Family Karaoke

This place is amazing. Been here a few times after we found the place online. Didn’t expect to like it this much since it seemed to be in a very secluded area. We came on a very slow night the first time so we got to talk to the owner and get to know each other now everytime we come he remembers exactly who we are. The whole staff is amazing even on busy nights. Best karaōke bar I’ve ever been too. It never disappoints!

Adding another star from my last review. I went last night and it was a really great experience only because we got lucky and got a large room for the two of us at the price of a small room :) their listing has been updated and the new search engine is very efficient and quick! So that means more songs you can sing within an hour. No more flipping pages, and looking up numbers. Their pineapple soju was very good! $ 18, the rooms with the white couches gave us a better experience than the black ones. I think they should invest in changing all of the couches. Overall good place to go if you’re in the mood for dancing in the front of the bar (they have a dj) and karaoking your heart out.
Cons:
#1 different rates per day: they add $ 6-​$ 10 more on Fridays and the weekend. I was expecting it to be $ 23, I didn’t know it was going to be $ 29. For a large group I believe it’s $ 50 on Fridays and weekends ($ 40 on weekdays)
#2 They round up your total amount of payment: we ended up paying $ 32 instead of $ 31.39. Not that big of a deal but why not round down? ;) ;) haha!

A great place to hang out with friends and family, sing your heart out like no one’s watching. An awesome place to kick it with your friends after the enjoying the Dallas night life on Saturday nights. The most chilled place that opens late.

So my first impression was strange. It’s in kind of a shady or seedy part of town, so it seemed kinda creepy as it was very dark, and they keep your ID and credit card behind the counter. They let us in the rooms and taught us the karaōke system, and we started. It has a wide variety of songs, but not a lot from the past few years, so if you only listen to top 40, this isn’t the place for you, which isn’t really a problem, as those people aren’t the target audience. It had a massive song selection, but don’t be fooled, as more songs are in the system than listed in the song book as they have more updated songs in the system not in the book. The staff was helpful, and kept checking in with us, which was nice. Certain days a week, you can rent rooms for $ 23 an hour, which is significantly more reasonable than the weekends. You can rent three room sizes, so it is private, which is very nice. It is a good place, good for groups and parties, especially if you split the bill. On a different note, they have the nicest public bathrooms I have ever seen. Aside from the shady atmosphere in and around the buildings, it’s a GREAT, super fun, well-​run establishment, I plan to visit again.

The price is ridiculous and customer services is rude. I asked and they answered impatiently.

Rented a room there for a school organization event and loved it! Rooms were spacious and song lists were updated well enough for all ages to have something to sing. Will return soon!

Its an ok selection. Rooms were good and the drink specials are good too.

Family is one of the cleaner and less ratchet karaōke places in the Harry Hines area to visit. You all know what I mean by less ratchet — if you want ratchet, y’all know where to go and they’re open until 4 A. M, cough cough.
They have spacious rooms with really comfortable couches, somewhat up to date song selections (you won’t be getting any recent releases in the past few weeks in the repository — I’m still waiting on them to have Shawn Mendes Stiches on deck), and tamborines! All of these things equate to a recipe for a fun night of belting your heart out.
They have a bar in the main area where you can get your usual cocktails as well as Korean alcoholic beverages (yogurt soju, duh).
Around 2 A.M., staff will pop into each room with a sign stating, «last call» in case you want to booze up before capping off the evening. They’re open until 3 A.M. sans alcohol so that will be your last chance to get sloshed.

Its a different type of karaōke. All American songs but viedos are in Korean, so the song doesn’t match the videos pretty hil-​lar-​eus. They have a DJ in case you get tired of your room. But only thing I hate is the echo from the mics.
Parking is horrible just fyi an they do tow over there.

Really fun place! Came for a company night out Halloween and it was so much fun! DJ was playing in the lounge and we did karaōke in a very large and comfortable room. The bartender was great and the cocktail soju was soooo good. Yogurt or pineapple is the best here. I recommend this place to anyone out trying to have fun with friends.

This was a first for me, went with a group of about 8 – 10 friends this past Friday night and had such a blast. You have your own private room to sing in and not in from my of a huge crowd of people you don’t know. They also have some pretty good drinks, tried pineapple soju for the first time and it was pretty good, kinda like saki. I will be back. So much fun!

Excellent place to come with a group of friends! Especially when you already have a few drinks in you, which is more than likely the case if you come here after midnight! Comfortable, spacious couches in the room, with amazing sound system. If you’re not as brave singing in front bunch of strangers like me, and here with friends, the best way is to get a karaōke room. Otherwise, they do have the regular karaōke in the lobby.
Convenient with the service call button if you want to order food, drink, or need anything. The food is a lil pricey, but it’s go figures since it’s pretty much a bar place in some ways.
The song selection is always up to date and they add new songs weekly. It used to be our Tuesday night ritual a few years back when they were still offering half price night. Even tho they have stopped doing that, it’s still my preferred choice when it comes to karaōke spot out of all the places I could go in the area.

Went here for my sister’s 24^th, and had a blast! Albeit, I could’ve had one all by myself. Great song selection, beautiful privacy to drunkenly belt top 40s of whatever decade you prefer, and prompt service (Plus you get 2 mics for impromptu back up vocals) !
The staff didn’t offer much help on how to use the complex controls that are partially in an Asian language, but we were savvy enough to get the songs going. That last star might’ve come through had the staff offered anything by way of explanation, but alas. There may have been a bit of a language barrier contributing to that.
Overall, fun a$$ night, and I’ll be back with some rowdier friends to test the limits of their soundproofing.

Okay, soooo I took my mom here for her birthday after having some already great experiences. The night I had was something else. It was great… The singing, the rooms, the atmosphere. BUT… What really made them over the top though… Is when my party of 6 became any establishments WORST nightmare. One dude throwing up and another trying to fight everyone. They were real M.V.P’s. Jin and everyone on the team handled this catastrophe with flying colors. I was soooo embarassed, but they were champs. So everyone reading this… Should come, spend ALOT of money, and tip well!!!

This place is a great spot for a weekend outing with a 8+ size group of friends! I have been coming here since I was a freshmen in college. The crowd here is very diverse. Parking can be tough if you come after 10:00 but once you’re inside, it’s all good and prepare to sing your heart out!
You rent a private room for the night. It’s inexpensive the larger your group is because you can split it.

I used to go to this place all the time but haven’t been back in a while and went this past weekend. It seems like the place got more strict and everything is valet parking now. Many cars were getting towed they day. I still enjoyed the place but asking to hold my debit card and ID card while I sing was a little too much. They should of just hold my ID since I am not comfortable others holding my bank card. If you were scared your guest would not pay you may just want to charge our room before we go in and if we stay longer than usually then the servers could tell us to leave or ask us to charge more on our card since they were already coming in and out of our room. I still enjoy the place. It’s pretty cool they have a bar, music, & audience karaōke outside of the rooms. The food there is a reasonable price and tasted good.

I came here last night for a date it was a surprise i had no idea where we were going I enjoyed every minute of from the music, drinks, and the food! Friendly great people, the private rooms is a great idea! It was just my boyfriend and I singing karaōke all night great choices in music too! The room had about 13 seats great size! And the dance floor area outside the rooms is nice great for a big group outing! It’s a little hidden but easy to find!

Before coming here with five friends, I made arrangements online for 8pm. Unfortunately, there was a slight wait at the restaurant my group and I had dinner at, so I had to call Family Karaōke to see if I could push back the time to 8:30pm. They did so without any hassle and were kind enough to be in touch with me just in case dinner ran longer than usual.
Getting there, there was some security guy at the front who ID’ed us so I was a little confused because I thought it was a family place. But I understood why after going through the entrance and seeing the open bar.
Overall, the atmosphere is really nice. The small room was definitely big enough and comfortable to fit 6 with lots of leg space. There were two screens so you didn’t have to face just one TV. The song varieties were surprisingly great and working the machine was simple.
The only downside is that the food is kind of overpriced so I would suggest eating beforehand. My group and I originally planned to stay for an hour, but we stayed for almost 2 and a half because it was THAT fun, haha. For that time, we all split about $ 10 each. Not bad for 2 hours! Definitely plan on coming back for our next karaōke outing!

I’ve been wanting to go to Family Karaōke for years and last night my wish was finally granted.
They were totally dead, which was not too surprising as it was a Thursday night at 11pm. The employee straight up told us everyone working there would be just chilling in the back eating, so we would need to come get him if we wanted a drink because no one would be watching for the buzzer thing each room has. That’s fine, as I really think we were the only two people there.
On to the karaōke. The room had two big, squishy black couches and some chairs, a long coffee table, two tambourines, and the biggest remote control on earth. My friend and I both got our own microphones, which was very necessary for the mad dueting we would be getting up to.
Similar to a casino, there were no clocks or windows, so what was intended to be a one hour karaōke adventure accidentally turned into three hours, when they had to come tell us they were closing. This turned out to be craaazzzyy expensive, so keep an eye on the clock if you are a karaōke champ who can sing for hours. It would have been much more reasonably priced if we had a larger group, but what can you do? When the need to karaōke strikes, you’ve got to take care of it even if it is late on a school night.
Drinks were pricey, but generously poured. Don’t stick to the English karaōke song books, there’s a tooon more English music in the gigantic song book once you find the section. Allegedly, you can find even more songs by searching the system using the remote but we had little luck with that.
Super fun, loved it, can’t wait to go back with an alarm set to make sure I don’t accidentally spend a million dollars after getting sucked into a karaōke black hole again.

New owners really wrecked this place. It is a shame. All of the old songs are gone. The new system doesn’t work half of the time. The lyrics aren’t timed to the music. Some of the lyrics are wrong. When we were there, the whole system shut down because it is tied to a central wifi that went down.
The food isn’t good anymore, and priced higher than before.
The service is no longer helpful. When I voiced my complaints, no remedy was suggested.
Do not go. There are plenty of other Asian-​style karaōke places in the area. You will not have a good time at Family Karaōke. And it’s a shame because the previous owners did a great job.
