History

Established in 1938.

Dave Freed founded Freed’s Furniture on Deep Ellum in 1938. As his 4 children grew, one by one they joined him in his furniture business. The business moved north from Deep Ellum, to Greenville Ave. @ Northwest Highway, and then to Far North Dallas, on LBJ @ Midway Road. Howard Freed, Dave’s grandson and the son of Joe Freed, took over in 1991 after working for the family business for 13 years. Howard’s son, Clay Freed, joined the company after graduating college in 2005. In the fall of 2008, Freed’s opened a store in Arlington at Cooper and I-​20. Freed’s currently operates two retail showrooms and a distribution center in the Dallas-​Fort Worth Metroplex. Freed’s has 94 of the best employees in sales, delivery, accounting and customer. These people work hard to bring our customers the best quality products you can find anywhere. As a child I used to go to work with my dad, filing, sweeping, tagging and doing any other tasks I was capable of handling. Throughout high school I worked weekends and summers loading trucks, delivering furniture and even selling on the showroom floor when I was old enough. After graduating from college in 1978, I went to work full time in the family business. I took over operations and ownership of the business in 1991. During the past 20 years I have spent time not only going to furniture markets all over the world with our merchandise manager, hoping to bring the newest styles and designs to our customers, but also recruiting, hiring and traing some of the best employees in the Metroplex. These amazing individuals make Freed’s what it is today. I hope you enjoy your experience with us.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon with my boyfriend to look for a unicorn of a couch. We had specifics in mind and weren’t really willing to budge from what we wanted. Walking into Freed’s it seemed a bit hoitytoity, Terry, our saleswoman led us upstairs and followed us around a bit. At first, I have to admit I wish she hadn’t been as aggressive. She lingered quite a bit.
After waking around, we didn’t see what we wanted. We told her what we were looking for she led us downstairs and walked right over to exactly what we were looking for. It was even in our price range. We looked around after that to try to find an accent chair, but weren’t satisfied.
We sat down to do all the paperwork on the couch. I know this is a 21st century complaint, but after walking that huge store and sitting down to finalize the sale they didn’t even have bottled water. When I asked if they had water our sales woman offered a water fountain near the bathroom. It just doesn’t seem like a good practice. This place is huge and we walked and talked quite a bit. These days even clothing stores offer a bottle of water. I understand not giving out water while people browse because of the risk of spillage, but during a finalizing of sale? I think it’s courteous.
Our delivery date was set for the following weekend. I really liked the ability to track our delivery online. However, it wasn’t very accurate. Online it said we were first in line to be delivered to and the ETA was 7am within the 7a-​10a window. 7am came and went and at 9a we got an automated call that the delivery people would be here in 20 min. Finally they were here.
The guys were super friendly, however I found it completely unprofessional that they blatantly told my boyfriend and me that the reason they were late is because they stayed out late and partied the night before. I don’t know if they felt comfortable saying that because we’re not older and we live in the SMU area, but I didn’t appreciate it. However, they did make it within their time window slot.
I would recommend this place based on pricing and variety, but I would have given this place a better rating had the delivery people been more professional and Freed’s made an effort to provide some amenities to their customers.

The bf and I visited this store looking for entertainment centers for our new apartment. We could have easily gotten lost if there wasn’t a sales associate already waiting by the door to greet/​guide us. Cookie (forgive me if I misspelled) was lovely and very helpful without being pushy or overbearing. While we ultimately did not purchase any furniture, we definitely had a pleasant experience and would shop here again if we ever need more furniture.

Shopped many places looking for a very specific living room «look.» Found it finally at Freed’s. With 20% off, seemed like a great deal, even though I know furniture is a shady business anyway. Was going to take nearly a month to deliver. In the meantime, found the EXACT same set 2 weeks later at Nebraska Furniture Mart for $ 400 cheaper. Went back to Freed’s ready to cancel the order and they surprisingly, and without any hesitation, matched and refunded the difference in the sofa, loveseat, care package and delivery charges of Nebraska. Very impressed. Connie and Lee were great salespeople.

I bought a sectional sofa set from Clay English at the Freed’s Furniture Store in North Dallas on LBJ. We have been very happy with the quality of the furniture. Clay was very easy to work with and really helpful in getting everything delivered when we needed it. This purchase was about 18 months ago and the furniture is holding up good. I wish I had returned to Freed’s and Clay to purchase three bedrooms of furniture, instead I bought from Havertys Town East in Mesquite, Texas. Havertys was to have three bedrooms of furniture delivered today February 27,2015 between 10:00 AM and Noon. Received a call at 11:00 AM that delivery was 30 minutes away. At 2:00 PM I began calling to find where they were. Finally reached the Atlanta Customer Service and was told that all deliveries were cancelled and that March 6 would be the next delivery date. We had already emptied the rooms and disposed of the old furniture. I expressed my displeasure of not being contacted and explained that my three daughters as well as out of town guest coming in this week for a birthday would be sleeping on the floor. Will be checking with Ashley, Freed’s or Stacy Furniture to see in they can make earlier delivery. After $ 35,000.00 in purchases from the Havertys Town East Store in Mesquite, Texas one would think they could at least make their deliveries or communicate with the customer. I was promised call back by their customer service manager named Mary, needless to say that never happened. Save your time and frustration and don’t shop Havertys. To steal from a local auto dealers slogan «shop me first, shop me last, but go see Clay» English at Freed’s Furniture.

This place is a freaking mammoth maze of furniture. If nothing else, it was kinda fun just to get lost wandering around. I also like how they offer you help right away by asking a couple questions to get a feel for what you’re after, then set you loose in the right part of the store with guidance on where to go. No clingy/​pushy breathe-​down-​your-​neck salesmanship.
The rating is for the sheer variety of everything and helpfulness of the staff – it turns out they just didn’t carry the more contemporary style we happened to be looking for, but it still seemed like a great place to browse and get inspired. Furthermore, the guy who helped us, Clay, was honest about it and showed us what they did have that might suit our needs but since it was clear that this just wasn’t going to be the place, pointed us in the right direction of who in the area would. That’s genuinely helpful customer service and definitely inspires one to go back. And I would definitely ask for Clay.

When we purchased our furniture from Freeds in Arlington, we bought the warranty. The sales person said it covers everything from scratches to holes if your animals jump on the furniture. We THOUGHT this was a great deal. Here it is, 3 years later, our recliners mechanism broke, and we have holes in our sectional. They sent someone out August 10 to view our problems. They called us about a week later to tell us the mechanism on the recliner is covered but our sectional is not. We were told it would take 6 to 8 weeks (yes you heard that right, 6 to 8 weeks) for them to fix the mechanism on our recliner. My husband called today on 10÷13÷14 to find out WHEN they are going to fix our recliner. Well, they don’t have the mechanism in. I guess it’s coming on a slow boat from China. Their customer service is BELOW acceptable and so is making their customers happy. This is a warning to anyone buying their WARRANTY. they lied to us and they will lie to you. And if you need something fixed, well that might take 2 to 4 months. VERY DISSATISFIED WITH FREEDS. WILL NOT BUY FROM THEM EVER!!!

Had to furnish an entire apartment. My boyfriend had stopped by to look when he was in Dallas for two days to find an apartment. When we moved in we came back. Seymour was great. Not only did he help us find some great furniture for a great deal but he talked to us about the community. He guided on places to go and gave me job recommendations. We looked other places for our smaller missing pieces but ended up back at freeds because the furniture was the quality we wanted and the service was superb.

I knew it was too good to be true. My comments remain the same for Bob the sales associate, he is saving this from being a 1 star review. However, the updated review concerns their delivery process. I had my things scheduled for delivery on a Thursday, after calling several times on Thursday, the distribution center proved to be super unhelpful. Was told someone would call me on Friday, but I ended up calling them. Was told that the soonest they could have it delivered was Tuesday, despite having arranged for it to be delivered 4 days prior to that. They had no regard for their mistake in this matter, and acted like it was no big deal to having changed my date without notifying me. Some notice would have gone an extremely long way. Very disappointing experience.

I came to this store to checked out some furnitures. I was greeted at the front door by a nice lady. Most of the furnitures at this store is bulky and expensive. It is a nice and big furniture store but I didn’t see any I like or in my budget.

I went in looking for a sofa today. The selection is incredibly big and the prices are very reasonable. A salesperson greeted me and gave me his name, and then politely left me to browse. He was easy to find when I had a question, but did not hover or pressure me at all, and his colleagues left me alone. I will be back with my husband to make a purchase. They have created a very pleasant shopping experience at Freed’s!

I needed some new furniture and did some recon online. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by Alex and he was very professional. He was not pushy at all and showed me to the area of my interest. I picked out a leather couch, coffee table and end table that was absolutely perfect. Alex assisted in the transaction to completion and was genuine, sincere and professional. I am very pleased with my purchase and look forward to the pending delivery.

We went to several stores before Freed’s. Had never been in Freed’s before. The outside definitely doesn’t match the inside.
After hours of looking we settled on a sofa/​loveseat. We paid, set up delivery then left. They had been having a «Buy one piece, get the second ½ off». Seemed like an ok deal so we took it.
We get home and hop on their website to get a pic of what we had purchased to share with family and lo and behold we find the same sofa for $ 170 cheaper. That means the «great deal» we got really only saved us $ 100 and not the $ 450-​$ 500 they touted in store. The website shows a pic of the couch with the «internet price». No other comments.
I call the store the next day. Ask for the manager. I got the most double talking car salesman type I have ever dealt with. After 30 mins of round and round I basically was left with this: the price online is not their in store price. It’s only valid for people who click and buy. Ummm… whatever. I want the best price possible and taking the internet price and taking the loveseat for half, it turns out that I was overcharged. Significantly.
The manager basically said they won’t honor the internet price in store with their buy one get one half off special. However, NOWHERE on their website nor in the store checkout area was there any signage indicating that. Basically they did the old raise the price to give one away at half price. I saved $ 50/​per piece. Not a great deal. I didn’t love it that much so I called back and cancelled my order.
I am not going to argue with a manager over legality when he’s clearly shady. I will just take my business elsewhere.

I would like to first say that the customer service at the Dallas branch, by a man named Brian, (sorry can’t remember his last name) is top notch! My first visit to the store was almost 2 years ago, (and I have done business with him several times since then) he was and is a great person to do business with. I will be visiting him again soon. I’m in the middle of a major remodel, but I need some things to tie me over in the mean time. The furniture is pleasing to the eye, affordable, durable and comfortable. Howard F. Seemed like a great store. Was greeted as soon as I got in the shop by a friendly worker. Asked a couple of questions about what I was looking for and after getting pointed in the general area, I ran off like a fox. Hopping through the isles hoping to find something that caught my eye. I didn’t find anything I was actually looking for. They had mostly traditional stuff and those who know me realize that is not my cup of tea, but they did have some items that i liked which is saying alot.
As a few have stated, this place is HUGE. Keep looking and walking and lets hope you find something you need or can’t live without. I didn’t :(

We came in looking for furniture on Sunday. They don’t open until noon, so don’t rush over here early. We were greeted by Reggie, and he told us to look around. About 20 minutes later (the store is huge) he asked us if we had any questions. We knew exactly what we wanted — a combination sofa/​love seat of leather and wood. He knew what we wanted, but he only had one set to show us, which was too dark for our décor. We ended up finding a set we loved elsewhere, but we will be coming back to see Reggie when we are ready for our formal dining table. Reggie was super nice, and he knows that store like the back of his hand. If you are in need of a great shopping experience, ask for Reggie.

I absolutely loved this place!!! They always have sales but never managed to check it out. Now that we needed a new couch we decided to go on in. We found the one we wanted, switched it out the before picking it up and now were going back to the first one. You would think the salesperson would be sick of us but in fact she’s still in a great mood!!! Ellen Bell is amazing!!! She’s so sweet and is not pushy at all. She let us take all the throw pillows from different couches and put them on the one we chose! She absolutely fantastic and super helpful!!! Ellen you’re the best!!! ;)

They did not have contemporary furniture that we were looking for but the staff was real nice and had decent bedroom stuff but that’s all we would have bought even though we needed living and dining rooms too.

Low end quality (attractive) furniture but priced accordingly. Might be a good choice for someone starting out or not planning on keeping the furniture for years to come. I asked the sales consultant to direct me to French styled bedroom furniture. He answered «I don’t know styles but the bedroom furniture is this way».

When thethe hubster and I finally decided to tackle actually adding furniture to our home (I suppose sitting on the floor was going to get old eventually), we decided to stop by Freed’s. How could we resist the huge sign that said «FURNITURE SALE TODAY»? It was a sign (ha).
The place is HUGE. You can easily get lost and say «hey didn’t we pass that end table 10 minutes ago?» Most of the furniture is more along the «traditional American» style so yes, we do share a lot of «yeah, that’s something my mom would buy» moments. Their clearance center is where most of the more reasonable prices are located. We ended up buying a king-​size matteress from here. It’s funny how when you just want to wander, there are sales associates everywhere and when you actually need one (and you are in the clearance center) there isn’t one to be found! We didn’t have any issues with checking out or the delivery.
Since this purchase we’ve been back a few times. We’ve never felt like vultures are circling around us or pressured into making a decision. When we need a measuring tape, someone is happy to oblige. We have our eye on a dining table and aren’t in a rush to get it (the couch is serving as a fabulous sub). Seymour answered our questions and said «you know what? Don’t make your decision today… go home, think about it, call me on Monday and ask if there’s a better sale on it and we’ll talk.»
All in all, I’m sure we’ll visit there again. I don’t think it matters that the building is old or the carpet is shabby… that doesn’t matter if the product is there. It’s the customer job to do his/​her due diligence when it comes to making a purchase, especially when it comes to furniture!
