can join other knitters or rocking chairs if you want to knit in peace — or wait on your knitter to finish shopping. I recently emailed Holley’s, a few other yarn shops, and an online shop. Holley’s emailed me back the next day to tell me they had the knitting needles I was searching for. No one else ever responded. Great service, great yarns, great range of prices. Liberty Burger is next door. Do I hear ‘field trip’?

I was visiting Dallas from California, and I got stuck on a blanket that I am knitting. Susan was so incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. Not only did Susan solve the issue with my piece, she also gave me some great tips to avoid the problem in the future. Excellent selection of yarns and supplies. Super friendly and courteous staff. I highly recommend this shop.

I am pretty experienced knitter, so I went to Holley’s to find something specific and to browse. I was greeted as I entered and asked if I needed anything specific. I said no, knowing that I’d ask for help when I was ready. As I was meandering through the many cubbies of yarn, being drawn to various colors and textures, I was asked again at least three times if I needed any help. Still I said no, as I had more to touch and look at. Not surprisingly, I found lots of fun things in my browsing. The usual wools(more solids than variegateds), some cottons & linens, some blends, a few silks, and some really unusual items like mink and possum. I got help from one person to see if there was more of the yarn I wanted. I got help from another person finding the specific thing I sought. The staff offered to wind my yarn — no need. It’s not hard, and I need to wash the yarn. Note to new yarnies: you should wash yarn before knitting if using two different colors, but you shouldn’t wash yarn after it’s wound into a cake as drying is nearly impossible. The staff also gave me all sorts of information about the weekly in-store knits(S&B) on Wed eve and the email list.

The knitting place for beginners and experienced knitters alike. The knitting guild meets here every other month. They have bi-weekly yarn-sit-ins where you can get help from knitters more experienced than you. If you get stuck on a project, the workers at this shop are experienced knitters and are happy to help. When you buy a skein they spin it into a non-knotting ball(its helpful, trust me). Special orders are easy. Maybe because of our heat, Dallas knitters have too few local yarn shops(LYS) so, Holley’s is a great store and place to learn to knit too. Ever since The Woolie Ewe closed this is one of the last remaining LYS. HOLLEY’s carries a fine selection of designer yarn and brands not available at big box stores. The store is bright, clean and stocked and the employees are helpful and knowledgeable knitters.
If you’ve never shopped at an independent craft store versus big box stores you are missing out. This store carries high-quality yarns made of natural fibers instead of mostly acrylic yarn. Cotton, bamboo, and all the new blends are here to feel. Sock yarn, striped yarn, and all the notions and patterns you could hope for. Even if you like to buy online, there is something about touching your materials that is helpful. Plus, they have lots of sample projects to inspire you.

My friend started knitting recently and talked me into trying it. So I wandered into this yarn shop and they have been more than helpful! I go to knit at the shop because I get stuck pretty often(I’m working on my first project). The owner Susan, and the employees, are super friendly and helpful. Susan seems to be the most expert. They offer classes and lessons and I haven’t done that yet, but I have gotten a lot of help. I’m going to take the beginner class on a Saturday; there’s also a project class and a sock class, maybe others. Susan’s leadership really makes it a warm atmosphere. There are always at least several people there knitting and they are pretty friendly as well, the store is open late on Wednesdays. I can’t comment about the selection since I barely know what I’m doing.

I’ve been coming here off and on since it opened, but I’m not a regular. I often go in and don’t purchase, but have always been greeted and made to feel welcome. I’m not a great knitter, but I enjoy it. I recently needed help with yarn selection, and the lady who helped me was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I left with my purchase, a happy customer. They do have a good selection for the size of store they are, and I’d prefer to support a local store than buy online.

I LOVE this shoppe! I had a friend in town and we first went to another yarn shoppe in town and I was so embarrassed at the selection(because years ago when I first lived in DFW area it was my go-to). Unilocal pointed us to Holley’s so we gave it a go and I’m in love! :) The selection of different yarn choices is great and the staff is amazing, the women were all very sweet and very helpful!

I’ve been struggling with a certain knitting pattern for a few days, and was nervous to ask advice at a yarn store I’d never been to. Well, the ladies at Holley’s were so welcoming and friendly, I was immediately put at ease. Even though I hadn’t bought my yarn at this store, Susan, Louise and Mary were only too willing to help me decipher the pattern directions. The store is clean, well-stocked, and there’s a large communal knitting table for walk-ins like me. Even though I’m only in Dallas a short time, I plan to take some classes and investigate their new Spring yarns!

Although I am not great at knitting, I am working on a baby blanket for my second grandson. I had made the same pattern for both of my children and my first grandchild… so it now appears to be a tradition. I don’t knit often so am not very skilled. About a third of the way into this project I made a mistake and I feared that taking out several rows I would end up making it worse. I went to Holley’s Yarn Shoppe for help. A wonderfully patient woman, Susan, not only helped me fix it but made sure I was back on the right path before I left the store. Several ladies were there knitting and others were getting help with purchases. Thanks to Susan and Holley’s Yarn Shoppe — the family tradition goes on!

My wife and I have been looking for a LYS since The Sheep closed. I MUCH prefer to support local businesses even though ordering online is quicker and easier.(Plus I like to touch the yarns.) I had seen Holly’s on a recent trip to Liberty Burger and thought it was worth a shot. I knew that there was a yarn shop in the NoDal area that had been given poor reviews on Unilocal because of poor service so I was on the lookout for that shop(but couldn’t remember the shop’s name). We needed a set of circulars for a project so we decided to go in and have a look around. The ladies were more than helpful. There was a table of folks knitting away but the staff was busy helping customers. Since this was our first time in I was on the lookout for a ‘clique’ atmosphere. The selection of yarns was very strong. I don’t know how their selection of ‘exotic’ yarns stacks up, but the stuff that most people are going to use was plentiful. Lots of colors and a nice selection of weights. They had the needles I needed(size 11, 24″+ cord, metal – not the most exotic needles but not an everyday item) so I would say their supply of tools is good. So, then I get home and went online to look at the reviews and found out that Holly’s was the place I was wanting to avoid. Maybe we were there on a particularly good day. Maybe we got the friendly crew. Maybe the staff has had a change of attitude. Maybe the other reviewers were more sensitive. I don’t know. All I know is that we were treated very well and could not have been happier with our trip in. Unless something changes in future visits we have our new LYS.

Great little yarn shoppe. Not as big as some of the others, but I’ve always been welcomed warmly and treated as a valued customer. I’ve been there probably about a half dozen times, so I wouldn’t really call myself a regular, but they treat me as if I were one. Only thing I would like them to do differently is carry some indie or local yarns.

Hmmm… I’ve only been to Holley’s Yarn Shoppe once and I can say I walked away $ 50 lighter and not quite feeling the love I was hoping for. I sat with a friend and knitted for about an hour. My friend and I were very sweetly welcomed and showed around by the store’s worker-bees. It’s an okay store, not full to the brim of stuff like The Woolie Ewe or in an adorable location like Shabby Sheep, but very clean and there are two large tables to knit at, if you are so inclined. When the owner arrived, she seemed very interested in the folks who had been coming for awhile and very uninterested in any questions my friend and I had. Unwilling to wind yarn I had purchased at another store(yes, I know this isn’t usually done, but I bought this stuff in Canada and it’s not easy to do by yourself!), sort of snooty attitudes… meh, there are other spots in town I’m more loyal to.
